  • very difficult to climb are plain trees, they get covered in slime at certain times of the year, there are few branches for a climber to exploit ,the wood is hard and unforgiving on a climbers body, like in oww where did i get those bruises.

    one for the pros.

  • you are the best my friend

  • Great skills Dan !

    Slick as ever.

    should team up again someday.

    enjoy

  • Ever want to come do some days in North London Dan please let me know.

  • Wow Dan your beeches are much bigger than mine inSouth Wales, great video my fellow horticulturalist, David Robbins Tree Surgeon, Tree Service Wales.

Wouldn't have to be the one paying for that tree removal lol, great rope work - keep safe my friend

  • Oh my hero...... with a groundy helmet on lol

  • Dan you obviously didn't need to dismantle in the small sections you did as there was a large drop zone and a 200t would of served you better at the top part but hey as long as you made it look good:)

  • @pulsar46 if you were the groundsman, would you want to lift and drag small or big pieces of beech ?

    we're all wearing pezl now

have you ever used a band aid on a chainsaw injury ?

    better to carry large ffd's

the big saw makes a day on spikes a little shorter

you got any tree vids on youtube ?

  • Why use such big saws? no need. 200T and a saw with a 20'' bar would of done it all. over kill i say. also no chin strap on helmet this bad practice now and no first aid kit on harness.other than all that not to bad...

  • Ex Hackney tree gang supervisor made redundant after 25 years on tree work. seen your tree work in nice safe and in control manner, well done! I love the firewood on the ground one of the perk of the job I use to have.surely miss

  • GOOD WORK

  • I and my son watch this video daily 3-4 times. Thanks for sharing, we love it !

  • ooof why do you used such a big saw while climbing all you need is stihl 170 can be used with 1 hand too

  • I climbed a 30 ft palm today and it was my first time climbing and it was crazy i loved it .made love to anybody that can do this.it made my day.this inspired me aswell bro.

  • You also Inspired me Bro I am going on 2 years and loving this business

  • I wont even ask why you chose a bigger saw than needed

  • Jus wondering why you dropped such small bits when you had a large area to land in?

  • i like your sink cuts and use of ropes, bit excesive the size of saw or no.

good luck and big tree hug from the olifes of south spain.xxx what waswrong with the tree root disease

  • Super!!!

  • Too many pikeys where we live advertising themselves as so called tree surgeons, i have seen them work damm right dangerous, no safety gear kids picking up the branches right under where they are cutting .

  • ms 880 with a 48 inch bar is that?

  • nice work man

    \

  • Dan Holliday is a true professonal.

  • nice job! you took your time and you made it solid, for me i am also a treeworker from the Netherlands; my compliments !

  • That's wat I do

  • I was going to say I hoped you would break out the 84 or the like. Looks a little bigger than an 84...

  • Be up there all day cutting those blocks that small. Easy when you dont have to rope anything. And oh yeah, what took you so long!

  • @Dantheman2010ish upload of a video of yourself doing it better and safer then u dumb twat

  • It was this video that inspired me to become a tree surgeon, I'm now 7 months in as a apprentice and loving it!

  • @Nunfluff , Thats amazing to hear that you chose you career path from watching my video, i never imagined it would inspire people. Just get up trees at every opportunity (even if you know it'll take you longer than others or if its beyond what you've done before) in this business its experience that counts as long as you have a good mentor. Work safe and enjoy yourself.

  • @DanHolliday83 Thanks for the advice man :)

  • @DanHolliday83 Yee man, same! I've just done my CS30 - 31, and am hoping to get my up-in-the-tree course done over the next couple of months. It's so much fun! I love climbing rock and tree anyway and to add chainsawing to that just makes it awesome!

  • @Nunfluff good job you wasnt watching a porno then.you could have been a porn star lol.

  • @Nunfluff ...... how did you manage to start as a tree surgeon. (e.g. college, courses, work), Just asking because i am planning to take the same career path

  • @96sheepy I applied for a apprenticeship with all my local firms, I was lucky enough for one of them to take me on. I would recommend doing the same because its good to see what the job is like first hand before you do your courses, my boss even told me in the past he took someone on who done half of there courses at college but when he starting doing the job he diden't like it and quit. Hope this helps.

  • @Nunfluff fair play mate, you gota bigger balls than me mate i aint got a head for heights lol i bet the money is good!!

  • Four foot, full-skip 88 shows up at 5:00... Suddenly the stem has to support the weight of SIX testicles!

My complements to the dude that keeps that thing rippin' like that!

  • stihl are the BEST!!!

  • above a nice lawn you need to lower slowly or be so talented as to have the piece land flat. No divot that way. That is when u have it down cold. I llove what I do. always looking to improve.

