  • And above all, don't piss off the poor little house sound guy.

One, he doesn't get paid enough to be there AND put up with your shit.

And two, he has control of how you sound to your audience.

So if you want any chance of a decent sound, just STFU, set your shit up quickly, be clear with what you need ("I need to go up!" What? Where? Vocal? Guitar? Foldback? FoH?) and get your shit off the stage when you're done. That means, don't fucking pack the drum kit up on stage unless you're the last.

  • And yes, your guitar is too loud. "I can't hear my vocals in the monitors!" Yeah, thats because you and your mate next to you are pushing more SPL out those little amps (in a 15deg cone infront of the stage) than my FoH.

Funny that when I mix musicians that have formal training (or been playing live for at least 20-30years), I never have these issues? They know how to balance their own stage sound.

    Add mids into keys? Dude...

  • Fucking musos.

Yes most in house guys are like this. They are learning, and 8 times out of 10 self taught.

But as a freelance engineer sometimes standing in for these guys, I get the exact same shit (minus using your own mics, feel free. I don't want your coldsores all over my mics, and if the mic is shit thats your problem.) and I defeat them all with experience and knowledge.

  • I have met this "engineer" so many times, and in so many different gigs, that I reckon he's been cloned

  • I have dealt with this many times.....I am a guitarist and a sound engineer......Funny, I will put the drums so loud that we won't be able to hear anything else!!!

  • Oh yeah and if the system EQ was a "smily face", wouldn't 1K - being in the centre of the graphic, already be pulled all the way out? LOL

  • Oh yeah, and if the EQ was a "smily face", 1K being in the centre of any graphic EQ, it would already be pulled out... Lol

  • Hey this is one of the funniest things out! As a touring engineer, we (as in myself and the band) deal with this all the time. The typical Inhouse guy who just doesn't give a shit. There not all like that - but I have definitely met my share. U recon it's hard to convince them to use ur own mic - try touring with ur own console! "yes I want to run my own core and patch my desk into yours-may I patch my outputs into your mixer? I'll need 6 Chanel's" yeah it's a mission-every single time!

  • What actual venue inspired this ? - i reckon it must be one actual person!

  • So True!

  • this is a load of bollocks.... im a sound engineer and we are not like this at all, a guitarist dont know all that shit hes chatting...

  • @93Treebeard You haven't been around enough. I've dealt with these snobs. Also, the funniest part here is the "unspoken-spoken".

  • @str8truthup aint been around... what you chatting? yeah i agree there are some dickish engineers out there ive met them! but thats only a hand full of em and most of the time there dicks cause they aint got weed, trust.

  • Classic!

  • God damn guitarists, always think they know best!

  • both of them are literally spot on haha, as a sound engineer myself i'd like to think im not THAT annoying

  • aaaaahhhh - been there! Top Vid!

  • This is fucking exactly what soundmen are like! Whoever made this vid has clearly played every venue I've played in. 4:02 is pure genius, the bastards have more ego than any guitar player on the planet. Another classic is hanging an sm57 over the cab facing the floor, we've started bringing our own guy to gigs to do sound
