  • looking forward to seeing these guys at our county fair in July. Concert has free grand stand seating with admission to the fair. Can't wait to take my kids to see what real music is...was.

  • Get Up, get back on your feet. Forgiveness and Reconciliation are Forever as we engage in the Perserverance of the Saints, Behold the Lamb, you are a lamb amongst manyt lambs!

  • so excited get to see them in Tacoma Feb 3 2012 unless the world ends

  • I have a CD with this exact live recording on it... Styx: Yesterday & Today. Got me into this band, it did. :P

Well, it introduced me to more... I loved Renegade before I knew it was Styx. XD

  • Tommy Shaw and David Spade could be brothers.

  • A Masterclass !

  • Where's Dennis DeYoung? I mean, What happened?

  • @kja427

He was unceremoniously removed from the band in 1999. What happened was this: he was suffering a temporary issue that caused him to be sensitive to light, and wanted his bandmates to delay the tour until he felt better. They did not want to wait, and they were also reportedly not fond of his Broadway and concept-album styles of the past, which in the case of the 1983 album Kilroy Was Here and its subsequent tour, caused the group to break up temporarily.

  • @kja427

Both James Young and Tommy Shaw, as I said before, didn't exactly approve of DeYoung's concept-album styles and wanted to retain the group's hard-rockin' edge. After they drafted Scots-Canadian keyboardist Lawrence Gowan in DeYoung's place, DeYoung promptly sued the band for control of its name; however, when DeYoung performed a live concert in which the promoters billed him as "the voice of Styx," he was countersued by Shaw and Young.

  • I find it strange that the keyboardist has his back to the crowd

  • @simplygu Parce qu'il donne le rythme comme un chef d'orchestre (je pense...)

  • When did Chuck Panozzo start looking like Tony Horton? I swear he's the host of the P90X videos.

  • CHUCK. I LOVE Chuck! :D

  • I was at this concert and enjoyed it very much. Tommy and the band did a fine job, although I do miss Dennis DeYoung.

  • So cool that I can hop on youtube a go straight back to the 70's!! saw these guys in '77 this is one of my favorites, good music.

  • I am going to see Dennis DeYoung with his band in Phialdelphia next Fri!! Please please please tell me it is going t as good as seeing the original Styx band???

  • They Suck without De Young! Saw them 4 times without and Dennis 2 times and Dennis has a much better and accurate sound of Styx!

  • @mespasticpunk Yeah I'm not into these fake versions of old fart bands like this or Journey and Foreigner with fake singers. I'm going to go find an earlier version of this song with the guy who actually started this band.

  • I'm going to miss a Styx concert for a Nevershoutnever concert with my girlfriend... Things I do for love.

  • @SaysNapoleon bahahaha awww how sweet :P

  • This is my favorite song that was written by tommy shaw

  • @Freyja1133 It's really awesome. I remember when it came out as a single. And at the time I kept buggin' the DJs to play it, lol. One actually said I was the only person who requested it at the time. I'm not surprised since Styx though awesome was underrated back in the 70s in some areas, unfortunately. Such a great tune!

  • This almost beats Rock Sugar's CD Reimaginator. look it up

  • Actually pretty good video/audio quality for just 240p

  • lame

  • I photographed Styx in 77. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • Styx without DDY is not styx not even close.Dennis was the face the personality of the band, besides awesome vocals and one of the best keyboardists in r&r.

  • Styx Great memories of High School !

  • Too all you trolls who came out for this event. and you don't know the "replacement", Get yourself an "Edymicashon? Anyways, Larry Gowan was the best thing that ever happened to Styx. G'day!

  • They nailed the vocals, didn't they? Good stuff.

  • все клево, но жутко не хватает Денниса де Янга...

  • Styx was my first concert... I was about 12 years old. My Dad & stepmom took me, my brother (who was 11), & my sister (who was 5). We stayed in the same hotel as the guys, and got to meet Dennis & JY... I had a huge crush on Tommy back then (I'm 25 now), and was highly disappointed I didn't get to meet him, too. Nice guys.

And I have to say, although Dennis wasn't Styx, he was such a HUGE part of it that Styx just isnt the same for me anymore. I still listen to older Styx opposed to newer styx.

  • the seven people how dislike this song should die

  • This is good and I'm certainly not a Gowan hater, but it just doesn't even come close to the quality of the 1996 line up.