  • that was a big beech. i'd never want to get rid of a tree like that

  • he sucks do that tree over a house now that would be something to see.

  • why is he using a 361 chainsaw for branches why not a 192 or a 200t big saws in trees are dangerous.

  • Nice job. What is the artist on the music that goes with the video? thanks.

  • If the pay was better I'd ditch sixth form and get an apprenticeship for this...

Climbing (my hobby)+ chainsaws.... couldn't ask for a better job!

  • Thanks for posting this awesome video. The production and tree cutting are both incredible, a work of art.

  • do more videos

  • I find it helps to be afraid/wary of heights, it makes sure you check that youre tied in at all times.

  • clean.proper job bud.

  • how can u NOT be be afraid of height like that? :S

  • why u take such a huge blade? its so heavy working with it when ure up in the tree

  • Hi Dan very nice video! been climbing for 2 years now collecting trees under my harness and stories from up high, trained in Myerscough preston, based in south Manchester always looking for more work mate ! message me on here if your short on men, Cheers Arran

  • I'm thinking of gettin into it as well looks quite cool not bad climber either, just wondering if you need to get an apprenticeship or something? or do you just get basic training through a company? or what courses do you need to do?

  • @geezasnout College and proper quals or you won't get anywhere

  • @tommynakagima Where you sexually abused as a child? Or are you just a keyboard warrior? You seem to enjoy trying to put other people down & make yourself feel better. It obviously hasn't worked here. I can guarantee this guy Dan Holliday knows more about tree work than you will ever, Ever know!

Listen neil, I was felling big beech trees in Bagdad when this Dan Holiday guy was in his dads bag, lookin at the vid he lives up to his name and acts like he is on holiday, lucky he's not on peace time

  • @tommynakagima Keyboard warrior? I think you mean gangster, and no i am not a keyboard gangster either. When you can spell properly and use proper words when trying to insult me then i might take notice. Are you in Dan's supporters club? You are clearly a bigger retard than you are letting on, he was using a stupidly big ground saw up the tree knocking the first head out, which was a fair size considering the rest of the sections.

  • so your a hero and the best tree worker in the world then bud! enjoy your 15 seconds

  • Video is ok sept for the bow, and the music... Well gay!!! And do you have to step cut everything?

  • Ahhhhhhhh crap.... The safety rope was still on that log... :-)

  • The base of that tree is as big as a truck!

  • Its good to see the protective gear being worn. I stand a little closer to the tree than you do.

  • nice job.

  • best blocking video ive seen on youtube - very nice work!

  • Very good video and nice tree droping

  • Wonderful work and great video. You have excellent saw control and technique and you SHOULD be producing instructional videos for arborists the world round. Also.. you have some sweet equipment. You seem to share one of my philosophies... and that is " work smart not hard" and their is always an easy or easier way to do it.

    Keep smiling and play safe.

  • thats a badass video homeboy

  • good video mate. What harness are you using?

  • nice block down mate

  • Take that you Fagus gradifolia!!!!

  • is that an 880 ?

  • Dan, I have seen this video before, and to this day I have not seen a better one. Your cuts are precise, I'm impressed. Stay safe and good luck.

  • The ms 880 weighs over 10kg with a bar that big, great work man, hope to get a job that big some day :)

  • How much does that saw weight?

  • Nice video!! You must of had one hell of day.Or...days.

    Really nice job

    Thanks for posting

  • really nice to see this vid this is wat i wana do when older:D

  • very very good video and nice chainsaw´s , it´s a very big tree , nice . i want to climbing at trees wen i was 10 and i bought my now a climbing set it´s a biautivul work.

  • great vid dude, i'm likely to be taking a tree surgery course in merristwood college, guildford very soon. watching this makes it a very daunting prospect. but obviously you have years experience. they wouldnt expect you to climb a huge beech in your first job :)

do you know has there been many accidents in this profession? or is it only the cowboys who injure themselves or worse?

    great work tho

  • I have total respect for someone with this level of skill, experience, and tenacity. I'm a "weekend warrior" arborist, and enjoy anything related to landscaping and tree surgery. Thanks for helping me learn from your good example: I watch and learn and then attempt to put those skills into practice. Great job!

  • nice one bud

  • coooooooollll ^___^

  • hi dan, doing c30 c31,good to watch a real expert,i have been told my partner 35cc,is a piss take, but i said size does not count, its how you use it,be good for your expert advise, keep cutting your the man,if your in west sussex be good to do some training with you, regards dan,pat

  • nice work....

  • it looks like u have over size bars on ur saws man

  • that stihl MS880 must be a beast and heavy to have in the tree with ya.

