I pretty much have the same point of view. Forgiving just means that you won't bring it up again. You leave it in the past. It doesn't mean to let someone keep hurting you.

Let's say every week you come to me to borrow some money but you can't pay me back. I can forgive the loan and say it's okay and you don't have to pay me back. You can be sure that if you come to me in the future, I won't lend you any more money. I have forgiven the loan but I haven't forgotten that you don't pay back.
