  • So basically, if you're say, ivory 01, you CAN use cool, neutral C, neutral W, Warm etc...as long as it's still ivory 01? (Depending on what you prefer)?

  • i subscribed. you are wonderful!

  • I have oily kin can I use cream foundation??

  • This video makes so much sense! Subscribed for sure!

  • why would a C be gold and NW pink if gold is the warm tone and pink is the cool tone Oo its like the wrong way around... help? :(

  • @x3SkylineSouvenir MAC switches the color to balance your skin tone out...so if you have a warm tone you are a NC and if you have a cool tone you are an NW...hope that helps.

  • BUMP@

  • this is really useful!! thank you. i recently did a video similar to this as well.

  • Great

    video

    do

    u

    contur

    yr

  • this video does help me understand more about the differences of foundation and tone so thank u. i love ur hair. u kinda remind me of eva longoria.

  • Thank you so much! this is really usefull!!!

  • Woooow! I believe I can finally trust make up again.

  • THIS SAVE MY LIFE GIRL you are the BEST now i know why my foundation look so SO weird well my face looks darker thank my chest but now i know that i have a yellow olive tone thank you so SO MUCH...

  • oh my......I want to cry.

  • lana, love your personality and knowledge on mac.....I love love love mac, can you please do a review on the eyeshadows must have from mac, and also on the studio sculp foundation...

  • I LOVE your personality!!! gish, girl.. you made me laugh! Don't know if anybody ever said this to you before but you remind me of my FAVOURITE artist ever.. PINK! the way you laugh, talk.. just so fun.

  • You have so much personality i love it! SUBSCRIBE!!!!!!

  • Im with you!! I have such a hard time whith my foundation, I can tell on daylight the pink on the NW im olive not pichy yellow...I hate to look pink all over my face...prefer to put some broncer or a nice blush with the NC if I feel without definition. thank u for that video I was lost in Mac

  • This is the first video ive seen after thousands, where the concept is explained clearly. Well done!!!!

  • OMG IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOUR CHANNEL <3 <3 THANK GOD I FOUND YOU AGAIN

  • I thought I was an NC45, but when I was matched, I was paired with 2 different shades: NW43 and NC50 (I have a yellow undertone). I decided to go with the NW43 Pro Longwear SPF 10 Foundation as an all over color, and it works really well for me. I find the NC45 to be super yellowy. I wear NW40 Studio Fix Concealer, which works for my dark undereye circles. I may go back and try the NC50 next summer. My very first MAC foundation of any sort was the Studion Fix powder in C7.

  • What lashes are you wearing? They are so nice!

  • Lost my mind at the 7 minute mark....too confusing!!! Gold, yellow, cool, warm. I thought I was just yellow but now I think I am gold.

  • Holy moly, thank you so much! I went off of Studio Fix a while ago because I just could not get my head around what colour I should wear and last time I was matched I was told I was an NW15 and had the same 'wha? NW?' thing... surprisingly the NC15 looks the same on you as it does on me and I'm definitely going and grabbing a bottle of NW15 the next time I have the opportunity.

Thank you for explaining the colours to my tiny brain!

  • Powder shud be for one purpose to set the foundation USE translucent powder, u use way less and it sets the foundation,,,

  • You're so cute! hehe..Very helpful video, thank you!

  • first you said you love looking olivey then at very end you said you love looking pale? which is it? love your videos thou, great personality girl!

  • sure that the cat skrached your wrists.. :P

  • very helpful! and lots of new ideas...thanks!!

  • That awkward moment in the store where the lightest shade is wayy too dark for me. xD

  • @DaRaccoonOfDaDoom go to Estee Lauder they bought out MAC dont let the Old lady packaging sway u away they have the best color range and Undertones are SIMPLE! Im neautral not to pink not to yellow, I evenly have both, and their products arent heavily fragrenced like MACS are and WONT break u out, way better coverage and U wont have to mess with ur face all day, the STUFF STAYS PUT ALL DAY!, wont transfer on ur phones or clothes

  • This video was SOSOSOSOOSOSOSOSOSOOOO helpdful!!

