@MylesM316 yeah...and the lions will win the super bowl in the next 3 years, and the cubs will make it to the world series for the first time in 100 years and lebron james is gonna win 6 nba titles in 7 years lol. you silly leafs fans are all the same. GO WINGS!
@iwalkalone43 Can you blame us for being passionate & loyal for the Leafs?? We're just like ALL other fans, OK?? The Leafs WILL win one again someday.
I can remember this game like it was yesterday...I was 16. I remember wondering why Cheveldae came out so far to cut down the angle and put himself so far out of position. CMUBrent is exactly right; that was the end of Cheveldae; they picked up Essensa next year...
I also remember Yzerman in an interview saying that he thought this team had the talent to go to the Finals...bit of stretch but they were good that year.
The Greatest Leaf Goal Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!! 93 was the year, fuck Fraser, Gretzky and Bettman!!!! RIP Mr. Burns, you were the Best Leaf's Coach Ever!!!!!!
@Kerkopes actully this started an era of the leafs constantly finishing near top of the conferance, and always in the playoffs. something they rarely did in the 80s.
i remember watching this game at a buddys' house who happened to be a Wings fan and when the Leafs scored in overtime i could'nt help but jump for joy. needless to say he was not very impressed and threw me out........ lol
I remember I was going nuts in my living room when Borchevsky scored. It's a shame this small guy only lasted a few short seasons. He always seemed like some lucky kid who got a chance to live out his childhood dream to play in the NHL. Short, looks like 100lbs soak and wet and would make you nervous when ever someone hit him in the board thinking it killed him. I'm digressing.
The Gilmour years were much better than the Sundin years for me personally.
It did. I was there. Luckily, we've had many good memories since, which helps us forget the tough losses. I love this rivalry, and it always hurts a little more losing to Toronto. Wish we played each other more often, like in the old days.
@mistrbrwn It did. I was there, and first seeing the Leafs tie it late, and then win it in OT was heartbreaking. Shawn Burr made a great play to get the puck out, then went to the bench. Bad idea. Leafs got the puck back in, and before Burr's replacement could get into the play, the puck was in the net. Plus Koharski didn't call 1 penalty against the Leafs all game. Wings pp scored 4 goals in game 6. Too bad Leafs got screwed against L.A. in game 6. Leafs/Habs final would've been epic!
On May 1, 1993, the Leafs nation made a roar that you could hear from coast to coast! Once they defeated the Red Wings in Overtime in game 7, this Leafs team were something else.
I'll never forget watching this game, my dad jumped around for joy like crazy. The game is a true classic and it definately did mark the begining of a new era.
This was Cole in his prime - it was a few years after this where he started to age a bit and lose his touch....but at the peak of his abilities, he was one of the best ever.

you got it, sir...and how many of those cups were won while you were on earth? NO Stanley Cup Finals appearances in 40 years since the original six era ended, damn that is almost impossible
Nick you stupid dick, Leafs are one of the best teams in the league and they currently have 2nd most Stanley Cups won in the entire NHL, so don't talk shit
1993 leafs were the best team in the nhl, flat out and simple and would have destroyed the habs like they did in the regular season. Unfortunately it was out of their hands with mr fucking fraser.
As big as a Leafs fan as I am I highly doubt we'd have beat MTL. I'd have love to have seen that series though. 100th Stanley Cup should have been Toronto vs Montreal.
I know this is only the highlights of this game, but still. You get odd-man rushes, physical play, goals, and two arch-rivals battling each other to the end.

only because they throw the other team's gane off so bad. It is a known fact that the toronto maple leafs have the biggest fan bases in cities other than toronto. Best Crowd In The World Baby!
I turned 5 on game 4 of the LA series, and i can remember going to kindergarten almost every day wearing my leafs jersey during the 93 and 94 playoffs, dam i miss these days

Great rivalry. I remember a bunch of the regular season games going to OT, usually ending with a Clark bullet top-corner. Now with the current schedule we're lucky to see the Red Wings once a year. Stupid, stupid Bettman.
wow...i never hear bob cole so excited anymore. not even close to this. if only the leafs made the playoffs more often, he might sit on the edge of his seat again.

Of all the things I hate Bettman for, and there are many, the thing I hate him for most is taking away the Detroit-Toronto rivalry.
It really is not fair to the fans of these two storied franchises.
