Great vid. Just learning the importance of the major scales and how they apply to soloing. This helps piece together the hard part which is making something listenable from these scales. Thanks a lot!
helps a lot. could you make videos about how to make licks? thats the trouble im having, I can memorize the scales but making them sound like music is where i fail :P
i got a question in regards to the soloing. do you need to end a solo on the same note as the chord you're playing over? like for example, the chord progression goes 1, 5, 6. am i required to end a lick on F#?
Dear aaron. I love you. Thank you so much. Let's start a band. I play piano, guitar, bass, sing, harmonica, drums, bari/tenor/alto/soprano saxes. Let's hang out and jam lol
Haven't gone to the site yet.. Just want to say again THANK YOU ! I am pretty killer in "The Box" but you [ And David from Next Level] are helping me play all around the neck. It wanna rip all the way up and down the neck and you are showing me the building blocks that I need to get there............Do I need to know each note on the guitar just by looking at the neck?
@TheJetfighter666 hey again bro. no, you dont need to know every note off the top of your head, but learning how to find the notes is very impt. i'd love to help more and give you guidance. check out Ask Aaron in my Lessons Services area the site.
Thanks for the lesson. I know how to use the major scale in constructing solos but it doesn't sound fit in the song. Now I know how to construct solos using right notes. Thanks.
@odnumledable your welcome. check out my site, AaronsGuitarLessons com, for more lessons and also my Ask Aaron subscriptions in the Lesson Services area to get more help from me! :)
You are a good teacher. Thank you .You make it easy to follow. I use next level a lot but I think I'm gonna start watching you a lot more. I have recorded and played on stage for over 30 years but now I wanna be a great LEAD player as well as rhythm player.Keep up the great lessons. Thanks again !
@TheJetfighter666 awesome dude! yeah check out my site, AaronsGuitarLessons com... its actually being redone right now and the new site will be up and going in just a few weeks. Check out my Lesson Services too, like my Ask Aaron Subscriptoins, and the Live Webcam Lessons. i think you'll like it. later.
I was looking for more jazz improvision methods, but this was really helpful! Kinda seemed like it was more for rock/metal but your teaching method was easy to understand and quite beneficial, thanks!
good question... as long as you stay in the scale, it doesnt matter chords they play. check out my lessons called Building Solos on my website, aaronsguitarlessons com, in the lead guitar section. thanks.
@ultimateyoong hey bud the different chords do matter, the chord of the moment sets all the rules so you can either play the scale or focus on the chord tones of the chord being played at the moment the easiest way is is to focus on the triads mainly the A shape , D shape, E Shape all movable which gives you all the chords you will ever need the best part is they are all in the same order 5 on top 1 or root in the middle 3 on bottom (513)
hmm! i've been hearing about the triads alot. I'm trying to understand that part. Does that mean play the third note of THAT particular chord? abit confused
all 12 notes are playable , just not when you want to timing is an issue , If you learn the E , A , D triads and their duplicates which form the caged shape. the G shape is really the A shape 2 frets back and the C shape is really the D shape 2 frets back is why i said focus on those 3. So say you have an A minor chord , right off you know not to play the 3 but flatten it by one semi tone , but now you need to see that one chord as the entire fretboard using all 3 shapes
So basically if you know where the 1,3,5 are of any given chord, a 7chord or a 9 or a 13th wont be an issue because if you know where the 1 is which is also an 8 you know where the 7 is one semi tone below , or a 2 which is also a 9 one whole step from the 1, you can use the 3 to find the 2 / (9) as well or the 4 and you can use the 5 to find the 6 or the 4 .Its just the 1,3,5 is home base so you dont lose your bearings but again all 12 notes are playable
so how do we know where all these are by the ......( W,W,H,W,W,W,H ) equals ( 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 ,8/1..repeat ) so as the chord changes during a progression you can now see the entire fretboard as the one chord... but i would also encourage you to see how the key of the song / scale weather your using its major scale / pentatonic... how it relates to the chord tones and being able to move fluidly thru both mind sets has been my goal..
nice lesson... im still learning the major scale just finished learning minor and harmonic minor, and this lesson was a good way to break me into ideas for major solos
Pattern 1-3-4, 1-2-4, 1-3-5... what notes are you hitting on that scale? what you say does not match what you do. 1-3-5 is 6 notes? which ones? then you repeat it and its 5 notes... you play good dude, but your explanation are pretty bad...
you are obviously not understanding the lesson at all. at what times in the video are you getting confused? let me try to help you better understand it. you can email me if you'd like at my site, aaronsguitarlessons com. talk then
i love the finger technique