  • I am taking classes for this so I can work right out of highschool. This has really helped me understand foundation better! Before I was so confused! I felt helpless! Thank you so much! xoxo

  • OMG i love your makeup here! can you please do a turtorial on this look! pleaseeee

  • what would you suggest for indian/brown skin tones? whats better; C's or W's? if you wanted your skin to look brighter and least orange as possible

  • That was great and really helpful! and btw you're gorgeous and really funny :)

  • If you want to mix an NC and an NW should they be the same number? I normally wear NC42, so I want to get NW42. MAC makes so many powders, which ones did you use in this video?

  • Comment removed

  • Im confused..

  • Honestly I can't tell any difference like none

  • this was very very useful! Thanks

  • Hi Lana , I enjoyed this video :) you're so cute ^.^

  • ur cute

  • Love this. I am finally going to get some MAC foundation and I needed to refresher and nobody knows better than you. Also did you get your Knocked UP? I sent it a week and a half ago.

  • Glad you made this video :) will have to watch it more than once in order to understand it lol Thank you so much!!! :)

  • is this just for mac foundations?

  • Heyy Lana, I use the cheap dream mousse foundation and concealer by Maybelline and I have very light skin and a bit of acne so I need the coverage. It works great, doesnt look cakey or anything. However, I get the lightest shades they have but they are still way to dark for my skin, I was just wondering if you could give me tips as to which tones I should get.

    xoxo, iHeartJuryMe

  • What lashes are you wearing? They look gorgeous!

  • Glad I've watch this...please make an overview for tinted moisturizer and your skincare by Mac thanks alot now I can manage by my own and won't be afraid to tell what I really need

  • omg..its so overwhelming but im glad i found it. imma have to view it a couple of times lol. What brush did u use to blend you powder? Does anyone know?

it looks soo soft n fluffy! just what i need.

  • I got lost at around 8:04

  • im taking a makeup course and i missed the class where they talked about skin tones. i was kinda bummed but i decided to come to youtube and see what i could find and i am soooo glad i found your video. its very informative and you actually demonstrating everything really helped me. i even took notes!! when i went back to school i realized i had better notes and knew more that the ppl that actually were there the other day.

so thank you sooo much and God bless you :D

  • you are so much tanner than i am... i need a REALLY light shade then >,<

  • my skin is PALE! and i have freckles too.... i cant find the right colour foundation to even out my skin tone and hide my freckles a little bit.

  • OMG!! What lashes are you wearing?!?!

  • i've been going insane with my studio fix fluid!! i'm a nc44 but it made my skin look pale. worst part, i went to my little cousin's volleyball game and the lighting in the gym made me look almost look green!! another girl at the counter suggested for me to use the select spf 15 and i notice that it's more what i'm looking for but it's not quite there yet. *sigh i'll see if adding a powder on top will make the difference. THANX FOR UR ADVICE!

  • You are so pretty but, you shouldn't arch your eyebrows to much. It ages you.

  • i can tell the diffrence !

  • Ithink you made it fairly understandable :D

  • ,Many people like that "pasty"/bright/pale/pinup look like dita von teese or others, some like darker bronzey looks... its all Personal preference :)

so i dislike when ppl try to tell others whats suitable on THEIR skin, many makeupartist see a person who is brown and automatically run to NC45!!! let people pivk what they see suitable

  • Thank you!! It just helps alot!

Actually I like better nw ones for my skin... and now I know WHY! hahahaha

And you are very nice too...

  • Thank you for an informative video. Beautiful eye makeup!

  • You're so funny! :D I'm asian and my neck and chest area are very yellow but my face has pink spots. I have a yellow based foundation and also a neutral based foundation. They both look okay but the yellow based foundation shows a white cast when there is flash photography. What do you suggest I do? :( bare in mind my neck and chest are yellow.

  • Im sorry Im confused >_<

Why is NC for cool golden toned and NW warm pink toned? O_o I always associated cool tones WITH pinks since it has blue in it, and warm tones with yellows.... why is it opposite? :O Thanks for your help! :D

  • I would like to see you with long hair..

