  • WHERE THE HELL IS THE "V IS FOR VITAMIN" VIDEO! lol

  • This creeped me the f**k out as a kid.

  • v is for vajayjay

  • Verily this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it’s my very good honour to meet you and you may call me V.

  • Anyone know who did the voice on these "Letters In Space" clips? I've been unable to figure it out.

It seems like many of these old clips feature people who were or became famous... Joan Rivers/Gene Wilder in "Morphing Letters", Bill Cosby in "Curious Cat", Billy Crystal in "2 Train", Grace Slick in "Jazzy Spies", etc etc. It wouldn't surprise me to find that this was voiced by someone we are familiar with.

  • From the looks and sound effects,i'm almost certain that this was done by

Filmation Associates-who originally did the BATMAN and SUPERMAN

cartoons for CBS,,and also contributed to SESAME STREET,when it first

    aired in 1969.

  • i used to watch sesame street hoping this and pinball countdown would be on

  • this could be the reason why I've grown up thinking of V as a sad and lonely letter!

  • I don't know why people say they were scared by this?? I always thought it was relaxing.

  • V...

    KLUNK!

  • This cartoon scared me only because I was afraid of the letter V and the psychodelic one minute cartoon from SS's first season, 1969-70.

  • V For V :D

  • Anyone familiar with Ms. Nicky Trax - "Acid in the House" (1988)? It's on Youtube. The lyrics are mostly "there's acid in the house" over and over, but it's delivered in much the same emotionless drone as this chick's repeating "V".

Also, halfway through the song, you hear some of the same "trippy" sound effects. I've always wondered if this clip didn't influence that track.

Will at least one person watch both and tell me that I'm not just tripping myself?

  • vvvvvv

  • v

    v

    v

    v

    v

    v

    vvvvvv!

  • I saw this when I was a girl. And a few months ago, I saw Z in space. Both clips never scared me. I always thought it was pretty cool.

  • @TelephoneRock4ever Where is this v going to planet venus?

  • @redfox409: Maybe. ;-)

  • for Vendeeeetttaaaaa

  • v for Van Halen

  • Speaking of which, the beginning of Van Halen's song "Jump" would've been great for the letter V landing. ;-)

  • Can someone do something about the letter "Z" in Space??

  • Primed me for Starwars when I was 10.

  • This scared the crap out of me when I was little

  • V is for Venus.

  • Ha. That hollow, tin-drum sound when V hits the Earth. Never understood that.

  • I hadn't thought about it before but its a pretty lame sound after you hear all those cool spacey sound effects

  • Its a pretty lame/anti climatic sound to come after those cool, spacey sound efftects

  • Man! I forgot about these space letters! They were awesome!

  • It's Billy Mummy talking in his sleep

  • kinda scary

    no lie

  • really? I dont think the letter V had anything to do with cocaine or disco, I certainly knew nothing of them as a kid, and the letter V in space didn't scare me at all, I just recognized they took a little artistic license.

  • this was before disco

  • Was I the only one who wondered how a V got into space, and how it was propelling itself along, and how it survived without air?

  • The first time she says "V" it sounds like she is mildly aroused by the "V", lmao!

  • @phobos2k2 did you watch the "M in Space" one? Listen to the way she says "M" the first time!

  • @phobos2k2 omg! yess as a child i thought so too! lol all that was missing was heavy panting hahhaa

  • Wow, what a rush of memories. Does anyone have the SS animation clip of the letter X in Space? Almost like this, (young child's voice chanting, "X...X...X") but with a haunting guitar and flute melody in the background. I've never forgotten this clip since I was six in the mid-70's. Over the last 30 years, I still hear it in my head like a sad song. I would *love* to see this again - haven't been able to find it anywhere! Some childhood memories stay with you forever. Can anyone help? Thanks!

  • It's on here, I viewed it yesterday!

  • V is for Venus.

  • "v" coming into home base at the end always kinda scared me. thought it was gonna get me in the chest.

  • shit like this used to scare my very young ass and I often wonder who thought this shit was okay for youngsters...but then I remember it was a totally different world back then and people did cocaine and liked disco for a year or so sooooo...yeah but like now I love watching and remembering and feeling a nanosecond worth of that actual time...Its a rush! I'm glad I was alive to catch the end of such great creative nonsense...born in Las Vegas, NV. 1974 thanx!

  • It's interesting how some of the older Sesame Street clips had such an eerie subtext about them. The sounds and visuals in this "V" clip is so sparse and minimalist. You feel all alone in deep space, save for this letter V, which is apparently being willed across the cosmos by some enigmatic, God-like entity with a little girl's voice.

  • I agree, it is sort of creepy now that I think about it.

  • yeah, my 2 year didn't like this one! He said "no, no, scary" when he saw it.

