  • who would wish to invade Irak when it is sung like that ? !

  • AWESOME

  • amazing!!

  • schön! Sehr schön! beautiful! very beautiful!

  • simply incredible

  • Such love and sincerity from the heart! A beautiful and heartfelt duet between father and daughter. She carries a part of him in her heart, in her voice and gave him the best honor by singing with him. Thank you so much for posting this beautiful rendition of the song, which is by far the best! God bless you. :)

  • Goosebumps down my spine

  • Words can not adequately describe this video. Thanks for sharing.

  • She is Fine...hmm!

  • Awesome!!!!

  • this version makes my eyes water....so emotional! Great job

  • Wow, that was great!!

  • Gives me chills every time I watch it

  • So beautiful!!

  • She looks so much like him, but sadly thats where the comparison must end sweetie.

  • she looks like him.

  • she could not do anything with this song, her daddy just rocked it so, til she sound bad compared to him.

  • Most beautiful and creative version I've ever heard of this. Gorgeous.

  • I've heard the whitney houston, and I love the marvin one way better, in my opinion the best rendition of it, cuz he really had his own style with his it wus amazing

  • loving this duet. beautiful voice Nona. wish ur dad was still alive. beautiful voice Marvin Gaye forever remembered.

  • sorry but her dad is 20 times better than her

  • 15 people have lost the 2004 ASG

  • This is a beautiful tribute to her father! OMG, it had me in tears! Marvin Gaye's version of the Star Spangled Banner is by far the BEST version a celebrity has ever done. He definitely opened the door and set the trend for artists to put there own spin on that song. Thanks for sharing this video.

  • @Spanki925 he tied with Whitney Houston

  • I beg to defer, Marvin Gaye delivered a grand National Anthem. However lest we not forget Whitney Houston's rendition in 1991 !! CLASSIC !!

  • @Spanki925 for realz...I was home getting ready to watch the game when he strutted out and knocked it out of the park!

  • The truth was reviled that day... Marvin Gaye was one of a kind,is own categories. He remixed the American anthem and delivered with Class and keep it true. As a French Canadian ho couldn't care less about the American...Of all the performance for an anthem. this was the best of all.I cant get enough!

    R.I.P. Mr Gaye

  • @Manuel1122 indeed. RIP Marvin Gaye.

  • @Manuel1122 and believe it or not this was used in the 2008 Nike commercial, Manuel1122. Try searching for that Nike commercial here on YouTube.

  • 14 people have no SOUL!

  • WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the national anthem you play at the club.

  • Mr. Gaye, may he rest in peace, is one of the few singers (besides Marion Anderson) who could deliver this song the way he did. I loved that man and I still cry sometimes remembering the day my God-daughter tells me on April Fool's that it wasn't a joke, that he was dead. What a waste of a beautiful star.....RIP and thanks for uploading.

  • Gets me choked up EVERY time i watch this! I LOVE this rendition!

  • quickkk question is singing a genetic, because rohan marleys daughter i think selah *is her name* also lauryn hill's daughter she can sing.... I can sing because all my aunts and suchhhh can sing *i believe*. and nona gaye can sing. n her father can sing... a bunch of celebs 2. i'm just tryina find out

  • @jrst6 Kids are prone to mime what their parents do, successful or not. Singers can probably teach their kids many tips few people know, themselves at their kids' age included. Let alone the networks for those who aim at the industry. Before going into genetics - there surely are for some features of the vocal chords - you have to weigh up the social part which looks much more important.

  • @jrst6 Anyone can sing... but quality is the hard part...

  • Marvin made the National Anthem sexy!!

  • that was hot!!!

  • hnkjjjjnnhhjjmkgaafffaffgbnjhhjjfjjjjll;;;;lljjjhyhnbhjnhjhjjjjjhkmgkbgbggghbghjoggyyyyjjjhjhhmjhjhhjjnghjhjhjyghtyu uuuiiyjhmjkkhhhnmhnhgbjghjufhnbgytyukifkgjgnjgjkjgjgkkjjgjgjggggg

  • Most incredible duet since Natalie Cole performed with Nat in 1990. On another note, Nona foyne! Watching this, part of me wanted to cry, part of me wanted to kiss her.

