That rule about not advancing a fumble was one of the worst ever IMO, when did they finally change that? About the only one worse would be the rule about taking back a touchdown cause of excessive celebrating now.
By the way, were they still doing some games on tape delay at this point or was this shown live?
@ajk Not until the early to mid-90's could you advance a fumble but I'm not sure of the exact year.
I was 3 when this game was played but I'm almost positive this was shown live. Tape delay games were shown in 1980. Lane and Brandstatter did all non-ABC games in 1982 and 83. They were a part of some local network that only broadcast to southeast Michigan, I believe. Someone who is older and can remember will have to correct me if I'm wrong.
I should point out that after reading "Thee and Out" my perception of RichRod has changed considerably. HIs defense was definitely an issue during his tenure, but with everything else that was going on behind the scenes at Michigan I can understand why he failed. Hopefully with Hoke those factions have consolidated and the cracks that formed during RichRod's time have been repaired, because no one could possibly succeed in the enviroment RichRod coached in during his 3 years at Michigan.
I was born exactly 2 month later in December. Love the classic games WH. I'm so enamored with the richness of Michigan's great tradition. No other program can claim a history like Michigan's. No program can say that their tradition is based first and formost on winning since the program has been doing it since its inception.
The RichRod years were tough, but we've endured and the future looks bright as Michigan appears to have returned to form.
It's funny their really wasn't any big names at all on this team but they could still go out and beat a team 42-0.

@WolverineHistorian It was 1990, WH. BTW, the NCAA enacted this rule after Roy "Wrong Way" Riegels' infamous run in the 1929 Rose Bowl.
So, this wasn't televised on Raycom. Didn't know that. I thought Raycom started doing CFB games before 1984, but I could be wrong on that.
