Here is my opinion on this matter...i agree with prabhupada. it is not fair to a life to have to be consumed by another. but the sad truth is, our cells can only reproduce by consuming other cells. in my eyes there is no justice in nature. i know it is a life cycle thing, but it sucks! so heres the solution...replicate meat for consumption (scientists), then we can eat all the meat we want guilt free! do i have to think of everything?

Their is natural law that stops humans from eating whatever they want to eat. Their are only consequences. For example if I was allergic to meat I would choose not to eat meat for fear of it's consequences. If I wasn't allergic to meat and it did me no harm then I would choose to eat it. Wow this video seriously makes me consider becoming a vegetarian. My concern though is that what if eating meat benefits our muscle development in a way that you cannot get from other food sources? I guess I have been raised to believe that everything in moderation (besides coffee, alcohol, drugs, OTC and other) is okay and that it is good for your body to constantly be changing up what you eat. I can honestly say that I crave beef sometimes but do not eat it often.

yes i agree. Do you ever notice people who use their hands and movement to help focus their minds when they communicate? This is actually a magicians trick and work. Well when eating fruits, you are not killing the whole entire tree, the apples for example are by-products of the tree, and therefore could be eaten. The vegetables like potatoes also are by products-thus no killing involved and legitimately should be eaten, as for when animals are killed you are killing the animal for you taste buds, there is no question of by-products while eating flesh i.e. beef, chicken, pork, etc.
Plants aren't necessarily killed when you eat their grains, vegetables, fruits, etc. Plants have the unique ability of regeneration. Animals do not. Ultimately, Hinduism and Jainism are concerned for the welfare and right to life that all living beings are entitled to. Ahimsa, the principle of nonviolence, applies to all sentient creaures.

almost all plants that people eat, do not require the death of the plant. fruits and vegetables come from trees and plants that remain and continue to produce.
grains however are harvested after they are dead. so we do not kill them to harvest.
so with a vegetarian diet, there is minimal killing. if we eat meat, we have to firt grow grains to feed the cows, then kill the cows to eat them. not a very efficient use of land, or resources.

I've eated meat for 18 years, and when I started thinkin about leaving it, I thought it was impossible. One day I thought: This is my life, I control my self, then why is it impossible? There's nothing impossible!
What helped me to stop eating meat was the realization that I was participating in their mistreatment from birth to death and knowing the horrible treatment they receive in factory farms I couldn't honestly be part of this system.

I don't think we should begrudge a hunter who kills a wild animal, if the hunter depends on the flesh of that animal to sustain himself and his family. On the other hand, I never really thought about the logic of keeping a cow as opposed to killing it. It certainly makes sense to maintain a cow for it's dairy products, especially since it is necessary for so many people in the world to conserve those sorts of animals that provide nourishment and sustenance.

It is a fact that more food can be generated by keeping the cow alive using it's milk, cheese and butter products than by it's one-time use of it's corpse meat. There is no scientific justification. Therefore, in the Puranas we find certain instructions that say in essence, "All right, if you want to eat meat, just worship the goddess Kali and sacrifice a goat for her. Only then can you eat meat. You cannot eat meat just by purchasing it from the butcher shop. No, there must be sacrifice or restriction." In order to sacrifice a goat to the goddess Kali, one must make arrangements for a certain date and utilize certain paraphernalia.
That type of puja, or worship, is allowed on the night of the dark moon, which means once a month. There are also certain mantras to be chanted when the goat is sacrificed. The goat is told, "Your life is being sacrificed before the goddess Kali; you will therefore be immediately promoted to the human form." but if a goat is sacrificed to the goddess Kali, he is immediately promoted to the human form. The mantra also says, "You have the right to kill this man who is sacrificing you." The word mamsa indicates that in his next birth, the goat will eat the flesh of the man who is presently sacrificing him.
This in itself should bring the goat-eater to his senses. He should consider, "Why am I eating this flesh? Why am I doing this? I'll have to repay with my own flesh in another life." The whole idea is to discourage one from eating meat.
no Swami Prabhupada said that to be Krishna conscious you must not eat any flesh, but if you feel that you must eat flesh then you should eat the flesh of a lower animal.

Here is my opinion on this matter...i agree with prabhupada. it is not fair to a life to have to be consumed by another. but the sad truth is, our cells can only reproduce by consuming other cells. in my eyes there is no justice in nature. i know it is a life cycle thing, but it sucks! so heres the solution...replicate meat for consumption (scientists), then we can eat all the meat we want guilt free! do i have to think of everything?

For example if I was allergic to meat I would choose not to eat meat for fear of it's consequences. If I wasn't allergic to meat and it did me no harm then I would choose to eat it. Wow this video seriously makes me consider becoming a vegetarian. My concern though is that what if eating meat benefits our muscle development in a way that you cannot get from other food sources? I guess I have been raised to believe that everything in moderation (besides coffee, alcohol, drugs, OTC and other) is okay and that it is good for your body to constantly be changing up what you eat. I can honestly say that I crave beef sometimes but do not eat it often.

