True salvation is not so much our accepting Christ as it is His accepting us. Yes I did read Romans 5 and no where did I see that it said salvation was permanent but as Paul says in Timothy, I'm fighting the good fight. First off, to call a brother in Christ an idiot is not working like the body of Christ (Like the end of Matthew 5:22 says) But I believe faith saves. hey, naliuj. I'd rather give you data than opinions. :) Data: about 2% of the Bible text is miscopied in one form or another. For every verse, you will find therefore at least one perfect copy among the thousands we have. The errors/adulterations made are silly, so they stick out clearly. So that's the copying data.
Translations are all faulty. Can't be anything else. People try as best they can to translate. You must sacrifice meaning in the original, to show meaning in translation.
When in a hurry, I use NIV for flavor, KJV or NASB to track keywords -- learn what Bible means by tracking keywords! Often other translations capture nuances these Bibles miss. But none of them are good enough.
God can gift you with the ability to learn the same Words Jesus Learned, Spoke, passed on to us through the NT. Just use 1Jn1:9 like breathing, ask God who's the right teacher for you, and hunker down under him, learning and living on Bible. I use BibleWorks to speed that process.

naliuj, the "2%" is not my data, but an estimate you should find common on the internet about the percentage if mis-copying relative to the entire body of manuscripts we have. FYI: Baby Christians confuse salvation with post-salvation maturation. Salvation is invisible, sealed by the Spirit, Eph1:13-14. But there is evidence of post-salv maturation: that's James' theme.
Baby Christians can't read James, so mistake it as referring to salvation. But James 2 talks about OBVIOUSLY SAVED ABRAHAM, so its evidence regards Abraham's post-salvation MATURATION (award= 'Friend of God'), not him getting saved.

The problem is in the understanding of the word believe. With true salvation comes genuine repentance and real life change. Second Corinthians 5:17 tells us that when we are in Christ, we are a “new creation.” Is it possible that the new person Christ creates is one who continues to walk in the carnality of the flesh? It is not.

While the security of salvation is a biblical fact based upon the finished work of salvation by Christ, it is certainly true that some of those who seemed to have “made a decision” or “accepted Christ” may not genuinely be saved. True salvation is not so much our accepting Christ as it is His accepting us. When we are truly saved, it is by the power of God for the purpose of God, and that purpose includes the works that are the evidence of our conversion.

Those who continue to walk according to the flesh are not believers. This is why Paul exhorts us to “examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith” (2 Corinthians 13:5). The “carnal” Christian who examines himself will soon see that he/she is not in the faith.
The Bible is clear that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

The essence of this doctrine is found in Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace are you saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.” So we see that faith, given as a gift by God, is what saves us. But the next verse tells of the results of that salvation: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

Rather than being saved by some easy act of our own wills, we are saved by the hand of God Almighty, by His will and for His use. We are His servants, and from the moment of salvation by faith, we embark on a journey of pre-ordained good works that are the evidence of that salvation. If there is no evidence of growth and good works, we have reason to doubt that salvation ever truly took place. “Faith without works is dead” (James 2:20), and a dead faith is not a saving faith.

Yes I did read Romans 5 and no where did I see that it said salvation was permanent but as Paul says in Timothy, I'm fighting the good fight. First off, to call a brother in Christ an idiot is not working like the body of Christ (Like the end of Matthew 5:22 says) But I believe faith saves. However, as Romans 6:1-2 says we should not continue to sin, but follow Christ in faith! Second, to your Greek example, I truly believe that God divinely used His people to translate the Bible.

No, educatedthug15, they had NOT believed, which is why they asked how to be saved. Peter didn't say repent of SIN, read the text again. "Repent" is Greek metanoew, and means a CHANGE OF MIND, not remorse. And you'll notice that AFTER you change your mind about Christ (so are saved, John 3:16, 18, :36, John 16:9), THEN you baptise, so water doesn't save you either. And that ceremony DEPICTED the forgiveness of sins you RECEIVED when you believed. No repenting of sin, anywhere in the passage.

No, you don't choose to be buried with Christ, GOD did that, Romans 6. GOD made you buried with Him and rising with Him, that's what the witness ceremony we call "baptism" signified.

