  • If you're really curious why she jumped there is an explanation of the full Crane - Iron Pentalogy (of which Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is the 4th Book) at the link below:

    michelleyeoh.info/Movie/Ch/novels.html

  • why did she fucking jump? this scene is so sad makes me wanna kill myself and that fucking music, fucking drama

  • SUBLIME

  • One of best endings ever, and I think it's open to the spectator the interpretation of Jen's act..

  • @DeathShamans She was no heroine, she had caused untold suffering in so many ways that it would be inappropriate for her to suddenly be a hero, she disrespected mu bi so many times it even led to his death, betrayed her mother, her lover, shamed her parents and husband, took yu's lover away from her when they were about to be together. Should she be made a hero just because shes a woman? Men who do as much as this in tales usually end up dead or the wicked emperor :d

  • @TheLydianRocks Not to mention Stole the green destiny TWICE

  • "pide un deseo" //esta escena sumado a al chelo Yo-Yo Ma me sacó más de una lágrima

  • can someone please explain to me what happened? lol

  • @TheGSPFilms1 This is just based on my own interpretation, but I think Jen couldn't live with what she had done, so a normal life is no longer an option. Unlike the boy in the story who didnt die and had his wish granted, I think Jen died. Its an open minded ending, so I guess anything couldve happened, its up to you to decide.

  • @rannierunsfast when he said "I want to be back in the desert", that technically means she died and went to the desert?

  • "Jen's suicide at the end of the film signifies the hopelessness of her quest for freedom. She realizes that marriage would confine her, the freedom she attempted killed someone, and her love for Lo would require her to give up the personal freedom she always wanted."

i think this says it all. TT_TT best movie ever.

  • @kruzenator I don't think Jen was necessarily "committing suicide." Mystically, by having a true heart, the act symbolizes faith strong enough that by releasing yourself from the world, you can return to a time of happiness. I don't think it's suicide as much as an expression of faith and love, within the legend.

  • We all want to go "back to the desert, the way things were" but things can't go back to the way they were, life changes and moves forward . I hate it

  • This scene is beautiful. The music is wonderful

  • only just watched this film in 2011 dont normally do martial arts but this film is so much more, the soundtrack at the end is simply beautiful would love to hear a different take on this, eg steel drums and acoustic guitar.

  • the music track is perfectly fit to this scene, beautiful, which makes me watch only this part over and over again

  • This will forever remind me of my love story.. I met this girl in Arizona and we fell in love literally at first sight, but we ended up moving away from each other.. but to our surprise, we moved to the same state.. we were so young and far away we couldnt see each other.. so we went our seperate ways for a bit but eventually got back together.. things werent like they used to be though, so it ended.. and it makes me so sad to lose my love.. I just want to go back to the desert with her. My love

  • BUCKFUTTER

  • Suicide. LIKE A BOSS.

  • i'm asian, and i havent seen a chinese movie better than this one, so i dont understand why it is claimed that this movie sucks from an asian pov. korean movies, though, comes close

  • When i first watched this film about 7 years ago, i couldn't appreciate it that much. I just thought it was ok. But now after watching it again, it made me cry. Amazing piece of art.

  • @Youngandsuffering When it was first released in America, I liked it but didn't think much of it. It easily shot up to the top of my favorite films list when I re-saw it with the Blu-Ray release. It's an incredibly beautiful film.

  • She doesn't die at the end, she told him to make a wish so she jumped. And like he was telling her,"when someone dares try to jump off the mountain, they're wish will come true, they don't die or get hurt, they're wish just comes true."

They're are more books than cthd and I heard that Jen and Lo have a son.

  • these chinese films where people can balance on twigs just never makes sense to me :s why did that woman like kill herself??? lol

  • @TheChunkBoi I Believe Its Sort Of Like Their Version Of A Fantasy. Just Like Dragons And Dwarfs To Us Euro-Americans...As For Jumping Off The Bridge, It Has Something To Do About A Wish Of Sorts

  • Do you know the song's name at the end of the movie??

  • @rayschalch On the official score, the name of the track is "Farewell."

  • Nice quality.

