I made a stern mount for my Topper like the one in the vid, but its not as good as the one in your video. How/where do you get this mount?? Its the one thats connected to the traveler eyes and passes behind the boom. How do you make it?
first song is Kurban-Gelme,second is Bring me to life-Evanescence,third is Shades Apart-Tainted love, but I dont know the last song, can any one write its name?

Youre not supposed to let your but go for a swim! (1:41) Outhaul may be a bit loose. The sail foot should be drum tight in heavy air. (2:46) I dont ever keep the vang too tight. When Im going to weather, pulling in the main will pull the boom downthats the time you really need it. I never took those multiplier vangs too seriously. Looks like he has some big time whether helm. (1:52) Maybe he should reef. But thats just my opinion after Laser sailing since the 70s
well when you say the sails foot should be tight how can you do that without having the vang tight *which i would recomend*and never reef a laser *if you can* because it disrupts airflow which yes it shoud but to an extreme and can disbalance the boatand since you've been sailing them since the 70's i dont know if you race but you should and least me open to newer tech like a multiplier vang
@gpcast Yes, but in heavy air, you could compromise the gooseneck in a blow if the vang is to loose. Tightening it will give you a flatter sail & less twist IMO.
Unless the wind is too much for you to handle... ( you don't want to broach constantly) it's okay not many novice sailors get that until you have your bronzeV (canadian level) or your instructors. letting the air spill out works perfectly fine.
I am an instructor, in survival conditions the Vang wouldnt be quite as tight as heavy wind race setting becuase otherwise when you let off the sail you'l bend the boom. But it should be as tight as you can get it get away with.
hey I've sailed a laser before, but not in really high winds, and I weigh around 145 lbs. I was wondering some techniques (besides sheeting out) that I could do to keep the boat flat for 15 knots and plus. Also whats a good weight to get to to properly sail those things in high winds
I sail in the limburg sailing team (limburg is a province in Belgium)Laser sailing rules extremely and 49er to. What are the names of the songs? Unfortunatly I don't have vids but maybe they come next summer :p
I mostly sail keel boats (30 feet and up), on the coast between Norway / Sweden, so the Laser is something I do outside the normal sailing season. I keep it on Norway's largest lake, the Mjøsa. But I'm moving to the coast next year and will join the Laser club in Soon.
Yeah I never said it was easy, but it can be done. When you are under recommended weight, you have to work that much harder at keeping the boat flat, and pay close attention to tuning. Honestly, I never noticed a lot of difference between a radial and a full rig, as long as the boat was set up correctly. Lots of tension on the outhaul, vang, and cunningham are important.
Im 10stone and sail a full rig and can handle it in pretty much anything the weather decides to throw at me, just takes determination, good boat handling and stamina.
lol i love lasers but toppers are fun 2 sail some times we hbit each other i ours head on when we go sailing and make each other capsize but lasers rock
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
extreme laser sailing, there isn't really such a thing, B14, RS800's, 505's, phantoms and contenders, now their extreme. A lasers not really much more than a piece of gymnasium equipment
Ah, been years since I've done that... used to sail lasers and butterflies in the all-lake regatta, Walloon Lake. Best times of my life. I was tiny back then, so I had to practically let my head brush the waves to keep it upright.
I think the dude with the radial rig doesn't even try to keep his boat flat... :) he'd be much faster if he did so. not only by hiking but by letting the sheet go a little.

when your sailing upwind in heavy air, if your not able to keep the boat flat you can depower the sail by:
1: cranking on your downhaul
2: cranking on your vang (your boom should make a smiley face shape)
3: and hiking like hell
remember a flat boat is a fast boat
and 145lbs is a pretty good weight for radials
hope that helps =)
ruffus37 2 years ago
remember loosening your boom-vang de powers your sails do that first. It will let air spill out
LCstewart 2 years ago
NONONONONONO the windier it gets the more vang you need, hard as it will go upwind and loosen it off as much as you dare downwind.

I'm 165 lbs. and i have a hard time holding down a full rig laser in 15+ knots. just slam on your rigging and let some sheet out and hike like hell.

I weigh about 110, im just a kid, but with some practice i can keep speed up with the boat not heeling dangerously

You would probably fit better with a Radial!
I weigh 60 kilos and there's NO WAY I could handle a Standard. Ever tried a Radial?

Where do you sail?

Full rigs aren't that hard to handle. I used to sail one when i only weighed about 110 pounds, and was able to keep it under control in heavy air
mikear4318 3 years ago
My friend had one but he was always capsizing in heavy wingd and he is a good sailor and he weighs about the same as you!

If you weigh less than that, you don't have a dinghy, you have a bath toy. Or in any case, that's what the Laser is!
A ferociously fast, amazingly fun bath toy. There's no way to avoid getting wet!
Especially if it's a little bit too large for you...
I'm glad I have a radial.