No "repent" verse in the Bible comes AFTER believing, either. So all the "repent" verses dealing with the Gospel (not all of them are Gospel verses) mean to CHANGE YOUR MIND ABOUT CHRIST, Mark 1:15 being the fully-stated meaning.
So you did that. So you are saved. Repenting of sin comes therefore post-salvation, 1John1:9. :)

NO! the same goes with salvation..what is truly salvation..it is repentance that leads to eternal salvation! we can't just confess with our mouth that jesus christ is lord but live in sins! You seem to think YOU can be holy on your own. But that's not ever true. You ALWAYS need God to run your soul. That's what 1John1:9, Bible,& the right teacher are for. Holy Spirit ALONE makes you spiritual: at rebirth Titus 3:5, & forever afterwards, Eph5:18.

hey, naliuj. I'd rather give you data than opinions. :) Data: about 2% of the Bible text is miscopied in one form or another. For every verse, you will find therefore at least one perfect copy among the thousands we have. The errors/adulterations made are silly, so they stick out clearly. So that's the copying data.
Translations are all faulty. Can't be anything else. People try as best they can to translate. You must sacrifice meaning in the original, to show meaning in translation.

When in a hurry, I use NIV for flavor, KJV or NASB to track keywords -- learn what Bible means by tracking keywords! Often other translations capture nuances these Bibles miss. But none of them are good enough.
God can gift you with the ability to learn the same Words Jesus Learned, Spoke, passed on to us through the NT. Just use 1Jn1:9 like breathing, ask God who's the right teacher for you, and hunker down under him, learning and living on Bible. I use BibleWorks to speed that process.

yah i like to use the NIV too. But im not sure i agree with your "data", i mean two percent isnt very much especially since complete manuscripts can only be traced back to the 4th century, thats alot of time for alterations be they accidental or otherwise. what about non canonical gospel how much stock do you put into them?

naliuj, the "2%" is not my data, but an estimate you should find common on the internet about the percentage if mis-copying relative to the entire body of manuscripts we have. True, most of the reliable manuscripts date to the 4th century, but we have so many over such a long period, you can tell where the messups are.

As for the noncanonical Gospels, I've read them; their DOCTRINAL error is SO significant, God can't have authored any part of them. Not a textual error, but DOCTRINE.
I mean, look at those things: they are Mad Magazine writeups, ribald satire on Bible, definitely not written by God. They are valuable for that reason. Helps you see the Koran and Book of Mormon are not from God, too, since both the latter texts employ the same ribald satire, though written centuries later.

5904, you can read the answer for yourself in the Gospels: "to fulfill all Righteousness". That's not quite the correct translation of dikaiosune in the context. Baptizw means TO IDENTIFY, so it's not about salvation, but a witness. Here, Christ witnesses His Total Identification with Father's Plan to go to the Cross, in context of Matthew 4's testing (which sought to make Him bypass the Cross).

Wow, 5904, you reasoned this out well. John 3, is about BIRTH, so the Lord makes this very witty comment about how you are born physically by "water", alluding to the breaking of the amniotic sac. So the second birth is via the Water of the Word, breaking the sac of spiritual death. When my pastor exegeted and taught this (which he did repeatedly, that's why I can read it in Greek), it becomes easy to see why BELIEVE IN CHRIST and only BELIEVE, is the way to be saved.

What work can a fetus do to be born? Nothing. It has to be done TO the fetus. See last half of Romans 8, which uses the same analogy. Paul's always talking about BIRTHING like Isaiah did, in Isaiah 53's Hebrew. So you are baptised by the Spirit, Rom6. Water of WORD, not physical water, saves you.

No, it's not a lie, 5904xx560, but you are READING INTO Bible what is not there. "Water" is not water baptism, but physical birth, the Lord making witty parallel to being born by the breaking of the amniotic sac the first time, and being born of the Spirit, the second. So you are making a liar of the Word by claiming it says something that is not there.

Belief in Jesus was always the way to heaven, Genesis 15:6. Abram believed in Jesus. Didn't matter that He also became Humanity 2000 years later: He was GOD before that, John 8:58. So John 3:16, BELIEVE that Isa/Jesus paid for all your sins, & you are FOREVER saved.
See how Just that is? HE PAID for it all. So ANYONE can be saved. It's NOT works, Ephesians 2:8-9. For good deeds can't measure up to Infinite Holiness. Besides, everyone BOASTS about their good deeds, Romans 4. How evil is that?

God the Father forever enjoys that Counter-Thinking, so it's okay that the sins occurred. Thus if we believe in Christ we are forever saved in that very second. So just believe that Isa paid for all your sins, and you'll never go under the earth. Paradise is ABOVE the earth, with GOD, in Bible. In Qu'ran, paradise is where hell is, under the earth (at least 12 ayahs on that fact, in Qu'ran).
