  • @MylesM316 yeah...and the lions will win the super bowl in the next 3 years, and the cubs will make it to the world series for the first time in 100 years and lebron james is gonna win 6 nba titles in 7 years lol. you silly leafs fans are all the same. GO WINGS!

  • @iwalkalone43 Can you blame us for being passionate & loyal for the Leafs?? We're just like ALL other fans, OK?? The Leafs WILL win one again someday.

  • r.i.p. burnsy!

  • Leafs were magic back then....

  • @Vertigo2903 the leafs got a great team all for one one for all thats the secret to success in hockey.fight fight til the night

  • I want this rivalry back.

Of all the things I hate Bettman for, and there are many, the thing I hate him for most is taking away the Detroit-Toronto rivalry.

It really is not fair to the fans of these two storied franchises.

  • @redwingsmike3718 welll you might get tht noww because of winnipeg is back !

  • This boys is when hockey was hockey......I miss those days.....

  • I can remember this game like it was yesterday...I was 16. I remember wondering why Cheveldae came out so far to cut down the angle and put himself so far out of position. CMUBrent is exactly right; that was the end of Cheveldae; they picked up Essensa next year...

I also remember Yzerman in an interview saying that he thought this team had the talent to go to the Finals...bit of stretch but they were good that year.

  • @Kerkopes

yeah they went from the harold ballard days of the 80s to a resurgent team from 1993-2004 including the quinn era

  • He puts the "mad" in my name

  • The beginning of the end for Tim Cheveldae in Detroit (pronounced Dee-troy-it, of course, lol).

  • The Greatest Leaf Goal Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!! 93 was the year, fuck Fraser, Gretzky and Bettman!!!! RIP Mr. Burns, you were the Best Leaf's Coach Ever!!!!!!

  • TRAINER WITH THE WATER BOTTLE

  • R.I.P. Peter Zezel

    1965-2009

  • R.I.P. Pat Burns

    1952-2010

  • @Kerkopes actully this started an era of the leafs constantly finishing near top of the conferance, and always in the playoffs. something they rarely did in the 80s.

  • also it's interesting to note that detroit had all the core pieces but only gel'd a few years later

  • i'll never forget this game... what a classic!

  • my eyes are watering watching this...

  • '93 was one hell of a playoff year.

  • these were the day we were actually good

  • I wonder why they painted the ice inside the net blue in those days

  • i remember watching this game at a buddys' house who happened to be a Wings fan and when the Leafs scored in overtime i could'nt help but jump for joy. needless to say he was not very impressed and threw me out........ lol

  • I remember I was going nuts in my living room when Borchevsky scored. It's a shame this small guy only lasted a few short seasons. He always seemed like some lucky kid who got a chance to live out his childhood dream to play in the NHL. Short, looks like 100lbs soak and wet and would make you nervous when ever someone hit him in the board thinking it killed him. I'm digressing.

The Gilmour years were much better than the Sundin years for me personally.

  • Wasn't it so much better without the obnoxious horns after each goal?

  • joe bowen went nuts!!

  • "sarcasim?" are u retarded it's sarcasm.

  • So? No one cares. We watch this clip as it was the time the leafs finally became good again.

  • Montreal Canadians

  • AGAIN, Tenzin, sarcasim! i was using sarcasim!

  • lol...my bad... didnt know u were being one...

  • This one is easy it was Montreal in 5 games over the L.A. Kings.

  • no one understands sarcasim...

(i was taking a shot at Leaf fans)

  • i dont really give 2 shits what your point was... my point is 13 stanley cups. and thats all i really care about. =)

  • Toronto Maple Leafs - 13 Stanley Cups

Detroit Red Wings - 11 Stanley Cups

  • its so weird that leafs won cuz the red wings had howe and yzerman o.o

  • If the leafs won the series against the kings it would have been Habs-Leafs in the finals, which would have been awesome

  • is that really what the redwing horn sounded like back then

  • Pat Burns?!?!? damn i miss him on the devils WE NEED YOU BACK PAT!!

  • losing game 7 at home has gotta hurt.

  • It did. I was there. Luckily, we've had many good memories since, which helps us forget the tough losses. I love this rivalry, and it always hurts a little more losing to Toronto. Wish we played each other more often, like in the old days.

  • @mistrbrwn It did. I was there, and first seeing the Leafs tie it late, and then win it in OT was heartbreaking. Shawn Burr made a great play to get the puck out, then went to the bench. Bad idea. Leafs got the puck back in, and before Burr's replacement could get into the play, the puck was in the net. Plus Koharski didn't call 1 penalty against the Leafs all game. Wings pp scored 4 goals in game 6. Too bad Leafs got screwed against L.A. in game 6. Leafs/Habs final would've been epic!

  • On May 1, 1993, the Leafs nation made a roar that you could hear from coast to coast! Once they defeated the Red Wings in Overtime in game 7, this Leafs team were something else.