  • Look at this very interesting video. It is like The Da Vinci Code trailer video on YouTube --- Read all of the comments. It really becomes interesting after that. ---------- youtube.com/watch?v=tQEF_pAH6Xk YouTube search: "SBC Houston Blessed Blessing" and "Second 5 Locations"

  • Dennis Deyoung needs to show this before he starts his show. ha ha

  • c'mon everybody you're on tv! Everyones like WTF? Flickin joints and droppin lines.

  • Don't know who the guy playing keyboard is but he does an Excellent DDeY impression...

  • James Young is pretty much the only remaining original member of Styx with,of course, the occasional onstage jam with Chuck.

  • @Vatch1966 TECHNICALLY the only original member would be chuck, since JY started in the rival band..

  • @jdlm9

Because, actually, J. Y. was the last member to join Styx, in 1970, while it was still known as TW4. So that would mean that when Styx began performing under the name Tradewinds in 1961, only DeYoung (on vocals and accordion) and the Panozzos (Chuck on guitar and John on drums) were the original members. After Tom Nardini joined on guitar, Chuck switched to bass and Dennis switched from accordion to organ and piano.

  • @jdlm9

In 1965, the Tradewinds adopted a new name, TW4, after another group calling itself the Trade Winds (two words) gained national presence. Four years later, Tom Nardini left TW4 and was replaced by John "J. C." Curulewski, a college friend of DeYoung and the Panozzos.

    J. Y., as I said earlier, joined TW4 in 1970; two years later, at the suggestion of the group's first record company, Wooden Nickel, the name of the band was changed to Styx.

  • they're so amazing.

  • two bass players

  • @rickmarshall8655

The sheer amount of emotion contained in one single note, kissed by the slightest quiver of his pinky finger, teasing you like a bloom in spring, surpasses the erotic melody pulsing from his inner hand. I open my eyes and I see suffering. I see pain. I see hate. And I close my eyes, and hear beauty. her name is styx.

  • i miss the times were "live" means pro camera men on stage filming.. not some idiot in the crowd with a shitty camera jumpin up and down with a trillion drunk fans screaming their lungs out.

  • I've yet to see another band with as much raw talent as these guys... Though i do still wish they had their original lineup =/

  • Dennis was a PART of STYX and NOT STYX. I dont know why he thought he was BIGGER than the actual band. His stuff is quality, but who knows ANY of it? STYX has kept touring and selling cds & tickets. They are a GREAT AMERICAN BAND. A related issue: Neil Schon seemed to think that front guys were not MUSICIANS and he has killed the legendary JOURNEY band 3 times over this. The 3rd was the Bad English (NEW Journey) project that Schon started with Jon Waite and was called Jon Waites band.Egos are crap.

  • Without Dennis DeYoung, this ' band' is worthless!

  • @Quad8track Dennis and his coverband are shit compared to theese guys, althought glen burtnick is a left handed dumbass, glad they got rid of him too.

  • Sorry, I've been a Styx fan since 75' and I just can't accept any other lineup than the original as STYX...Just doesn't do it for me. I saw Styx on their Grand Illusion tour and man, let me tell you...this lineup is not even close.

  • Saw STYX play live about 2 years ago and I seriously don't think I blinked once during the show. Didn't want to miss even a split second of the awesomeness!

  • Simmer down, now!!

  • Have seen Styx 2 times and they were as good then as they were back in the 70's. Great band and still knows how to rock. If you get the chance, see them you will have a great time.

  • top upload - your video was the best! you are star.

  • good cover band

  • I love that Tommy is playing a 12-string in this version instead of the usual standard 6-string acoustic. Song was written by Tommy for Dennis although years later Tommy saw himself in the lyrics.

  • 5 people are angry young men

  • @lewismike22 styx was my first concert too!

  • Styx doesn't exist anymore, there's simply a cover band touring with their name that happens to have one of their founding members tour them from time to time.

  • @CharlesNigro

Not totally true... do your research. Like most classic rock bands members come and go for various reasons. The present line-up have been together longer than most bands. I saw them last month in F.Worth and will see them this month in Corpus Christi. Fantastic sound and tried and true classic rock.

  • hate the hair cut tommy, i am telling todd

  • David Spade ROCKS...lol..

