  • i ain´t got blood in my veins i just got the four lanes of hard amarillo highway

  • i ain´t got blood in my veins i just got then four lanes

  • LOOKIN FOR HIS SONG ABOUT FILLEN UP THE TRUCK, HEADEN TO MEXICO AND MONDAYS ALWAYS MAKE HIM BLUE... IS THAT REK?

  • why did he censor out shinner bock

  • @cappsoutlaw

I think he needed a breath, this takes a lot of air. Also, he typically will say "Pearl Beer" in that spot.

  • @ballisticchops The Terry Allen lyrics have "Pearl Beer" in that spot...I've heard several other versions of this from REK, and he's said "Shiner Bock" before, but he typically pauses there. I think the idea is to let the crowd shout their favorite Texas brew at that point.

  • @lilbugler

Funny you say that. I prefer Shiner Bock to Pearl, so that's what I say when I sing it.

  • damn i wish i could get some lonestar but i'm in nc

  • Great cover by Robert Earl of a great song by a great artist, Terry Allen, from Lubbock!

    *¬◊

  • Terry Allen wrote this and his studio version is the best. REK does great justice to this awesome Lubbock, TX artist's song.

  • im from amarillo and i still love this song and TEXANS are the best no question

  • Reckless Kelly and Mickey and the Motor Cars are actually Idaho boys. Used to go watch their dad and his brother (The Braun Brothers) sing around here (SE Idaho)

  • @jeffmaylor Please enlighten as to how this song is semi-UnAmerican...

  • Where's REK's "Screw you, we're from Texas"?

  • @grumpyz82 You mean Ray Wylie Hubbard?

  • @grumpyz82 pretty sure screw you is ray wylie hubbard

  • @grumpyz82 thats ray wylie hubbard that sings screw you were from tx

  • Yep no CCR and no Reckless Kelly or Mick and the Motor Cars, probably not even Roger Creager... I love REK, bu tI love RK even better!

  • @Ms5oh I will add that I don't like any REK unless it is live or acoustic, his studio recorded cds.... not so much!

  • Good version... but NOTHING compares to Lubbock's very own Maines Brothers

  • is it me or could Ron White be his brother!

  • Comment removed

  • it's the hair

  • 'Tis True...Same Area Texas Accent...possibly even some DNA in common, too...just a reputation we have in tha South...LOL !!!

  • no, ron white is a douche

  • @shagin4x4waggon I so agree with ya!!

  • @nikkisue28 I'd say the original is best, u can't beat Terry Allen.....

  • He's gotta be a class guy coverin' Terry Allen! Well done.

  • probably the greatest show ever been gave!

  • This is a nice, rockin'-fast version of Amarillo Highway. I do, however, like the Terry Allen version far better.

Allen's version has more punch, with the churning piano, bass, congas, drums....it's a masterpiece.

  • Good ole Maines Brothers song. If you don't play amarillo highway you haven't played texas country. Close as I'll get to heaven is makin speed up ole 87 that hard amarillo highway.

  • Robert used to play at a bar at Preston Wood Mall called the Mucky Duck. I think he and I vaguely knew each other at Texas A&M as I owned a seat at the Dixie Chicken. My drinking career ran out of time or he and I would have probably gotten to know each other well. You could watch him from 5 feet away at that bar. Nothing like good Texas music.

  • in amarillo,

    it's so flat

    that they say

    on a clear day

you can see the back of your head

  • So very true!

  • please come to Marble Falls.

  • ausome my dad is in that band as the steel gutar player

  • He killed the solo. I've seen them countless times.... all amazing and memorable and all here at home in TEXAS.

  • Killed the solo, hardcorehebe? I thought it was great.

  • I seen them at Billy Bobs last saturday night and I cant wait to go back again....REK

  • Your dad is Marty Muse, awsome. He is a great guy, I've met him many times at shows in NC. My belated regards for the loss of your grandmother.

  • Wow...thank your dad for me. Everyone in the bad is awesome. Need 'em back in Oklahoma, tho'

  • rek is a great songwriter and performer. one thing i really appreciate is his ability to talk and connect with audiences. another great thing is that he doesn't change the vocal melodies on his songs very much for live performances. the instrumentation is inventive enough to stay interesting and fresh but close to the wonderfully-produced originals. he really should get more credit. influencers aren't always as popular as the people that they influence, sadly. pat green is a huge rek fan btw.

  • seen him live and he is a good story teller

  • hey chromesteel1 check out KPFA 94.5 sundays from 9AM to 5PM gr8 country. If i told you its a Berkley CA would it scare ya? Michael Jon

  • the thing that i hate (and yes...i'm using the word hate) is that people get on the internet and say "i miss real country". if you ask me, those individuals refuse to listen to anyone other than the artists GAC and CMT tells them to like! if you really want country, it's out their; you just have to know where to look....aka NOT on GAC or CMT.

  • *there

  • i completly agree with you. the pop-influenced crap on CMT is appaling. it makes me sick!

  • I agree with you completely, and could not have said it better myself, also Rek and willy were "Texas/Americana" music before there was that title

  • Amen brother. Did you see the CMA's? WTF? Kid Rock? Darius Rucker? Lil Wayne? Yea...that is not country.

  • you know....i hate it how anyone could compare anything that has to do with robert earl keen to brad paisley...REK IS KING...there is no doubt that if it wasn't for him there would NOT be a randy rogers band, ccr, stoney, wade bowen....this guy is god....and funny as hell

  • I was about to disagree with you that without REK there'd be no CCR...until I realized that you meant Cross Canadian Ragweed and not Creedence Clearwater Revival haha!

  • I made the same initial mistake lol

($0.25 into the pun tax fund)

  • @hollistermodel25 what?? man, fuck brad paisley.

  • A couple of my faves by REK are Over the Waterfall and I'll Be Here for You.

  • I don't know if I like Terry Allen's original version better, they're both great.

  • Amarillo in the H.O.U.S.E.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw Matt Martindale (Coodergraw) do a really good version of this at the Golden Light here in Amarillo years ago.

    Very nice upload, thanks!

  • Ya i dont really like this guy but his banjo player is awesome.

  • That's Danny Barnes on th Banjo, and he is fantastic!

  • If you don't like Robert Earl Keen, you must be nuts.I will gladly roast you as a Chestnut this Christmas.

  • Great showman/writer! But I still miss Bryan Duckworth on the swing fiddle.

  • Terry Allen wrote it but the Maines brothers play it well.

  • R E KEEN RULES!!!!!

  • there's a girl in her barefeet asleep in the backseat and the trunk's full of pearl beer and lone star....great line even though he now only says lone star. he looks like hell nowadays but he still is about the best live performer i've seen in years. mike brotherton is a kick ass guitar player~

  • Rich Brotherton...the Augusta fireball.

  • No doubt. he really is one of the most under-rated guitarists on the circuit. He has fingerspeed that rivals Vaughan (No disrespect, RIP brother). Kinda remins me of Brad Paisley.

  • Wow. Nice call on the Paisley thing now that I think about it.

  • Terry Allen's original in untoppable, but you gotta tip your hat to anyone with the taste and wit to cover it.

  • Thanks for posting this. I like the original song by Terry Allen better, but this is good too.

  • Robert Earl Keen!!! One of the great, great American songwriters - and what a kick ass band! Nobody brings it harder.

  • Sweet. Much thanks for the tunes.