I don't care one bit what "the Pope" said I only care what The Torah says and in that God gave us certain MEATS to eat (Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14). I do as it says and only eat the clean meats as should every Christian. He gave these meats to eat and by not doing so is an insult. You also have to seriously question the motives of a supposed leader of a faith who advises against the Word of God. Spend your time reading the words of God (Bilbe) not the words of man. The Bible has many quotations against meat-eating as can be seen from the following: "But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it." (Genesis 9.4-5) Certainly we can see in this verse that no one was meant to live by eating the flesh and blood of others.

yes i agree. Do you ever notice people who use their hands and movement to help focus their minds when they communicate? This is actually a magicians trick and work. Prabhupada does not do it at all, but the 'father' does. The Hare Krishna's teach to do nothing for sense gratification, and I believe that is what this is. Your body isn't made for meat. There is no reason to kill and eat animals. They have individual souls. We can make a choice in what we eat, so let's do it consciously. You can't reach a higher consciousness when you eat heavy foods, your body is then more concentrated on digestion, and less on consciousness and non-violence.

i appriciate what Prabhupada is saying i am with him on all he said..although i am starting to think milk and its products are NOT ok,i still drink milk but millions of cows are being slaved for their milk,and when they cannot produce milk anymore they are slaughtered..where do the Hare Krsna's stand with this issue?..surely God does not condone suffering of any kind,we can survive without milk the same way we can survive withoput meat..can someone answer this please..with respect

Well when eating fruits, you are not killing the whole entire tree, the apples for example are by-products of the tree, and therefore could be eaten. The vegetables like potatoes also are by products-thus no killing involved and legitimately should be eaten, as for when animals are killed you are killing the animal for you taste buds, there is no question of by-products while eating flesh i.e. beef, chicken, pork, etc.

Plants aren't necessarily killed when you eat their grains, vegetables, fruits, etc. Plants have the unique ability of regeneration. Animals do not. Ultimately, Hinduism and Jainism are concerned for the welfare and right to life that all living beings are entitled to. Ahimsa, the principle of nonviolence, applies to all sentient creaures.

Prabhupada is quite clear that one should first offer foods they eat to God (Christ, Krnsa, you pick) and then you symbolically accept what remains. It is this offering (called pradasam) that cleanses what little offense is created by the comparatively small amount of life in plants vs., say, a cow or pig run through a slaughterhouse. c'mon surely you can see the difference between a carrot and a cow?..is it not obvious?..if alien lifeforms bred humans in farms,you would think of them as malevolant would you not?..i would..we dont need to eat meat at all,its just a luxury and not an essential,maybe times of old meat was an important part of the human diet but we should be starting to see that all sentient life is of value

ahhh, good question.
almost all plants that people eat, do not require the death of the plant. fruits and vegetables come from trees and plants that remain and continue to produce.
grains however are harvested after they are dead. so we do not kill them to harvest.
so with a vegetarian diet, there is minimal killing. if we eat meat, we have to firt grow grains to feed the cows, then kill the cows to eat them. not a very efficient use of land, or resources.

No, we do not have to eat meat, the urantia book says adam and eve did not, they knew the combination of fruits and nuts to equal the nutrients in meat. It says the inhabitants reverted back after... read the book

I think the man is still an animal cause the man kills another being just like an animal. The only thing that differentiates man from animals and plants is his higher intelligence. Hej! Thank's for this videos! I am really enjoying these! I think myself as Open minded. And the Krishna movement is very simpatic for me.I ve read books, I became vegetarian, I stopped drinking, smoking. I see things different now. But I am not part of any religion. Jesus said "thou shalt not kill", murder means killing a human, killing means killing! In Genesis there is no mention of God wanting animal killing. "He that killeth an ox is as if he killeth a man" sorry,(other) not exact. Do you have a cat or a dog that you love? would you happily slit its throat yourself and eat it tomorrow? if not why not. I am not being mean, this is just the way people think that care about all of Gods creation. I love the cat, dog, pig, sheep and cow etc all the same.

if God knew about the suffering of these animals, I am pretty sure he would rewrite the bible as God is a man of love of compassion. You can not apply that to today's animal cruelty in slaugther houses and factory farms. Its ironic to love God and turn your blind eye on such horror. Use your common sense.

Some pretty interesting pieces of work were "deleted" from the official "Bible" cannon, not by "The Hand of God", but by very flawed human beings like you and me. Untold thousands in many original Christian sects were simply murdered by the most powerful sect of them all, the one that melded with government at that time. Therefore, if the answer is "eating meat", then one is asking the wrong question. In other words, humans are so removed from a proper God consciousness, they create themselves an environment where it is conceivable that some might be very low on food, and therefore face the dilemma of eating flesh or starving. But invariably this is the consequence of unGodly actions like war, famine (of which 99% is govt. made) etc. Live in God's Harmony = abundance!

Too bad there's not more of the discussion. It would seem to me one benefits from asking the question, "what then is man's ultimate objective and purpose on earth?" If it is for fulfilling one's potential to be with God, then the answer becomes clearer. The problem is too many many humans are concerned primarily with material self-gratification.

It is so "new" to you on first hearing compared to everyone around you, especially like me living with a meat eating parent. People around me bullied me because i started to see the truth, because i didn't want to harm animals. What helped me to stop eating meat was the realization that I was participating in their mistreatment from birth to death and knowing the horrible treatment they receive in factory farms I couldn't honestly be part of this system.

One fact that most people (vegetarians and meat eaters alike) do not realize is that there is not enough fertile land on the planet to support every human if everyone were vegetarian. I'm not anti-vegetarianism, and if you like eating only fruits, bless you... but the facts dictate reality, regardless of a spiritual ideal. There is not enough fertile land to support solely vegetarianism.

To produce 1 pound of meat, it requires far more vegetation, fertile land, AND water than it would to produce a protein-rich crop that can be consumed by humans.

I don't think we should begrudge a hunter who kills a wild animal, if the hunter depends on the flesh of that animal to sustain himself and his family. On the other hand, I never really thought about the logic of keeping a cow as opposed to killing it. It certainly makes sense to maintain a cow for it's dairy products, especially since it is necessary for so many people in the world to conserve those sorts of animals that provide nourishment and sustenance.