  • Agreed! I am 29 and scary it IS. lol. PeacexXx!!!

  • Excellently put.

  • I love your comment. VERY well put! You discribed this clip with total clarity!!!

  • where's the "Z" clip?

  • I'm 37, but remember this like it was yesterday. While other kids laughed at the sound of the V landing on the moon, I remained transfixed in thought....the lower part of that V was a very sharp point, and I thought it would stab the moon. Ouch!

  • Yeah!

  • *drum bump*

I still laugh at it, haha

  • this is funny for me, cuz according to dad after watching sesame street (it musta had this segment or something), i went out to my old shed, saw the lock on it with a big "v" for victor, and i was shouting, "V! V! V! V! V!" and bashing it on the shed door.

  • V is an underdog of a letter.

  • Language is a virus from outer space.

  • THAT'S WHAT MADE CTW SO GREAT BACK IN THE DAY, MAN! weira and unexplainable animated clips that're gone forever(SOB!)Thank God 4 YouTube!

  • This one was awesome!

  • omg this used to scare the crap out of me especially at the time when she science fiction show V was popular because I was scared to death of that show

  • yes man thats nice series, How can I get this

  • Cosmic, baby!

  • urgh...i was always scared of this. but its great! :D

  • good ones!

  • Good ones! I was going to say vinegaroon, But din not know the spelling.

  • Only this time but next time i meant wild animals. Though i did say vizsla and that is a dog breed

  • There's a rodent called a vitzcatcha(doubt that I spelled it right.) I'm not kidding.

    THis is cool!

  • right a vizla its a dog breed but still an animal.

  • Who knows an animals starting with v? No do not give me vulture vole or vampire bat.

  • How about "vixen"? It's a female fox, but it still counts as an animal that starts with V.

  • There is a microbe called a Volvox does that count?

  • "Viper". And there's also "vinegarroon", the whip scorpion.

  • There's always the vicuña, a relative of the llama...and the vireo, a songbird.

  • Varmints!

    ...Okay, that probably doesn't count.

  • this was sooo scary to me when i was little, maybe it was that outer space music. :/

  • Imagine watching this while on X....*Wicked Cool*!!

  • Again and again I am shocked to watch another vintage SS video such as this- something that has been buried deep within my mind for 25 years comes immediately back to the surface, an odd feeling as my mind simultaneously feels the thoughts I had as a child and then also my new perspective as an adult. I never would have thought of this again until watching it here and every second is like a bizarre flashback of another lifetime.

  • Ditto.... Dang! Spent nearly an hour watching old Sesame Street clips on YouTube! Talk about dusting out old emotions/feelings I remember as a child. More power to YouTube. Thanks iseven for posting!

  • WOW i loved these space letters when i was a kid...20 years ago!

  • How many other letters in space were there?

  • Check out the vintage sesame street group on youtube. You're bound to find the others there

  • @raccoon85 V, M annd Z. That's all I know.

  • Weird but effective, as always

  • I alwayys liked the outer space alphabet

  • voom!

  • does anyone have the M in space?

  • Of course this is creepy - the girl just repeats "v" over and over as though possessed and/or drugged, her voice is drenched in echo, as though she's a phantom, and the tympani when the V lands connotes finality, as in "game over."

  • anyone have the m in space?

  • I remember this too! (I guess it worked!)

  • I remember this...It was and still is weird.

  • Oh heck yeah; the animators hired by CTW apparently had a knack for making any letter or number feel spooky.

  • I'm 36 and this still scares the bejesus out of me.

  • Saturn V

    Voyager

  • Is this where the series "V" got its start?

  • Great minds think alike, it seems!

  • The same animator did a "Z" cartoon (available here) and an "M" cartoon (not uploaded so far!) along the same lines. Makes me wonder why he didn't cover the whole alphabet eventually...

  • Between knowing about V and Z, they should've done all letters that rhymed with those.

  • I've wondered about that myself - perhaps budget?

  • By the way, my latest best-of-episode collection (#1091) now includes the M in space...three out of three!

  • Sounds remind me of "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century"! LOL I remember this! Awesome! I miss the 70s SS program! (and 80s, LOL)

  • Yeah, I could see why that'd be scary when you're about 3. When 22, it's only kind of scary. XDD

  • Me too, Skootch. I loved Sesame Street so much. I love the aesthetic, and I miss it.

  • Holy crap, I remember wseeing this on tv like it was just yesterday, man

  • I always thought this one was wierd....but alas' it stuck in my head lol...so it did it's job??

  • scary stuff.

  • I almost completely forgot about this one. I remember the landing sound too.

  • I like the sound when it lands. It even made me laugh when I was a kid. Thanks.

  • VOOM!! and there goes the letter V to land on the moon.
