one of the most impressive things i've noticed with this school is that Takeda Shihan's ukes in these demos are very high ranking senseis in their own right (e.g. Seino Sensei in this vid here is 7th dan; Oka Sensei 5th dan) but they are still taking ukemi like young champs! i think this represents great humility and training ethic - to always strive for growth and improvement in one's Aikido regardless of age and rank.
Advanced Aikido becomes very minimalist and requires years of practice. It responds to the Uki and it is very hard to see everything thats going on. Uki is constantly kepted off balance by very slight movements and locks.
@Statek63 yeah, you're probably going to have join the class for anything that remotely even resembles that. and usually these older guys are trying to learn and do something else besides what you described...
@curlywolf ...you're right, my post was a quick comment, out of my curiosity...
I went on to read more about Aikido right afterwards... thanks for the videos, I was interested first in the Iaido/Battojutsu videos and in the Yabusame ones - all simply great. Then I looked at your Aikido posts. Seems you spend a lot of time in Japan...

I never expected to see a video from the Kamakura Budokan. I live about a 10 minute walk from there!

I would really like to see the same demo - but with opponents who are unwilling to follow the kata and who try to mount real attacks..