  • @DanceSaeeDance some Mac counter employees are dumb as shit & don't know what they're talking about . I told the girl at my Mac counter that I'm yellow but have discoloration on my cheeks & she said I was an nw. Sooo I bought the foundation in nw15 & I didn't use it much . months after I've bought the product I've used it about 6 times & HATE the way it makes me look orangey. I'm definitely going back soon to grab me an nc & see If I like it better.

  • Thank you so much this was great, and you're so pretty!

  • Hey Lana, Would you happen to remember what lashes you were wearing in this video? They are b-ea-uty-fulll!!

  • I like how NW looks, I accidentally bought an nc concealer, and I don't like the color haha, it makes me look orange-ish.. >: I'm an NW15, so I can't go any lighter.. The NC's look suuuuuuuper un-natural on me :(

  • I thought the NC suited you more when watching this. That might be the lighting tho :P x

  • Lol thanks for the turturial "Go get a mirror.. ill wait.." lol

    <33 love ur personality =D

  • let me just preface this comment by telling you that i'm a guy. i obviously don't

have a problem wearing makeup, but i want it to look really natural. i'm currently using select moisture concealer in nw20 as a foundation and i set it with golden bronzer, both of which are mac products. i feel like the concealer looks way cakey and i don't know how with to use to make it look better. tinted moisturizers don't give me enough coverage. what should i do!?!

  • Lana, I have very prominent pink/rosy undertones. I'm pretty light skinned. They matched me up with an NC20 and it just looks way too yellow and dark on my skin. She jokingly said I was a Golden girl and it looked great on me but when I got home and applied it, it just did not work for me. I tried to use it for almost 2 weeks to see if I could get used to it and I can't. Any suggestions? :(( The ladies at my local MAC counter are very difficult to work with sometimes so it gets hard for me.

  • @DanceSaeeeDance just try using NC15 instead, and if it's too light, then warm it up with a sheer powder on top

  • @DanceSaeeeDance u can even add a lighter Foundation to it as NC15 still goin to have alot of that undertone in it. Add a cover Girl or any lighter/fair color foundation, Loreal Tru Match in a Neutral undertone and the Lightest Shade wud be great to mix with. U really dont want MAC everyone Breaks out from it, I went thru a terrible time with it and got cosmetic acne really bad from that MAC Studio Zits Foundation. Estee Lauder will DEF have a match for u

  • @DanceSaeeeDance I had the same problem when I was going to pick foundation. The girls would try and tell you that the foundation you matched was wrong and recommend what they think is right. I even had the same girl match me to a different shade on different visits. I'm one of the most yellow toned people I know (one of my friends even refers to me as the simpsons) and I was being matched to NW15 even though my perfect match is NC20. You will often know better what suits you

  • I was confused about this for a while but you cleared it all up! :) I love watching your videos! You constantly make me laugh. I had to sub!

  • I love this video, I had no idea what kind of foundation that would match me at all befor I saw this video!:D Thankyou so much!

  • So- I am no longer confused; If I get NW30 which powder do you recommend I choose to go with it?

  • So- so I am no longer confused; If I get NW30 which powder do you recommend I choose to go with it?

  • Your funny (funny as in ha ha) personality really shines through on your videos!

  • hi lana love ur video :) so i'm an nc42 so what shade would u recommend in a nw foundation?

  • I love your make-up!!!

  • i absolutely love your personality!

  • this is a weird comment but, you have a really nice nose.

  • Hey Lana! This has helped soo much! THANK U

  • yur soo cute i enjoyed watching you and your tutorial,,i learned alot thanks

  • Hi Lana,

Your face is flawless. In the summer, I went into a MAC counter in Macys and the makeup artist told me I was NC 30 and MSF natural in medium dark. However, it's winter and so my skin got lighter. I went in again and the girl at MAC told me I was a NC20 with the MSF natural in Light. But to me, I feel like it's too light for me. I'm pale already and my face has redness everywhere. Therefore I am not sure which color I should go for. I like FULL COVERAGE. Help?

  • this video is great!x

    so, if i am nw20, could i also use nw15, nc20 and nc25 or just nw15 and nc20 lol?

  • question... would this type of makeup cover acne and blemishes?

  • i am so unbelievably jealous of your eyes!

