The dip is a reference to a mix they'd use to dissolve the paint from animation cels, as it was fairly common practice to reuse your cel film. It's sad to think that cel animation is a thing of the past. Little bit of trivia for you.

I was listening to the commentary and they said that they actually toned this scene down from what it could've been. They were thinking about using a chipmunk or maybe having the other shoe watch in agony his/her mate's death. They also toned down the squeals to make it less hard to watch.

Turpentine, acetone and benzene are the main things in the DIP. All three of them are paint thinners and cartoons, well, you know, are sketches from pencils, outlined by pens or Sharpies, then painted for color. If you mixed the main paint thinners together, it turns into an acid. No effect on humans but as seen in the clip, the executed toon is dissolved into nothing but the paint from the toon.

I think they wanted to have a scene like this in the movie because they knew that kids were going to see it so they probably thought that adding this scene would get the kids to jump to the conclusion that Judge doom is the bad guy (which he is XD) I bet the kids are like..