  • I was born in the same neighborhood they're from. My uncle remembers them playing high school dances. He's the one that turned me on to the group. The song EARLS OF ROSELAND is from Roseland on the south side of Chicago. I would give anything to meet one or all of them since my uncle is gone now and well, you can figure the rest. Thanks you guys for the awesome music and the memories of my uncle.

  • I saw Styx a few nights ago in Houston. They were GREAT.... They really know how to put on a good show.

  • I saw ``styx`` a year or two ago. and it sucked cus there was only like one of the orginal members :( im twelve and the only kinda music i listen to is good ole rock n roll !

  • @reelrocker1 Wrong there sonny! 3 of the members are from the classic line up, when chucky joins them! 2 former members have passed on (rip) and the only guy really missing is Dennis but Gowan is pretty damn amazing!

  • @reelrocker1 Don't be such an Angry Young Man... :)

  • @reelrocker1 From The looks of your channel u need 2 lern how 2 make yur bed, then get on da computer and make foolish comments about things u don't have a clue about!!!!!!! Now go 2 yur room!!!!:{

  • I forgot about this song I love it.

  • Though its hard to deny Dennis DeYoung's voice I always loved Tommy's a bit more. And what an amazing song.

  • Don't think there is any creativity today in the US...no one laughs anymore. Styx represents one of the last gasp. Hollywood wants the big money common low denominator.

  • Sound =good but diff to watch without Dennis-weird actually. Styx got me thru high school in the early 80's. Had a girlfriend who loved styx would play songs on guitar-Great times...

  • Does anyone know who's playing drums on this?

  • @toastandjam1967 that is todd sucherman, winner of modern drummer "drummer of the year" (or one of those magazines- i forget.) he's a monster!

  • @stmonkeys .... dammit, i THOUGHT that was him, but i didn't wanna look dumb! haha... Thanks for responding!

  • @stmonkeys that my boy tommy love him!!!

  • @stmonkeys Ishook tommy's hand in indy in 09 and they played boat on the river at my request awesome guys!

  • anybody like rare earth?

  • @toastandjam1967 Todd Sucherman... IF you're into drums, get yourself the DVD's....TOdd Sucherman Methods and Mechanics..... I just got part II about a week ago.......awesome! Also have Styx with Cleveland Youth Orchestra dvd from 2006 i think....AWESOME!!!

  • To be honest I prefer prog that has gone to far, but nobody does what Styx does better than they do. They love music and it totally shows. Glad they're still touring.

  • I am going to be seeing them live in Bangor Maine on Nov 2ed

  • Tommy Shaw, James Young, Lawrence Gowan. The best combo that rock music has ever seen! Unbelievable how great these guys work together. You might as well call them a super-group!

  • I beleive people are hurting me mentaly, by tellin me I dont remember things , I am sure are true......

  • styx the false prophet band them fucking liars deep Inside We are NOT all the same some people are cop calling mother fuckers that are of the Illuminati spirit. & peavey can shove their $2000.00 mixer up their ass. I use ART & Digitech & Behringer & Danelectro & Linux & soon Someone will make a Marshall JCM 2000 simulator other than Digitech $300.00 pedal for less Linux ArtistX 0.9 has a Guitar processor for less than $15.00 that Include postage 3.3 GB Is just too big to download still

  • @ortafunk What the hell are you talking about?

  • @beroth1 He is mad because somebody stepped on his tinfoil hat.

  • Can someone say what guitar Tommy has?

  • @SeattleLA Taylor 12 String

  • @baillieflynn10 Oh, no wonder, Taylor is so good.

  • I need another diaper

  • rockin in America!!!

  • @TheKIddrockz is that u kid.....rockin??rocken??

  • @TheKIddrockz am i foolin myself??

  • Relax, take it easy. Can anyone find an older version, let's say from Chicago Stadium ''78-'79? I saw them then. Now they R still touring after all these yrs.

  • STYX

  • Why can't people give it a rest..I've seen Styx with DDY and with Gowan. Were they different shows? Sure! Was the quality of the shows different? Absolutely not! DDY and Styx have chosen different musical paths. Give each their due and enjoy the fruits of each of their efforts.

  • @cfs1979 You have the best view of anyone about the matter.

  • @cfs1979 DDY and Styx have chosen different musical paths. Ur right! They're both great, in different ways!!

  • Styx & Journey - great bands but missing something.....someone......hmmm

  • One of my favorite Styx songs ! This song never fails to put me in a good mood ! Thanks for posting !