  • i am still so confused-_-

  • uhm.. I have the studio fix powder.. Im NC25 wath color do i need in studio fix fluid??

  • umm foundations..especially mac gets darker in a couple hours, i wouldnt want a dark face.

  • you dont look pill you look tan :)

  • @Makeupbuying23 umm the lighting is dim, u must be caucasians..u think anything that isnt pork skin is either tan or black..sheesh. i dont have to be pasty to be pale

  • she is emeo i have nice and mean cats they dont srach on my arms she is a begginer for emo

  • Cont...tried the nc25 concealer along with my nc30 foundation but didn't like it so had it exchanged it to nc30 concealer. Hoping that I can cover a small pimple scar. Both looked like it stand out more from the concealer being lighter. Pls help on giving tips on what right shade I can used for my concealer along with my foundation??? Gladly appreciate ur help...smooches;)

  • Hey doll. First of, just wanted to thank you for this great video, very informational and just love your style!!! How I wished the people who actually work at MAC is more like you...who actually knows about the product. I love MAC longwear foundation now but I used to wear the studio fluid line in NC30 but I have been having a hard time trying to get the right shade concealer. One of the seller from the store, suggested for me to use the select cover up in NW25, although I'm a NC30 in foundatio

  • I want to be a make up artist, so I'm studying this video a lot... Thanks!

  • you really help me pick up the right color of my foundation! Thank you so much!

  • The side on my left looks way warmer and alot nicer and glowyyy

  • Thats crazy! I could have sworn you look about NC35 ish on camera! lol But good tips here. Ive tried wearing and NW and Im soo yellow, that the foundation turns gray on me.. boo.

  • hi may i know what false lashes u wearing in this vid? pretty!

  • I cannot get over the fact of how u get so freaked out when u see that the nw actually looks better LOOOOOOOOOOL it´s so great!!! funniest thing though... I'm exacly the same.... I use nc... but sometimes I feel like maybe I should wear nw and I'm like... "noooo" LOLOL what is up with that??? LOLOLOL it's like different religions LOLOLOL

  • if I'm in studio fix fluid nc42 means I'm nw43?

  • Thank you so much woman!!! I am so excited that now i understand all of the different numbers/letters. lol, you are the bomb! Keep it up, Im going to take my pinkish skin tone bunz and get some NW TODAY!!! Gacias!

  • Thank you so much woman!!! I am so excited that now i understand all of the different numbers/letters. lol, you are the bomb! Keep it up, Im going to take my pinkish skin tone bunz and get some NW TODAY!!! Gacias!

  • amazing personality you got!

  • I surely wish you could tell me what foundation shade I am, LOL. I've had such issues finding the right match for years. Every MAC counter that I go to, they always tell me NC45...and I know that's not possible, cuz it looks clearly orange compared to my neck and the rest of my body. It seems like that's the shade number that most people give Black women, LOL.

  • @EdotRich yup! u end up looking an orangey/choclatey mess! they always do that to brown skin women..NC45! in my previous comment i stated that before i even looked at your comment! I hope u find something u like though :)

  • @EdotRich maybe NW45 ..?

  • @EdotRich Try getting a sample at your local MAC container of your choice foundation and get a shade in both NC45 and NW45. Then compare the two which shade matches you BEST. Good luck to ya. :)

  • NW wayyyyy better!!

  • UR A LOVELY FUNNY SMART AND CONFIDANT GIRL!! ur so much fun to watch, your advice is amazing too!!! yyaaaayy!!

  • I'm glad that you promote experimentation. I've been told by so many different MAC artists that I'm different colors...to come home and find that they've given me something that looks wrong when applied all over my face!

  • So just to be sure i have yellow and a little i mean a tiny bit of red undertones i should stick with NC. i have never tried nw foundation but i have in concealer. maybe i should just try some samples and see what i come up with. this stuff is confusing but thanks for clearing some things up.

