hey how do you do the wiring on the conversion? I have a 93 1500 and i found a 5.3 for 500.00 with 117,ooo on it out of a 2000 suburban. I'm very mechanicaly, but just not that up to date on wiring. any advice would be greatly appr.
@gearheadhuff There's not really a way to put it simply. You just have to pull out your diagrams and dispose one by one the wires you dont need. Then add a fuse block and fuse the the systems that need to be like igntion coils, etc. Then connect your factory systems like ignition switch and fuel system.
@gearheadhuff I'm not good with wiring so I got one of my GM tech buddies to do it since hes good with wiring. You can buy one already setup for standalone for ~$450 if you dont want to mess with it.
That's a nice setup with a 5 3! I been wanting to do that the same thing to my 98 chevy silverado. You think you can give me a call my # is 9125905865
@zayres29 Personally, no. The marginal benefit from a 6.0 over a 5.3 does not outweigh the cost. Ready to fun 5.3s can be found for less than $500 while its hard to find a long block 6.0 for that.
I have a 95 chevy swb, that currently has the crummy 4.3 in it and i am looking at doing a swap to a 5.3 like this, or a corvette ls1, how difficult is this to accomplish?, wiring, fuel pump, mounts, etc. any info would be greatly appreciated. The truck sounds nice as hell by the way.
All the swap info can be found at the ls1truck.com forum. You have to have a stand alone wiring harness which is made using a modified stock harness. You can modify it yourself or buy one from a swap company. The mounts were easy for me since I was coming from a 5.7l v8. A v6 truck will take some more work. You will need a fuel pump from a 96-98 vortec truck to give the new engine 55psi at the rail. All the details and more can be found at ls1truck.com
sounds good, How are the ls6 springs holding up to the cam? I have been looking at cams for my 5.3 swapped s10, I already have ls6 springs but just want to make sure I won't have to replace them every 30k miles.
All you do is leave those wires in tact when you cut out the old stuff. Then, after the new motor is in you just plug them back in. A/C, gauges, and dash controls arent dependent upon the ECM. For the A/C you have to buy an aftermarket mounting bracket for the compressor.
Good swap dro. Like the engine cover check my swap out on my 94