  • Nah she won't die~ after all the flying and jumping in this moving, it's hard to convince me that jump off the cliff can kill her XD

  • I think some people have misunderstood the ending - she jumped off the bridge into the other world to save mu bai from dying. it is to do with the chinese prophecy mentioned at the bridge

  • @jayleebenjamin

No she killed herself. It's based on the legend he tells her in the desert. The wish to return to the desert may come true, but only because she is dead.

  • For me one of the best movies in history. Thanks

  • Watching this for the first time when I was ten, I cried for the first time during a moive after watching this scene. It was also the first time I'd ever realized that I had truly watched something that was beautiful.

  • @thian111xx Yes, she truly did love him. But her commiting suicide just annoyed the hell out of me. Instead of living the rest of her life making amends to the people she wronged, taking responsibility, reflecting on her selfish actions, repenting using her skills to do good things and maybe truly being happy w/him...she thinks she doesn't deserve happiness. That's the sad part. She being a coward ruined the ending for me. I love everything else about the movie.

  • @fmylifejc she just wanted to grant him his wish, I think -- to her, that was paramount

  • @fmylifejc perhaps all she wanted was to grant him his wish, which I think was what they were talking about before she jumped, but it's been a long time and maybe I'm remembering it wrong

  • @fmylifejc But don't you see? Thats it: she was selfish. And even after she'd gone through it all, she killed herself. I thought the ending to this movie was absolutly brilliant. A happily ever after would have not left the massive impact that this scene left.

  • i cried when this movie finish :( but what i did't get is why she try to kill her self?

  • @thian111xx very simple. Because a good love story, someone has to die, just like Titanic, romeo and juliet lol. director wants people to think about why she suicide, he never tell the answer. she has gone throught many happens, so just use your intuition, and there is no true answer.

  • sniff.... Make a wish Lou....excuse me *goes and cries* Dx

  • Dayam this music is sad! Whatever mood you are in, be it happy, angry, playful, this music has a gravitational pull towards sadness stronger than a black friggin hole

  • this film is EPIC in every since of the word! sheer brilliance

  • I'm glad she killed herself. She was selfish, cocky (but w/skills to back it up), a liar, a thief, disloyal, fickle, flippant, kind of a sociopath. She messed up the lives of everyone close who cared about her, even her lover at the end. To me her suicide is a cop-out, not tragic. The music is really good though.

  • @fmylifejc i agreed but than agian she do truthly love him

  • @fmylifejc i felt exactly the same way ten years ago. but after contemplating on it now that i'm older, i realized she had such a misfortunate fate. she was young and was bound to make mistakes, but the mistakes she made turned out to be so horrible and irreversible. some of us are just luckier than she was

  • I've had arguments w/ friends that if her role was played as a young man, then maybe the movie would've been more well received in China...because...you know...strong assertive girl ...in China. They no likey.

  • was für ein trauriges ende

  • this is pretty funny out of context

  • my entire life i thought that she jumped off the cliff to commit some sort of honorable suicide.....only now did I realize that isn't what happened. It's not as powerful anymore :'(

  • @tenebnaes Actually, it's still open to interpretation. They've never definitively stated whether or not she kills herself or if she survives.

  • Why is this movie so popular among the West (inc. Hollywood?) As an Asian, I've always thought it's a bit overrated...= =

  • @wincipoet me too

  • She commits suicide

  • @dirtylos30

    Nirvana !!!

  • "A faithful heart makes wishes come true"

After losing everything and causing so much pain and damage in the process, if he was the last thing she he had left, I think she'd want to be sure that the love was pure. Also, maybe she felt that she deserved to die anyway and wondered if she even deserved love- I think that's why she jumped. Kind of like tossing a coin.

Beautiful and brilliant film. It's certainly one of my favorites.

  • She was a true adventurer, never satisfied. You have to admire her courage.

  • The best ending ever because the annoy Whoring Bitch finally dies.

  • alright I don't understand why did she commit suicide in the end?

