I've seen this done with matches, graphite pencil rods, and carbon fiber. The downside of these is they usually require manual ignition. Also, Pyrex seems to work fairly well for containment, especially for preventing the ball from burning through the roof of the oven.

At 2:58 the reason the glass didn't work and the plastic container did, is because the plastic container was on stilts so more oxygenated air could flow in and continue the process. If you do the same thing with a glass container on stilts, the glass won't melt as easily as plastic, and the reaction will continue until either it runs out of oxygen, or it explodes the glass in the microwave.

I suggest that you examine the spectrum of the glowing gas to determine if it actually is a plasma ( black body with elemental and molecular spectral lines ) or if it is simple combustion. I also suggest that you experiment if the glowing gas can be influenced by a magnetic field which would also confirm an actual plasma.
