Just stunning. I saw him in a wonderful concert this evening with Shahzad Ismaily. Completely blew me away. More genuineness in his versions of these Appalachian songs than one hears even from some "traditional" performers.
Just found out 20 minutes ago that Samamidon is playing a free gig at a local park here in Malmö, Sweden in 2 hours. So I decided to check out some songs on YouTube to see if I like him enough to go and see him and wow, this is great! Definitely seeing him tonight!
Does anyone know what the song is called that was on a free cd with a music magaizine about cowboys and outlaws????? oh and this song is so damn good, it's soul touching!
Yes, I agree. JK is the best, went to see his live shoe not too long ago, but fuck that. its nothing compared to this tune, samamidon, is the best, i have Nialler9 to thank!
Just heard Sam Amidon today for the first time live on Ireland's Lyric FM. Impressive style. I am delighted to have discovered this great talent. This song im listening too now is really beautiful...
This isnt the officiel vid, right? I think its way to obviously sentimental. Whats great about about samamidon is that he has given these great songs a rebirth - and a relevance in this day and age. I think the music should be left standing on its own and not be forced into this sentimental settler setting.
I don't think this is 'obviously sentimental'. This song is so reminiscent of Classic Americana, that this video is exactly the medium this song requires.
I can't even describe how great this song is. It's so beautiful, simply amazing. I've listened to it over and over, I feel like it should go on forever.
My students told me I would love YouTube, and they were right. This is some great music, but do I ever hear any of it on radio? Or mainstream TV? This is the place for young spirits to congregate for all things fresh, beautiful, and funny. And some off-color stuff too. I could listen to this music over and over and over.
interesting sound this guy sam amidon has, kinda reminds me of coldplay mixed with some philip glass...really sounds like the kinda music that will grown on u the more u listen to it
Simply gorgeous! The music touches something essentially American, the same way that, say, Aaron Copeland or Bruce Springsteen's music does. Bravo Sam Amidon.
Im crazy about this song, Ive listened to it about 76 times in a row. I can't get enough, there's an uncanny sense of intimate comfort in the lyrics and tune
jeremy, by the way of ric de la cruz and subsequent 3-degrees of separation, your video came to grace my you-tube playlist -- BRAVO, young man for a sensitive, artistic music-video -- am sending it to all music lovers and video makers i know -- keep up the fine work! all my best, kate
Really a wonderful video. Excellent idea and execution. Even though it was all archive you created a real time, place, more important, a real right emotion.
Just got into this artist then find out he's playing Bristol on the 19th and I just can't make it. Gaaaaargh! As song writers go, he's well up there.

'Tis not this long journey
That grieves me for to go
Nor the country that I'm leaving
Nor the debts that I owe
There's one thing that grieves me
And bears on my mind
That's leaving my darling
Pretty Saro behind

I wish I was a poet
Could write in fine hand
I'd write my love a letter
One she'd long understand
I'd send it by the water
Where the islands overflow
And I'd think of pretty Saro
Wherever I go
nnutcase 3 years ago 8
I came to this country
Eighteen and forty nine
I thought myself lucky
For to be alive
I looked all around me
No one could I see
That I could compare
With my pretty Saree