  • ur so right... I actually really love the nw on u more than the nc LOLOL and I am super obsessed with nc too :D I'm nc25, now nc35 with tan wowowo :D this was a really cool vid girl, keep 'em coming :D

  • Hi Lana! This video was so helpful! A little confusing but I followed haha :) I was wondering, I know you said something about if your skin looks too pale, and that's the problem I alwaysss have! I go into MAC and they match me with a NC 20 or even 25 but it makes me feel like my face is just flat and has no dimension and I look ghostly almost. My skin is pretty tan (I live in Hawaii, yay sun!) I know you can't match me with a color, but should I use NC or NW? I'm a little confused :) thanks!!!!

  • Hi Lana. I absolutely love your videos - very professional and clear-cut. I was just wondering if you could do a 'skincare' video, which could include your skin type and skincare regimen....as well as basic skincare for other skin types e.g. dry skin, combination skin, oily skin, normal skin. Thanks sweetie!

  • I love your personality!

Will you please do a video on how to mix foundations to match a client so that MUA's don't have to carry every single color foundation. I'd much appreciate it! Thanks!

Oh and I hope you'll enter my Arbonne, Mariah's Sassy Fashions & Charm Factory giveaways.

And if you add my channel to your Other Channels module, I'll return the love and add yours to mine, too!

  • Hey Lana, I'm Hispanic and an NW30. My face is pink but my body is obviously yellow. I've tried lots of yellow foundations and they look AWFUL on me, I look sick. I really don't think I can wear a yellow foundation even though I'd really like to see it look good on me. MUAs tell me to stick to warm. What do you think?

  • Heyyyy Lana......I'm totally confused! I like the warm/olive kind of look and had my make up done by a Mac make up artist - wanted to try mac's face and body foundation....which I love. I'm C5 - and I thought this was fairly warm....when I wanted to try Studio fix fluid I got NW 25 - which I also thought was warm (not pink) - I actually think this is a bit too dark and I'm back to the C5. Any advice????

  • @readmycomment1 olive is not warm tts cool. NW means - neutral warm. Pink/red undertones = warm.

  • Great Video!!!

  • You look gorgeous in this vid, love the makeup

  • cool hairstyle, cool makeup. pretty face :)

  • awesome video! This was extremely helpful. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  • what about mixing foundations? like a nc with a nw?

  • @shama316 i do it all the time!

  • OMG! Thank you this helps me out alot. A long time ago I bought an NC20 & regretted it for so long because every time I wear it I look SOOOOO Yellow. I knew then that I'm an NW20 so I bought NW20 studio fix powder becasue I wear powder everyday & liquid when I go out. So now that I know I can even it out with a powder I can use my studio fix powder in NW20 over the NC20 :D YAY!!! Thank you for making me excited to use the yellow foundation again.

  • great vid!! best ive seen with explaining this!! and i could tell a difference with the shades on ur face!

  • Very informational...been using MAC for years and never understood the whole concept of the colors and how to put them together..Thank you MAC Goddess Lana :) Love V-Lo

  • I love how sad you are that u should switch to NW, I like you in NC though :-p

This was really helpful and u could totally see the things you were demonstrating :-)

    Thanks :-D

  • great video :0)

  • I have a question..Im a nc 37 that much i know..lol..but I have darkness around my mouth and jaw and sometimes my foundation looks ashy the girl at mac gave me some nw 40 something that was way too dark..my face wasnt ashy but I had an orange face and yellow body..lol nobody at my mac knew how to cover darkness ive heard using an orange concealer but not sure..please help :( lol

  • @vina213 if you are an NC37, there is NO WAY you should try NW40..I already know that's too dark. Try using an NW35 instead. Unfortunately though with skin spots and sun spots, you just have to live with them showing underneath, unless you want to cake on the makeup. I have a sun spot right by my left eye. You can see it in some videos. You can cover it up, but you have to go into a mac location to do trial and error tests

  • @VivaGlamLana I dont have any spots..my skin is just a big darker around my chin its kinda common with indian skin tone..but I guess ill try to use nw concealer on those areas and see how that goes... :)

  • No, this video is awesome, because finding a good foundation shade for me is so trial and error, and i'm willing to bet that's true for so many peeps. i got color matched at sephora for MUFA HD at 115 - but there is no warm or cool designation [as far as i know], and i have a lot of redness in my skin. i think it would be useful to get color matched with MAC, just once for reference. thanks for the vid. peace!