  • first time i seen someone climb with a saw bigger then a 440. GREAT JOB

  • Nice job !

  • nice follow through cuts....its good to have a machine for pulling.... personally, I never stop my cuts to signal.. my men know by a nod when to apply pressure. When I fell big tops, I cant spare the extra seconds it takes when there could be a wind, or gust....

  • How come your chunking it down in log lengths?

  • Undo your tool strop from your belt before pulling big lumps off save it getting caught n pullin you out

  • @abn831 good eye, but with the bigger saw it looks like he waits to yell pull to his groundman, and has it pulled out before that.... maybe doesnt want to chance dropped his 50 pound saw lol.

  • Comment removed

  • excellent video, thanks for sharing... stay safe all you tree killers lol

  • take it bigger bro taking way toooo long !!!! Mostly at top baby blocks they where

  • did you use that 880 just for the video? iwould if i had one.

  • Nice vid mate

had someone come in by me and fell an old beech

iv been thinking about going into forestry and tree surgery

just a wondering what the pays like and whats the work like iv been looking around and work on estates are popular

yes i have a head for hights and im a kean climber aswell

  • @johndeer7030 Hey mate, I've been in the industry for 8 yrs and really enjoyed it, the money is only really decent for good climbers or if you can start up your own business. To become a decent climber it a couple of years of constant climbing doing a wide range of work.

  • @DanHolliday83 cheers mate

i i love the outdoors and thats the real reason that i wanted to go into the forestry tree surgery

  • @DanHolliday83 Bloody hell what if your scared of heightS?!

  • @johndeer7030 I did ten years in the industry up here in Canada. My advice to people who want to "get in" to the business?.......Put a 45 in your mouth instead. You're welcome.

  • @johndeer7030 roofings better money by far.

  • it's fun to watch a surgeon, only you forgot to scrub up before the operation, dan. wouldn't want to give those trees a nasty infection. haw haw

  • Thats Pretty Cool...!

  • i start a 2 year course in arboriculture in sepember doing all this stuff .. canet wait

  • @TRAXTINKERZ i do aswell but i dunno how. how did you and do you need good grades coz i didnt do ery well in school. i need some help =(

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but thought you should also be using a second point of attachment, even when using steel lanyards according to the new guidelines? But I'd definetly get get a smaller bar for your 880 as well or if you can afford a 660.

  • @Dorian1grey2

Dunno about where he's at..we aren't allowed to use steel lanyards anymore. I'm in Florida though. We don't have thousands of trees the size of the ones he's on.. Needless to say, we're supposed to have two lanyards on at all times while climbing.

  • Why are you using a 088 for that little cut?

  • Come to New England and I'll show you how to take some trees down Homey!

  • seriously why the helll are you cutting this wood down in firewood lengths grow a set!

  • very good climb thats not easy work using a 880 on a lanyard where abouts are you based?

  • mítica stihl

  • Do you just have the one harness?

  • Nice to see a proper English tree and you had great weather to take her down in aswell. The trees down here in Australia allways look half dead compared to back home. This vids enough to make a climber home sick. haha

  • Haha i know what u mean dude with all the gums, i'm doing the same as u, i came out to Oz and been working since december in north Syd. God damn palm trees piss me off.

  • I know what you mean about palms mate. If you work in Northern QLD or the Northern territory the place is rammed with palms, green ants and stupidly humid! needless to say i did 6 months in the Territory and did one. Im down in Mandurah in WA now. A million times nicer working here.

You being sponsored or working holiday?

  • @DanHolliday83 palm trees are fun. not

  • @DanHolliday83 What company did you work for?

  • @DanHolliday83 Im an Australian Arborist and most my work here is palm and Eucs. u have some massive trees over there. how tall was that beech tree?

  • fire wood?

  • I hope someday, I'll be that good...... Stay safe!

  • Thanks dude. stay safe, have fun

  • What a good job!

  • Thanks mate, much appreciated

  • what is this song called?

  • its 'I remember' by Deadmau5

  • Im assuming he is using somewhere around the ms310 18-20 inch bar , now only reason i could reason I can think of for why hes packing such a big guy up there would be beech is a hard wood if i can remember so to save time with the struggle you gotta work a little harder. Just Guessing.

  • cool music and good work. work save xxx

  • great work on that beech

hopefully i will get that good some day

    keep safe

  • Good job Dan stay safe. Dan (Rosewood T/S)

  • Cheers mate, much appreciated

  • nice cushy job there guys! good work.

  • Great to see your work. If you have any questions on All Gear product let us know! Thanks for folowing us.

