Like you said, it´s not that difficult and you don´t have to have ever used Linux

to use ps2 homebrew. So ya, I´m definately a rookie with Linux but that has nothing to do with ps2 homebrew. Apples and oranges.

You know Mr. Linus Benedict Torvalds said he doesn´t care how you pronounce it as long as you use it :)

Well the graphic demos are just eye candy. these small programs are what homebrew developers normally start with.

As for the purpose of doing this on th PS3, it´s to learn how to load an elf file with SwapMagic. it´s the 1st step if you want to load some homebrew games, emulators, media player and even your ps2 backups. either off of usb or connected to the PC by LAN. can even use wireless. You can also use some apps to test you DS3, even dump the ps2 bios. cool stuff :)

i hav an european ps3 slim 250gb , it has an option to mak virtual memory cards but it says PS1/PS2 but my favorite game on the ps2 (Urbz) doesn´t freaking work! And im in portugal so i can´t find the PS2 System Data addon on the store

I do play ps3 games and have over 25 games. I also have about 30 BD movies in my collection. Are you sure the ps3 is only for playing games? i bought it because I believe it´s more than just a games console. :)

There´s an easy way to tell.

If it has 4 usb ports then it´s the old ones with ps2 compatibilty.

if it only has 2 ub ports then it´s not ps2 compatible.

You really think so? I would imagine the people playing ps2 and ps1 backups by installing a switch might have more to do with it. Also don´t forget the cost factor. they did remove the GS chip, 2 usb ports and the card readers.

Good stuff. Does this mean that USB Loader could possibly work? It would actually be usable considering that the PS3 supports USB 2.0. You should "borrow" a USBLoader.elf file and try it out. : D

Already tried. The elf loads but doesn´t recognise the USB drive.

Also even though the PS3 supports USB 2.0, in PS2 mode it only works with 1.0
