The sax player is actually Lou Marini, the saxophonist from the original Saturday Night Live band. This was Live Aid which John Mellencamp asked Billy Joel to be a part of at the last minute, and Rivera couldn't make it.

Billy doesn't consider himself a vocalist, but I have to differ. He sounds amazing live, no cracks or singing out of tune. He lasted so long because of his vocal control. It's hard to sing and play in a sitting position. He makes it look so easy.

You're ignorant. You're one of those people who thinks that someone who can parrot some really complicated piece of music, after learning it for months, is brilliant.

There's more to being a pianist than classical playing. Joel is an incredible improviser, and technical player. Remember, he was in his fifties when that classical album was done, and he has short fingers. He's a better pianist than you or anyone you know will ever be.

lolol. unless their interpretation is especially insightful I don't think that the act of technically mastering a complicated piece in and of itself should be praised as brilliant...Joel is not an incredible pianist is any sense, techinally or in terms of improvisation. Today, the most skilled improvisors are in jazz, not pop. He's a good pop song writer, that much I'll give him.

Also, I am a better pianist than he is, as are many professional pianists I know...

"Today"? The man's 59 years old. Are you comparing him to Justin Timberlake or someone. Look, just because he's doesn't play in any run-down jazz joints below the radar, don't mean he's no good. I can bet you're basing your assumptions on a few hits you've heard.

Who knows, you may well be a better pianist, but I doubt he's gonna lose any sleep over some arrogant jazz elitist poking jabs at him on a youtube video.

that'd just be modesty, i was just responding to a guy who said he can't be considered a talented pianist whatsoever. I'm a pianist, and i know a talented pianist when i see one, if you've seen all that he can do you wouldn't be able to fault his improv skills. Like his solos in live performances of piano man or zanzibar, to name a couple.