  • Just because you took it down in so many sections doesnt make it a big tree, and your choice of saw?!? I could have done a whole lot of that with my ms200t and 357xp with 14 and 15 inch bars

  • @TalbotFanMan really! i mean really! i've been in the industry for 10 yrs and that is in the big tree range. what are you trying to be a hero or something!geez. if that isn't a big tree your eyes aint working

  • @gpartrt Sorry, clearly my eyes are not working correctly or i would have noticed there was a bit of sledge hammer breaking a peanut going on. Seriosly, a 125cc saw with 48 inch bar?!? on the last section maybe. why such a big saw to start with up the tree? why such small sections after knocking the last to tops out? I think you are just looking for an arguement. 10 years you say? All one a fuck when you talk shit.

  • Comment removed

  • Easy gentleman, i am an arborists myself and Dan i must say thank you for your video, 88 or 44 whatever.. were you comfortable? yes i bet .. keep on and be safe and men thats all that matters

  • nice

  • very good job!

  • Great video. Nice job on the tree too Dan!

  • I agree with murphy4trees, why all the small cuts with the 361? Good job though.

  • the song is gay by gay balls and the ball suckers

  • At 5:00 I think your guide bar needs to be two or three feet longer. Havin fun ?

  • great vid and what is the song dous anyone know

  • nothing wrong with using an 88 in a tree if you can handle it, the extra power is good to have. You make the top cut of the face first which is good. I think you could have gotten away with cutting the faces a bit shallower, using the pull line... only real criticism is making all those small snap cuts with the 36. Waste of time. if you had room to drop the big logs, you could have cut them a lot bigger and saved time and energy. When you get older, saving energy becomes huge. BIG Tree nice work

  • wow, you made that look easy! I will keep practicing

  • Comment removed

  • we all have our personel preferences to saw sizes. I use a much smaller saw due to weight issues in the tree. Very Nicely done!!! Highly respectable line of work.

  • Comment removed

  • Respect!!! Nice choice of song too.

I think you're job is awesome!

  • Nice job !!...Keep up the good work.

  • Good job. Makes me sad to see such a huge beech fall.

    Beautiful species.

  • running a 880 in a tree that is less than 6 feet in diameter is stupid.

a stihl 460 with a 3/4 wrap handle would have made things much easier.

But hay im no tree surgion, im just a

dumb ass timber faller what would I know about saws & trees??

  • Clearly this guy knows what he'd doing....I doubt in this dangerous line of work ,"showboating" as someone put it is commonplace.

Just wondering the estimated age of that tree? :) And if that was my home, I would think that stump would make an excellent platform for a treehouse!

  • Well done, but unless you havent anything smaller than an 88 your showboating for the camera using it when a smaller saw would save your back, increase your speed and be safer to use. Ah but the ego of us arborists when the camera is on makes us do stupid things. I only climb with an 88 when NOTHING else will work, hate the thing but lighter than my 090! Great job!

  • Fair comment bud, 2 reasons for using it were the fact that i'd bought it about a month before and hadn't used it yet and also took the 660 but realised when i came to use it that it had been hammered previously so wasn't prepared to come down the tree to sharpen it to make about 6 cuts. I do prefer to use something bigger than diameter, were as others prefer smaller and lighter, personal preference i suppose. Thanks for the feedback mate

  • 880 in a tree like that+ no wrap handlebar= stupid

  • your stupid if you had a head tyhen you would know that what he is doig is safe 100%

  • why dont you go for some bigger tops and get some logs out of it.. i'd like to see that 880 felling that stump in one cut...that would be bitchin

  • SWEEEEEEET!!!!

  • I can't wait for the day that i will have to go out and buy myself one of those bad boys. Your an awsome arborist dude. Keep up the good work and play it safe for you and our mother earth lungs.

  • I tip my hat to you sir, Good work and good show. Nice saw work , but i would have used a 440mag with a 32 or 36 befor I had the monstor 880 mag in the tree.. But it is your job and done very well. I hope to see more of your work no matter what any body says.. keep cutting safe .

  • very nice video mate. Iv'e been an arborist now for 4 years have myself a lead climbers job :) so im really pleased bout that. Take care mate and cut safe fella

  • bees knees.

im an arborist meself. HATS OFF

  • sweet video ;)

  • Nice work mate, well done. hope to see more. Dont worry about idiots on here, just shows he hasnt got a clue.

  • As far as i can see the job was fine, am new 2 the arb game and not using gobs and back cuts would be nuts am sure, no control and major danger of splitting.

  • Love it, love it ,LOVE IT! so dan holiday83 has gone on and signed up for another youtube user name (testcricket01) kind of a current theme for a name you just thought of. This kind of stupidity would only come from the like of you - the kind of fool who might put unleaded in a desil !! after he has spent the day doing BAD treework
