Istanbul- Konstantinopolis- Konstantinople - Konstantinie are all greeks names given to the City.. So it is not of great importance how we may call her. Her name will always be Greek, her role will be always this of the center of Orthodoxy. Keep in mind that Hagia Sofia ( or Ἀγία Σοφία ) is a Greek name meaning Holy Wisdom. Ἀγία Σοφία is also an Orthodox Saint.

ive been there. before i went i was of the opinion that it should be an orthodox church again. after seeing it in person though, i am glad it's a museum. it gives everyone on earth a chance to appreciate the byzantine and islamic art that have made the building what it is today: not a church, not a mosque, but a treasure of humanity.

Konstantinoupoli always was and always will be THE ORTHODOKS CHURCH and no turk will change it !!! It`s Very easy to make a mosque from the best orthodox church in the world, especially if you don`t have your own history and your own architecture. But it does not change the essence - it is still Greek Orthodox Church.

The Ottoman Empires totalitarian rule over the Greeks, which led to the later conversion of the Greeks through coercion, can be hardly used as a means to reclassifying Hagia Sofia as a Mosque, rather than a Church.

ive been there. before i went i was of the opinion that it should be an orthodox church again. after seeing it in person though, i am glad it's a museum. it gives everyone on earth a chance to appreciate the byzantine and islamic art that have made the building what it is today: not a church, not a mosque, but a treasure of humanity.

Η ανατολική χριστιανική εκκλησία σε αντίθεση με τη δυτική δε χρησιμοποιεί μουσικά όργανα παρά μόνο ανθρώπινες φωνές. Κι αυτό γιατί ακολουθεί τη διδαχή του Μεγάλου Βασιλείου που λέει πώς το καταλληλότερο μουσικό όργανο για να υμνήσει το Θεό είναι ο ανθρώπινος λάρυγγας...αφήνοντας έξω όλα εκείνα τα βιβλικά τύπου αινείτε αυτόν εν τυμπάνω και χορώ , εν ψαλτηρίω και κιθάρα, εν κυμβάλοις ευήχοις κλπ κλπ. This is the most beautiful hymn and the most wonderful, fabulous chanter I have ever heard - I am Greek, sang in the church choir all during my Greek school years, and have heard such beautiful Greek Byzantine chants - but, this Psalti is magnificent - I have emailed the clip to several of my New Age friends who play it as it takes them to another spiritual plateau.