  • sorry i am fan since 1979 and the sound is very diferent sorry, tha past was so much good

  • @joe630426 you don't thank Tommy sounds just as good theses days as he did back then? I have been a fan seen then also and I think he sounds better as he got older

  • @veronica16841 Hi Vero, yes you maybe rigth, Tommy is a very good singer and writer , but i talk abaut the group , I miss to Dennis . But i love styx forever.

  • Lame.. Styx, REO, Journey, etc. are running on empty.

  • @acrovader Reo, Styx and Journey running on empty are you fooling yourself?

  • I( saw styx about `1 month ago w/ Kansas @ Forigener. It was the highlite of my last 5 or so years as a concert goer.I highly(AND I MEAN THAT) Reccomend this evening to anyonelike me mid40s with the fisher record player or 8 track in their room .FM fucking radio!!!!!!

  • I love these guys...South side rules!!! (okay Tommy...we like you too :-)

  • can someone please cover the intro to this on bagpipes or something? it really sounds like it should be a bagpipe song, and surprisingly there are no bagpipe covers of it on here.

  • @xBASSBOOMx that is becausce the song was not wrote for bagpipe

  • @veronica16841 none of the other songs people have covered were written for bagpipes, im just saying it sounds like a bagpipe kind of intro.

  • WOOT! Styx is back on tour!

  • @Ksvitak12 Just saw them, it was fantastic! Foreigner was right on par with them though! I've got a bunch of videos from the concert!

  • Lawrence sounds pretty good on keyboards to me. I think not enough not enough people in the U.S. have heard Gowan's albums from the 80's and early 90's. Check them out and you'll find out putting Lawrence Gowan in Styx was comparable to putting Sammy Hagar in Van Halen.

  • @TheKevinRogers I think sammy hagar brought major change for the better in van halen personally..!

  • Man, that takes me back. Thanks for posting.

  • Could they play this Slower?

  • First 8-Track i ever owned .It was a AM 8-Track out of a 67 Mercury Cougar stuffed into the dash of my 73 Ford L.T.D. Hahahahah..love this album, every track. YIKES did I date my sellf?

  • one of my favorite songs!

  • Ultimate HAPPY song! In a bad mood? Life got you down? Listen to this and everything will be aaaaaallllll right :)

  • JUST A GREAT BAND!!!

  • Tommy Shaw is a great talent!

  • Why are'nt these guys in the rock&roll hall of fame yet ?

  • @MrSmokeydog Because the people who make those decisions have their heads so far up the corporations ass, that they will not give a band who makes music for the mind even a few moments of contemplation.

  • @ 56Veggie, JY is just happy he doesn't have to work with Dennis DeYoung anymore

  • I hear so much ELP and Yes in this band. Great stuff.

  • 56 veggie, killer pot makes you smile that much!

  • grub! do not compare Styx with Rush!

  • Is James Young ever NOT smiling? Unusual for anyone in rock to smile that much. He's one happy dude.

  • @56Veggie I think J.Y.,Adrian Belew, and Dweezil Zappa are the only ones I've ever seen who always smile. Kinda makes ya wonder what they're p to, doesn't it???

  • Tommy NOT an original member , he came on board just prior to the recording of " The Grand Illusion " ...

    ( Tommy replaced John Curulewski ... )

  • @Ron112762 Technically half true: Tommy Shaw came on in 1976 and recorded Crystal Ball. Since then, Tommy has recorded what, four Styx albums for every one Curulewski was on? So he remains the second-longest-lasting Stygian in the band. Chuck Pannozzo is referred to as the "Bassist Emeritus," as he doesn't really play whole shows with the band any more- just the occasional very simple oldie.

  • Wow-I didn't know Tommy started a Styx cover band?

  • That's hilarious. Tommy, Chuck, and James are all original. The drummer died.

So seriously, only Dennis is missing. As fantastic as Dennis was as a singer and songwriter, he's not here because he was an egomaniac and the rest of the band hated being a band when he was around.

The band is still playing shows and cutting albums, which they would not have been doing otherwise. If Dennis had won, it would be Dennis and four totally new guys.

THAT would have been a cover band.