  • T

There is nothing to be said its just marvelous MARVIN luv him!!!!! denise

here is nothing else to be said MARVIN is super fantastic!!!

  • Woah......

  • You know, regardless of his troubles in life one must truly appreciate a great talent like Marvin Gaye. We, I hope most of us Americans, had the great opportunity to hear just a bit of his musically vocal greatness before his passing. Rest in Peace my brother in God name. Who knows what great scores of music we would have now-if only he was still here............

  • this is so specail the way and effertlessness that mr gay sang and nona sings so great with her dad it touchess my heart everytime i listened to this song rip marvin gaye and nona enjoy

  • I don't know how she did it. I would have cried the whole time. Daddy :(

  • Legendary......nearly 3 decades later NIKE used this in one of their clips. How many renditions of the anthem had peeps going crazy throughout the song? Marvin was the first and last and the fact we still talk about this rendition so many years later...says it all. RIP Marvin Gaye.

  • @MrVegasVince well said son...well said!!

  • i think i could almost make love to this rendition, it's soooo good

  • How did he do it? Will anybody ever know. He just had that something special nobody else had. And it was just who he was. But this is still leaves me wondering, how? This is soooo special.

  • PRESENT, ARMS...!!!

  • Loving Marvin forever and I have to love his daughter too. Thanks for posting this:-)

  • This in many ways had to be very difficult for Nona to do, knowing her father did what is still considered by many to be the best rendition of the National Anthem ever done 21 years earlier in 1983 (even if Whitney Houston's 1991 rendition at Super Bowl XXV in January 1991 was actually released as a single and went to #1).

  • The 13 people who dislike this video are deaf and blind.

  • It doesnt get any better than this, Marvin and daughter Nona singing together! Amazing!!!

  • Her skin is AMAZING o_0

  • Wow! I don't see how she could hold her composure so well. What a special moment. I didn't really like the version with just Marvin, but this was just beautiful.

    What a lovely lady.

  • Marvin mic and micstand should be in the Smithsonian!

  • one of the better re-intrepretations. Somehow always more inspiring when a minority sings it

  • Marvin>Marvin & Nona>Just about everyone else.

  • Nice!

  • its so cool how she gets to sing along with her father. its so special and a very nice song

  • Wow a beautiful National Anthem !!!

  • Marvin, my love... one of the best, I think...

  • Damn, she is hot.....

  • @sixstrings2 Damn! She IS hot!

  • I thought the original Marvin Gaye was the best until I stumbled upon this version.

    This is very smooth...............

  • The Greatest!

  • 2 months ago. Someone always has to put politics into everything. Loved it in 83 and still do in 2011. RIP.

  • @artandannette if Marvin Gaye was still alive today, he will release a real pop R&B album and put Bieber, Miley, etc. to same.

  • LOVE THIS

  • Nona is really gorgeous!

  • Smooooooooth as ever!! Makes you wanna just fly to the moon!! Braddah Eds all the way from Hawaii saying mahalo's!! Aloooha!

  • If you're gonna stray away from the original version, this is the only other version I could listen too and not complain about it. It's remarkably smooth and just layed back without getting too dramatic. There are times when I like to listen to the original and dramatic version but this was the All Star Game and it was all entertainment.

  • She is still as beautiful & talented as she was in high school ... we had drama class together at Redondo Union High School .... she was soooo funny . Those were the good ole' days =)

  • >> TO THOSE THAT VOTED THUMBS DOWN TO THIS MASTERPIECE MUST BE FROM THE " PEE PARTY <<

  • Damn she is fine... oh and RIP Marvin lol.

  • ALL I GOT TO SAY IS "WOW"

  • Wow, I thought this was going to be a rip off of the national anthem. Actually, it was pretty tight

  • This is truly a beautiful video with Nona and her late dad Marvin Gaye. She is truly his daughter and blessed with a unique voice.

  • Only Marvin can sing this National Anthem in his own special soulful way - JUST LOVED IT ♥♥♥

Really heartwarming to see his daughter singing it with him. You can tell she is so so proud of her late father - GORGEOUS RENDITION XXX

  • absolutely beautiful!!!!

