And everyone ignores how the iPad also has more computing power. An iPhone has less RAM and an A4 processor (unless they have jammed an A5 in there and I am being stupid) while the iPad has an A5 dual-core processor. Also a larger screen allows for larger things.

Excellent observation by pointing out that in the commercial, the Eiffel Tower and the Roman Colosseum are not as important as the Ipad 2. Apple definitely knew that this would subconsciously tell us that message.

On the software side they've made the industry standard in Music production and Video production.

@OleVanDole You give apple waaaay to much credit. Having said that, I don't think anybody will say that they are a crappy company. The problem lies much deeper. First, the entire company stands or falls because of only ONE guy. Second, they rule their consumer base like a feodal dictator. Third, all their stuff is closed so hard that NOBODY can do anything on it without explicit confirmation of the cult leader.

Today, these things become a problem because they now have market share.

I'm talking about customization, software development, development of contemplary hardware devices etc. I don't need MS's approval when I wish to release something/anything for windows. Not so much with apple. In a lot of cases, it's even impossible to develop certain things without apple's help.

I don't get the point of hdmi output, an iPad is an iPhone with a bigger screen, you shouldn't need to plug it into an even bigger screen.. Does the iPhone have hdmi output too? That'd make way more sense

@Obski It's good if you're in a meeting and want to show something fullscreen on the TV. Or showing movies/pictures that you recorded. It's nothing special but it certainly makes sense.

A lot of ipads are being bought by companies to give to their marketing department and salespeople for the purpose of giving presentations at conventions and whatnot. The HDMI output is so they can plug it in and display whats on the screen to an audience of people. Its a silly use for the ipad, but its one that, for better or worse, is selling a ton of ipads at the moment.