  • @toddsher2112 Actually, Dennis has been doing precisely that for several years now, billing as "Dennis DeYoung plays the Music of Styx." In these shows, he plays all the tripe that nearly bankrupted the band in the 80s: The Cornerstone crap, Kill-me was here... the stuff that wasn't good enough for Styx to play anyhow. And he plays it to audiences numbering in the dozens. Wooo-hoo! Go, Dennis.

  • my band is doing a cover of this, we have a horn section and stuff too. im hoping to get some videos of us soon!

    STYX rule!!!

  • it sounds futuristic irish its like rush but happier

  • 1977!

  • one thing that is so apparent here and didn't happen when Dennis was frontman, is that all the band mambers are having a blast. They look happy! Dennis DeYoung, although he has an amazing voice, hurt the band with his super-sized ego...don't kill me...it's just my opinion, and a huge Gowan fan!

  • @arwen54 ... I was a big fan of Gowan's when he had his solo career here in Canada, and when I heard he replaced Dennis, I thought it was the MOST PERFECT choice! Amazing singer, keyboardist, and MIUCH better stage presence than Dennis ever had!

  • @arwen54 AT least DDY face the arena unlike this guy!

  • @tubednhooked It's a keyboard heavy song. I think he wanted the crowd to see his fingerwork.

  • @arwen54 i know i love styx but i hate dennis

  • @arwen54 For sure! It's because Tommy is awesome. I met him once when he came through my shop, it was right before a show. He was the most down to earth rock start that I've ever met. We talked for about an hour and he showed me an awesome movie that he made in final-cut using only stills from a 35mm DSLR. He's an extremely creative man. Still makes me smile just thinking about that day. Go Tommy!

  • @AndersonWigwam cool that you got to meet Tommy! I'm not surpised that he was/is so down to earth. He seems that way. :)

  • I grew up listening to Styx. Their songs take me back to those days. Their old stuff is amazing.

  • Ricki .......your as dumb as a bag of fuckin hammers....

  • ahhh fuck you ricki!

  • Suck it Haters.....This is a mere fraction of the great band that Styx WAS...Gowan couldnt hold DDY'sPiss in is pocket..and tommy looks like hes gone back to the good ole days of drinking and drugs..good to see Chuck back on stage, hes the only class in this video

  • Comment removed

  • they're amazing. music will never be as good as they're era.

  • @JMcMac21 music will be this good again. its just not right now

  • @provorenegade hopefully you're right..i just don't see it.

  • that song gives my woofer a workout, love it!

  • Comment removed

  • how many songs have you heard, cause those are prob my least favorite songs they ever made.

  • I gave them a solid chance, listened to a whole greatest hits CD at some point, but I stand by my earlier statement... Meh.

  • You are apparently to young to appreciate the awsome style they introduced to R-n-R. The critics said they would never make it but yet they lit up the stage and the hearts of millions of us 70's kids. Crystal Ball is one of the greatest albums still to this day. Go and enzoy your Rap or whatever. Careful not to critisize that which you do not understand!

  • Actually all of the music I listen to comes from the 60s-90s. I barely accept anything made past 2000 as artistically significant and don't consider rap to be music at all. Styx is just one of those bands that have never hooked me in any way. I'm turned away by their thick reliance on synth and their overly happy style. You don't have to be born in the 70s to appreciate music from that era. Your insults are misdirected.

  • good thing your not trying to push your opinions on too anyone else. I really like this comment actually, thanks. even if I do disagree, there is no way this can start an arguement, unlike most things on youtube. :D but that smiley makes me seem like a

  • You're gay

  • im 14, wtf are u , theres no such thing as too young to appreciate music. Some people are just ignorant. and then other people are like, hahaha im 10 and i like the beatles as if to impress someone but that pisses me off. but I do agree except for the first 10 words. : ) :D

  • Why isn't Dennis with the band any longer? I thought he got them back together. The guitars sound great but I liked Dennis better on keys and vocals.

  • Just peeped a video from their 1996 tour, WITH Dennis DeYoung. Even then, after "re-uniting" with the band, Dennis's facial expressions and body language reflect sheer contempt and disgust with the other band members. Scowling at your mates, rolling your eyes, and shaking your head while they have the spotlight isn't only unprofessional, it's damn ill-advised, as the current state of Dennis's checkbook will no doubt attest.

  • this song is so fuckin sweet, that synth is incredible!!!!

  • I searched this one out as I missed them just the other day in concert and friends said this one was incredible.

  • Man this song brings me way back! I

was in high school when this record

    came out.
