My late Aunty Dorothy worked for the old Woolies in Yeovil in the late 1920's and 1930's this store was badly damaged during an air raid in 1940. My late sister worked in the store in the 1980's and I worked there in the 1990's. I remember all the Easter Eggs coming in to the store room before Xmas!
A terrible shame that such a once great store was reduced in December 2008 to having empty shelves and a general feeling of disarray. My sympathy to all the staff and that Woolworths never made it to it's 100th year here. I'll really miss having this store around to get just about anything. I never realised that Woolworth's was originally founded in 1878 in the USA, having always assumed it was totally British. So goodbye to 'Woolies', with thanks.
Although posted on 23 December 2008, was this actually filmed that day? The escalator to the first floor looks blocked off. Wast the upstairs actully closed, and only the ground floor open the day this film was made? My final ever visit to the Yeovil Woolworths store was on Friday 5 December. The upstairs was still open then, I went up the escalator and had my lunch at the cafe that day. It was busy that day, and one whole ground floor gondola was already almost bare.

I do hope the staff can find a better job in a better town, it's the least they deserve after the indignity of working in Yeovil!
I live in Yeovil and trust me it's the worst dump in the U.K! As soon as I can find somewhere to live in another town I will never see Yoevil again!

Was there ever a more ironic song to be playing on the sound system?

Especially the "it's only just begun" bit.