  • Wow, I thought she was pretty weak. A mediocre back-up singer at best.

  • @qwisp You're so right. How could she not be better? She was only singing the national anthem in front of thousands of people at the NBA all-star with her dead father. Its not like that's a difficult thing to do at all. It is totally out of the question for her to be somewhat emotional or choked up and therefore, not give her best performance. Why don't you show everyone how much better you are, qwisp? (Translation: You're a moron, qwisp. Let's see you do better...)

  • at first listen i was kinda confused as to what they were doing but after listening to it a few more times, i thought it was really good, certainly way better than other versions. myself...i like the faith hill version, but actually...you can pull up many versions and its hard to pick out THE ONE. the reason for that is we have so much talent in EVERY musical genre that making a decision of THE ONE on anything musical is impossible. why you ask? BECAUSE WE ARE AMERICA AND WE FUCKING ROCK!!!!

  • just absolute f...ing BRILLIANT !!!!!

  • Happy 4th of July! Enjoy your day of Freedom and remember all of those who mad it possible!

  • never been an anthem so reverently..Marvin Gaye

  • @drnubian right on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mistake at 2.53, she is not singing. It was pre-recorded

  • NOW THATS WHAT YOU CALL LOVE

  • @ivy3red yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love it so much and it brings tears from my eyes....

  • @MrBlacksteel8 mine too!!!! I wasn't looking for it to be this good!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I was prepared to be disappointed. Marvin is like a god and his rendering was a classic. But Nona did right by him. It was lovely to see him remembered and honored by her. Good job! I'm old enough to remember when Marvin sang it in 1983.

Yeah, Marvin was definitely somethin' special.

  • WOW!! didn't know Nona could sing like that?????? Chip off the old block....

    U go girl!!!!.....Beautiful!!!!

  • @enayb right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I saw this live, and I'm so glad it's posted on YouTube! I got teary-eyed watching it, just like I did when I saw it the first time. Amazing talent, both of them!

  • IT BRINGS A TEAR TO MY EYE EVERYTIME I HEAR HIM SING HE WAS SOOOOO TALENTED AND SO IS HIS DAUGHTER THANKS FOR THE POST!!!!!

  • very special...I get tears every time...I remeber hearing of his death...I was 13 years old and my mom was saying," no can't be tomorrow's his birthday" ... we listened to him so much that he was sort of a part of our family. Wonderful duet! Just Lovely!

  • Makes me one proud American from Hawaii

  • hell yeah fucking awesome....

  • #VIDEOPOSTERID# I'm 5'10 and dunking - I'm awesome haha. How can I jump so high? take a look at (50 inch vertical [dot] com)

Marvin & Nona Gaye - National Anthem (Nba Allstar-Game 2004)

  • This is one of the most heart warming videos I've ever seen. Wow I miss that man. His daughter is wonderful.

  • @vettehead69:

Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer! :-P

  • from all the comments that I read...I know she can hold her own. Furthermore, I never said that you said Ms. Gaye should not have done this...That's your opinion and mine opinion stands.. This is the best rendition of our anthem I have ever heard. I thought the two of them together sounded beautiful.

  • This is just beautiful !

    R.I.P Marvin

  • Happy Birthday Marvin Gaye....sure do miss you!

  • OMG!! Brilliant and beautiful!!!

  • @vettehead69:

As a tribute to her long deceased father. DUH!!!!

  • @palpatine17 Really is that what she was doing??? WOW thanks for clearing that up, now my life makes sense again. WHEW

  • LUV IT

  • So many try ... So many Fail. Marvin could sing the Telephone book and bring someone to tears. No matter how many times I listen it just leaves me in awe. His daughter singing with him was great!! Its nice to know that there is still a part of the man with us today. Where ever you are Marvin ... Thank you.

  • thats was nice and sweet i know its must hurt her to sing this with her father knowing he ant her i know i would be rip marvin gaye we have the sme birth day so i know how it fel i get said on my birthday thinking about him

  • Why would she do that???? its like someone Jordan's kids being compared to him in basketball not fair at all.

  • @vettehead69

If Natalie Cole can sing with her father, why not Ms. Gaye. This has been the best most awe inspiring rendition I have ever heard of our national anthem.

