I think this is the biggest way of telling people that Derek is the best teacher and pro on the show.. I mean, they practically handed Maks his chance of winning for the first time by giving him an athlete. Athlete tend to do well on the show. Now I'm not saying that they are not doing well.. They just aren't doing good as these two! That's just another way of showing people that Derek can get a piece of wood, train it to dance, make it look good, make it to the top of the leader board AND win!

I think that more than any pro, Derek gets the most from his partner. I think he focuses a lot on trust and the basics when they start rehearsing.