  • very useful, thank you :)

  • Great great video! i use NC25 sff, when the woman in the store said that my skin was more yellow tone i was like wh..at??? and i really like the NC though but i really wanna try the NW .. the concealer i use is NW20 so which powder can i use on top of the NC25 to get more colour instead of yellow ? xxxoxx

  • @shannonursulaa there's a lot you can use!! use the mineralize medium powder, it will warm you up enough to tone down the yellow...but not add as much color on top like studio fix would. you can also try NW20 pressed or loose powder, or try N3 Studio Fix powder with a big brush.

  • i can see the differnce i knew which was which b4 you said it.

  • this is the best and most informative video on choosing foundation shades ive ever watched

  • I use NC40 and natural medium powder .I had NC45 itt was too yellow so I don't know currently use NC40

  • I like looking olive too. I wear nc 35 and on my skin its a little yellow.. not so much orange ... should i be using a lighter color? Great video tho!

  • I love your videos they are very informative. Can you do a "how to chose foundation for your skin type" kind of video?

    thanks

  • I agree with you when you said the NW looks more natural on you- but it's funny how you can only tell when you have both the NC and NW on your face. This vid was reaallly helpful; I just started working at MAC and was overwhlemed by all the foundation "knowledge" that I have to learn!

  • Awesome video! Thankyou!

Mac gave me NC15 but it's still to dark for me, gosh I'm a zombe white girl

  • @AssiieJj Tell me about it. I had that problem once too where NW15 and NC15 were just oxidizing too much! I ended up using NW15 or NC20 in the Select cover up concealer as my foundation. Those are a bit lighter. =)

  • @VivaGlamLana I didn't expect you to reply me ! awesomeness! I also have some freakles (if that's how you call them in english) on my nose. so I have the same problem as you, Yellow / Redish, I like the more yellow side just because it's cooler. I love cool tones. Is that concealer that you mentiond to use as foundation? Isn't it to thick? I use white baby powder to set it just because it will lighten up the foundation lol. hehe, wrong.. I know.

  • yeah i like the nw on you better lol :)

  • what if you have like a little bit of acne or you r red around your nose?? should you use a NW even though it has a pink undertone??

  • @beautylover15 yes. use an NW concealor, it helps hide it more.

  • @VivaGlamLana thank you soo much :) thank god cause i just got a concealer for the first time and it is a NW

  • really helpful!!! :-)

    Thanks Lana ^^

  • love this video, I always get told oh your an NC and I'm like noooo I'm an NW it's all about your preference as long as the color matches you can play with the shades. I use NW 30 or 35 and have powder in NC40 or 42 and it looks great. So thanks cuz this comfirmed my thoughts :)

  • great vid

  • This is a bit confusing. Can you help with deeper shades? I wear between NC50 and NW45. Deep dark powder. I have oily skin but each counter person suggests something different.

I have given up on Mac because of this. My inner face is one shade and my outer is another. I currently wear 2 foundations to even this out.

    I love your videos!

  • @divinedivak Wearing two foundations isn't uncommon. What you can do is use only NW45 or NC50 all over your face, and set the outer parts of your face with dark or deep dark mineralize powder. Then you can set the inner part with deep dark blot powder, since its much easier to use two different powders than two different foundations. Mineralize will add a little bit of color to your skin, so you'll have to see which foundation you like better.

  • This was really helpful! Thanks much!!!!!!!!

  • LMAO...yes...it is very confusing. lol I think the NW15 is too dark for ya though. :D Just slightly. Thanks for sharing. :D

  • @CreatingBeauty It def. darkened up when I set it with my C3 Studio Fix powder...If I use NW15, i'll have to move to C2.

  • This has got to be one of the best foundation videos I have ever seen. Thank you so much for this. Also glad im not the only one who obsesses about being an NC/C lol but you made me want to at least try an NW =)

  • its nice to hear someone trying to look pale. It gets annoying when everyone goes for the tanned look. I think this video was very helpful.

  • I personally think my skin is Olive toned. When I last went to MAC I told her I wanted an NC match and she demanded I get NW. I hate it. I look orange.
