There is shitloads of dodgy stuff coming from everywhere, Asia in general. I've thought about this many times, and still I also admire what China has achieved capitalistc, from another point of view - Being a country with just it's story to rely on to become the most powerfull singlehanded nation out there. With the development they have had the last decade, it's bound to pop up alot of shit.
Yeah, there's some pretty intense competition amongst Chinese manufacturers to win supply contracts. When price becomes the overriding factor in the awarding of these contracts, you can generally expect that every measure will be employed to cut cost, sometimes at all costs...
I have been wanting to take on China for a while, we get the good dodgie stuff, wait till you buy crap in China. Butter made from sewege, roast rat, DVD player with no player etc etc.
Mmm, it's a large target that's for sure! Interestingly, during my research travels I discovered that the minimum contaminant concentration requirements to adhere to than Australian or US manufacturers. What's lacking though, is any enforcement of these restrictions...
That said, I'm genuinely horrified by the thought of "Golden Spread" being made from "Golden Shower", though not surprised :-)
Yeah, and try finding clothes not made in China (or parts near by), which I find odd cause until the birth rate restrictions in China it would seem most of the Chinese time was spent out of clothes....