  • Go Blue Jays....sorrry. I am a Homer.

  • I'll never forget watching this game, my dad jumped around for joy like crazy. The game is a true classic and it definately did mark the begining of a new era.

  • YAAAAAAAY!!!

  • The chess pieces at the beginning is a brilliant touch. haha

  • I love watching this. Great memories.

    Joe Bowen is awesome.

  • I miss this brand of hockey. Where has the game I loved gone?

  • To please the south

  • Man could Bob Cole call a game or what. He was the best ever in the 80s and 90s.

  • This was Cole in his prime - it was a few years after this where he started to age a bit and lose his touch....but at the peak of his abilities, he was one of the best ever.

  • @rickincalgary i gurantee a leafs vs Habs serise would bring cole back to his prime!

  • I am a Habs fan but I would loved a Habs-Leafs final.

  • What did become of Pat Burns?

  • went on to Boston and New Jersey, won a Cup. He's had 3 different types of cancer since. He's a fighter, he'll make it.

  • Oh and a message for our coach: Pat I know you're having a time of it but I hope that you can look at moments like these and forget about life for 4:00 at a time. Thank you Coach. Now get your ass back behind the bench!

  • how come Detroit has ahd that little caesars sign forever?

  • because Mike Illitch owns the Red Wings and Little Caesars

  • Terrible. One of the most crushing losses I've ever experienced as a Wings fan. It was game 7. Overtime. And we lost to the friggin Leafs no less.

I remember the feeling after this loss, wondering if the drought which was 38 years at that point, was ever going to end.

I'm glad some of the seasons since 93 have had much better endings.

  • GO LEAFS GO !!!!!

  • im not saying the leafs will win the cup any time soon but i also don't see or want to see the red wings win another cup i want a team that hasn't won a cup yet to win red wings suck so hard it makes me sick

  • I'm glad Cliff's back. Recharge the team better this time!

  • Not anymore he's not (the GM), it's Brian Burke

I am not making this up

  • And he'll do even better.

  • New era for you to shut the fuck up and if you don't like the Leafs then don't watch their videos you loser get a life don't waste your team on a team you hate! (BTW I am not a Leafs fan)

  • fucken potvin

  • well when the redwings won it in 1997 they had a 55 year drought, so the leafs still have 15 years to go!

  • try 42 year drought bud

  • It's a 42 years drought

  • leafs have won 13 my bad

  • you got it, sir...and how many of those cups were won while you were on earth? NO Stanley Cup Finals appearances in 40 years since the original six era ended, damn that is almost impossible

  • yeah well chicago is worse. they shoulden't even have teams in the US. hockey is canadian

  • haha, poor leafs. a first-round win is the best you can come up with in the last 40 years of history?

  • Wat team do u like?

  • new jersey...ok man, let the insults fly!!!

  • new jersey has won the cup 3 times, leafs have won 3.

  • EliteViet, the Leafs haven't won anything since 67. That's a good time? I think you need to stop supporting those losers. Back to reality!

  • the leafs suck the redwings are so much better than them

  • Nick you stupid dick, Leafs are one of the best teams in the league and they currently have 2nd most Stanley Cups won in the entire NHL, so don't talk shit

  • They're one of the best teams in the League? I'm a diehard fan but the current team is one of the worst teams in the League

  • another one of Reggie in BC's favorite games*

  • You were shitting your diapers, so stop talking !

  • i remember this game like it was yesterday-- an awesome game and it was so exiting for the leafs to win as they were huge underdogs in the series

  • lll

  • 1993 leafs were the best team in the nhl, flat out and simple and would have destroyed the habs like they did in the regular season. Unfortunately it was out of their hands with mr fucking fraser.

  • As big as a Leafs fan as I am I highly doubt we'd have beat MTL. I'd have love to have seen that series though. 100th Stanley Cup should have been Toronto vs Montreal.

  • Gooooooooooo Leafs

  • What a rush just watching it again!!

  • I know this is only the highlights of this game, but still. You get odd-man rushes, physical play, goals, and two arch-rivals battling each other to the end.

This is how playoff hockey should be played. None of that clutch-and-grab, trap garbage with two teams playing not to lose and putting the crowd to sleep.

  • this was a great seris. another great seris was leafs sharks of 94 i would love to watch the seris again

  • mvp for leafs = gilmour, mvp for wings = fedorov

  • What an amazing game and series!! So many memories! That water bottle at the end....

  • the habs won the cup that year

    GO HABS GO

  • only because they throw the other team's gane off so bad. It is a known fact that the toronto maple leafs have the biggest fan bases in cities other than toronto. Best Crowd In The World Baby!

  • fuck you liltug2

  • the leafs are still good they just arent consistant.

