I was there, last saturday the r n r library was open, hotter than hell, about to leave, so glad I stayed. Mick looked so happy to be playing to the 50 or so people there. Enjoyed this more than seeing them in 78 and 79.
ONly down side, I was standing next to yeaaah man, a total knobhead
So much nostalgia in watching this, imagining Joe to his right and Paul to his left and Topper behind them on drums... Then it all fades away and it's back to this in the present, with the sad realization that Joe's gone forever. Well, actually, I suppose he's never really gone because The Clash's music is eternal. Keep on rockin', Mick.
The Crown (& Sceptre) is my local. It's been a Wetherspoons been for 20 years.
Decent cask ale. The bogs fucking stink though.
Wonder when Mick last was in there. He lived in Christchurch House opposite the pub with his gran for a few years, however he moved to West London about 5 yeras before he would have legally been able to get a drink in there!.
BAD were the second band I ever saw live. KEEP OFF THE GRASS!
Stay Free met you in Glasgow 86 saw you Irvine and Apollo in 79 and 81 One of the biggest influences in my Life were The Clash..Love this song for all the dead ones Stay Free. Clash City Rockers..
to a 16 year old in suburban Portland OR... this was a look into adulthood, reflection, and friendship that I could not get from any other band. Still- 30 years later... the "only band that matters" and my favorite ever!
I've always liked Mick, he's the optimist of the Clash (not that the others were emo, just quite serious, but Mick was always the guy with the smile). This video shows how great these songs are. If they can stand up on their own played in such an understated manner, you know it's a great song. It's also why the Clash, after Mick left the band, were no longer capable of equaling their previous greatness.
I'll take Stay Free over anything on Cut the Crap any day.
When you listen to Mick do a solo version of this you can clearly hear where Billy Bragg got his idea. He wanted to play Clash tunes but only had a guitar so why not do them solo electric? Nice that he and Mick work together these days.
Thing is mate I grew up in Streatham although I haven't lived there in maybe 25 years...was 14 in 1977...it was pretty shit even those days? I guess it must be loads worse now?
Great to see Mick play one of my fav Clash songs solo.
Was he around when u were young..????? Or ...just pointing out lyrics?
I think that U.K havs such a musical "heritage" and lots of people made/make music, that there is a lots of great stories bout scene etc... Arghh i wish i was born in uk .... sometimes! But appreciate if u bother to answer my question..? :-) Sorry my bad english mate.. :-/
My opinion :
and THE FREAKING BEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD:-) one of them.. :-)
Sorry for third comment but its amazing that Mick got almost "same" voice as then , back in the days...Age haven´t changed hes voice significantly ... Its almost same, u cant really say that for many musicians...maybe hes not ruined it coz he wasnt lead vocalist..? I dunno..? Opinions?
Wow! That's just brightened up my day no end. What a great man and a great song. Long live Mick!