  • @jrlillian I never said that she couldn't do that, she can do what ever she likes. I just said that she shouldn't have done it. When Natalie did it she was able to hold her own. In this one Ms. Gaye can't hold her own.

  • @vettehead69 Ms Nona Gaye is holding fast. Nona's voice is a smooth as Marvin's and she was MAGNIFICENT!

  • that was great

  • My all time favorite rendition of our National Anthem.

  • Jody said it best...Chills.

  • chills, that was great

  • Not fair....Marvin was so cool, so unique such a treasure...Nona, not so much.

  • this is one of best Ive heard of anthem.. too bad the country doesn't stand for what the lyrics say anymore

  • @criticcc ...move to somalia then and then tell me what you think. I'm tired of the NON-world travelers that want to bash the US...it's the worst the country on the planet, except for all the rest. Be proud and if you don't like things, vote, do something about rather than post your cowardly comments on you tube

  • @criticcc absolutely right

  • i love her voice

  • I love basketball. I'm only 5'5 and I'm can dunk! I'm in my high school's varsity team and damn, it impresses the girls, lol. It was really easy for me too, I just took this special jump training program at dunkeasy.notlong[dot]com - anyone can do it.

  • One of the best renditions of the National Anthem EVER! .......RIP Marvin ...you are still missed !!

  • We lost this amazing talent and now Teddy too! G-d I miss those days! Marvin was just soooooooooo incredible with more sex appeal than any performer I have ever seen! There will never be another like Marvin! R.I.P Teddy and Marvin! Hope you are singing together.... both in Heaven!

  • You do realise that Teddy & Marvin hated each others guts. Marvin's 2nd wife Janis was cheating on him with Teddy and Marvin & Teddy became real bad enemies. Teddy was supposed to do a UK tour but Marvin was in the UK at the time & no promoter would even put them in the same country together cos they had such a dislike for each other. I do agree with you though Marvin and Teddy are 2 of my favourite artists of all time. I was just wondering if u knew about their history cos not many people do.

  • Thks. for replying and informing me of this story! Yes I WAS aware of how they both hated each other, but individually, still loved them both! Maybe they really ARE singing TOGETHER IN HEAVEN! :-) BEST RAPSMVP7

  • Thks, for replying and informing me of this story ^

I was aware of how they hated each other, but individually looooved them BOTH! Maybe G-d got them together again in Heaven! :-)

    RapsMVP7/BEST!

  • Legendary soul singer Teddy Pendergrass.

  • non and mar I love you-god bless you

  • Almost 27 years after ...and I still get goosebumps...RIP Marvin you were something special...

  • @jrr2018 ME TOO!!

  • @jrr2018 yes he was and he still is and always will be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This was nice well put and very moving I like it very much never duplicated

  • One of the most moving things I've ever seen and heard

  • I also liked Mo Cheeks' version, when he helped out the little girl.

  • wow Nona! You harmonized it brilliantly. Truly beautiful

  • WOW - Nona! What a beautiful women

  • Marvin Gaye was a genius magnificient, and a outstanding performer I will miss him and I Love him.....!!!!!!

  • Sir Mr. Marvin Gaye was one of the BEST singer's to EVER come down the pike, Period!!!!!!! More Soul then he could control! His daughter is Extremely Beautiful! I had never seen her before. His album entitled, "What's Going On" is a masterpiece in music history, no doubt what so ever!!!!!

  • She is his spitting image.

  • To Nona Gaye, I wish you nothing but the most happy and peaceful life. All the best.

  • I got a lump in my throat listening to this!! This was one of the most emotionally beautiful duets I've evr heard!! It was true class for Nona Gaye to do this tribute to her Late Father Marvin Gaye!! XOXO!!!!

  • Marvin died 1984 when Nona was 10 years old.

  • At least Marvin wasn't lip-syncing in the original! Watch closely! Even so, very awesome!

  • I just got goosebumps

  • Damn my grandmother woulda played this 100 times over. I wish she lived long enough to see this. Wow. RIP Veronica Campbell

  • Omlord your grandmother and my mother have the same first and last name....