  • thats true, I wonder what they will do during the offseason so they could kick butt next season

  • they should rebuild the team around sundin kaberle steen and toskala the rest can and should be replaced

  • does anyone have the leafs sharks seris from 94 that was a great seris but no one has it

  • I turned 5 on game 4 of the LA series, and i can remember going to kindergarten almost every day wearing my leafs jersey during the 93 and 94 playoffs, dam i miss these days

  • hey isn't that cliff flecher?

  • Yup, just a little less tanned !

  • lol

  • what a call by Bob Cole. priceless

  • i've always liked Bob Cole as an announcer

  • Bob Cole is God.

  • When the leafs were actually good

  • I want these days back again !! Damn it !

  • This was the playoff series where I really got into hockey, I was about 6-7 years old when this series happened, and I remember when Borchevsky scored that Goal in overtime my dad just grabbed me and hugged me soo tight

  • I remember this goal vividly. It was May 1 1993, and it was my 13th birthday. I was the only one home, and I remember the Leafs scoring and me getting up off the couch and jumping off of the living room table 'cause I was so happy! *lol*

  • I was at THE NAC in London Ontario they played it on a tv in the club!!!!! SCORES!!!! SCORES!!!

  • hockey is never this intense anymore i miss it

  • go leafs!

  • 3:12-3:19 is amazing. I love how they're jumping around and hugging.

I wish I was old enough to have been around for this! My dad remembers this, but I don't.

  • if this happened u would be seeing jfj and the other staff giving eachother blowjobs

  • LOL

  • i went apeshit when that goal went in. i was 13 years old.

  • lucky buut u must of been pist with gretzky

  • Whatever happened to Nikolai Borschevsky? Not a leaf fan just curious.

  • i think he got quite a serious injury in the 93-94 season and was not the same after

  • I miss this rivalry.

  • Me 2. The schedule is fucked up now. Needs to be changed.

  • Great rivalry. I remember a bunch of the regular season games going to OT, usually ending with a Clark bullet top-corner. Now with the current schedule we're lucky to see the Red Wings once a year. Stupid, stupid Bettman.

  • I was 9 years old, and I still remember staying up late to watch that game. Those where the good days.

  • Fuckin A!!!!!!!

  • wow...i never hear bob cole so excited anymore. not even close to this. if only the leafs made the playoffs more often, he might sit on the edge of his seat again.

  • dougie ties game 7, and wins game 1 of the next series, WOOOOO

  • Gilmour to Bobby Rouse....shot......SCORES! Joe Bowen <3.

  • Man I remember watching this game at a party from start to finish. Everyone would tell me to stop watching because the Leafs were gonna lose. Screamed at the top of my lungs when Borschevsky tipped that shot in. Man Joe Bowen sounded like he had a coronary.

  • fans just aren't as nuts as they were back in those days. I wish the rinks were smaller and less suits

  • great game it going go down in history

  • Most exciting series I've ever seen......Loved it!

  • I was in grade 5 during this series. I nearly broke my ankle when they scored. This was the year I really became a fan.

  • go leafs go

  • 1967.......

  • what the fuck!?

  • Keep your racist comments off the board.

  • wow, 1967......I haven't heard that before. So fucking original you pillow biter.

  • they tend to forget that it took the red sox 86 years to win the championships, the leafs are going into 41, WE'RE NOT EVEN HALF WAY THERE YET!!!

    GO LEAFS GO!!!!

  • Leafs suck ass now in 06 07

  • After years of suffering in the norris division. I Had reason to jump for joy! This Was my Stanley cup(prefer the real one)In the Overtime I nearly lost my marbles..lol!!

  • Nikolai Borschevsky is awesomeee

  • Nikolai Borschevsky is awesome

  • i always liked pat burns

and i love Joe Bowen, it will be a real shame when he stops broadcasting.

  • Bob Cole called this series on CBC, Joe Bowen did this series on radio.

  • well leaf fan if u do remember u and dougie and mike the fag folino weren't picked to do anything so before u say it was meant to be just remember that u were out matched in every part of that series except goaltending chevy cost us that series

  • HEART and PRIDE will ALWAYS beat so-called talent! It wasn't just Chev's fault; The wings in this series were HEARTless and GUTless! After game 2 they thought they would just sweep. Game 5 was the turning point; Leafs struggled in 6 at home, but in game 7 THEY JUST WANTED IT MORE! I still have my beer-soaked jersey from that night! We didn't want to leave the Joe that night, we took it all in. Besides Leaf fans celebrating, the place was a morgue.

  • how many leafs fans were there?

  • TheMadHockeyBlogger, thanks so much for posting this video. It brought a tear to my eye. The greastest playoff run for the Leafs of my generation imo.

  • Still brings tears to my eyes...thank you Cliff Fletcher for assembling that amazing group of the hardest working hockey players one could ever find.

  • This was a great series! Gilmour; THE HEART AND SOUL OF THE MAPLE LEAFS!

  • The goal that forever buried the Ballard era.

  • DOOOOUUUUUUGGGGIIIIIIIIEEEEEEE!