  • @bluedust11 couldnt live with her past, to unbearable to change/release, maybe she brushed up against what Mu Bai truly was

  • why can all the chines fighters fly ??? XD

  • this is seriously one of the most important scenes in the last ten years of cinema. everything about this scene is beautiful, and it's one of the best tie-ins ever, i think. soft visuals + musical score + great narrative tie-in = one of the best endings ever

  • @padouke this is a very deep scene.. the result is up to the viewer how you see Jen as.. that's genius.. and the Tan Dun music in the backdrop is just perfection.. i guess im always marveled by great films beautifully written.. this movie didn't get the full credit it deserves.. just my opinion tho..

  • An enigmatic portrayal of Love, Trust, and sacrifice.....All in one ending scene

  • To Chinese people, this is just an average movie.

To Americans, this is the best Chinese movie ever made.

Granted, most Americans haven't see a lot of Chinese movies, but when Americans do see the Chinese movies that Chinese people say are better, none come even close to 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.'

  • @Markus77x7 reason why the yanks n europe rate crouching tiger, hidden dragon so high as being the best chinese movies is coz it actually have a great story..the rest of chinese movies are just the same if you know what i mean..same story of a mysterious warrior from a village that was destroy by bad guys or bad guys kill the hero master n he wants revenge or a group of warriors fighting for there honor..you hardly have a decent love story in chinese movies n they never kiss the girls too.

  • A beautiful film and such a sad ending. A masterpiece of cinema.

  • Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon truly is one of the greatest movie ever made and even tho the ending is sad it's also tragically beautiful.

  • @moonseed26 It remains an incredible movie. It's only about 10 years old, but I truly long for movies this mystical, magical and emotional -- it feels as if it were made in a world and time far away from now. I wish movies were like this again. We all have to look too far for them, and it seems most moviegoers are trapped in the trash compactor coughing out most movies that make big money these days. It's too bad. I'll just have to go watch Crouching Tiger again, and again.

  • ending was beautiful..

  • Oh yeah, crying, thats all im always doing watching this...

  • I just bought this on Blu-Ray a few days ago and I hadn't seen it in 7+ years, it was a lot more heart wrenching now that I actually understand more of whats going on. Excellent film.

  • "I wish I was deeeaaad" *SPLAT*

  • i hate this ending because it`s so sad and so beautiful.. ;`( ;)

  • The girl is achingly beautiful......

  • Favotire movie all time

  • violet kimono: Agreed- one of the finest movies I've ever seen; and if there has ever been a more perfect, sadder or more romantic ending to a movie, I'm yet to see it...

  • very true

  • Its filmed at Mount Cangyan in the Hebei Province of China.

  • "A faithful heart makes wishes come true."

  • One of the best movies ever made

  • this ending is so sad. almost wants me want to cry but i cant cause im a man. 'sniff'.

  • you can watch it alone man..

  • there's nothing bad about men crying...

  • @FrederikundWilma men have emotions too they're just afraid to show it xD

it's not tough to cry. anyway AWESOME FILM, touching ending too

  • This is actually better than Braveheart's Freedom song and I would have never thought that could be but this is heart-wrenching....If I ever have the chance to be on my death bed, this and Braveheart r putting me to sleep

  • Definitely one of the best endings I have ever seen. The accompanying music is impeccable.

  • Tan Dun also composed the beautiful ending music of Hero

  • where was this scene filmed?

  • it's supposed to be wudan mountain but i somehow doubt they would be allowed

    who knows?

  • Thanks 4 this!

    Peace!!!

  • a movie one of a kind.Although other directors tried to make a movie about Chinese mithology or similar staggering marshal arts in the following years no one, absolutely no one managed to even get close to the greatness and the beauty of this masterpiece.

  • Well said. A lot of people have praised movies like Hero and House of Flying Daggers, both of which I like, but this is just exceptional.

  • Totally agree!!! I had a lump in my throat for days after seeing this end scene. It's the most beautiful piece of film I have EVER seen!

  • nice movie!

  • So beautiful. Oh, and that final shot of a sea of mist filled up to the mountaintops!

  • this ending made me cry.. now she is set free... beautiful movie.. truly beautiful!

  • i agree but if this made you cry dont you dare read the books i think its like 5 or 4 books all together talk about sad after this one i believe its Iron Knight, Silver Vase

  • This film was, is amazing. I cant belive I feel sadness towards the end. Q those books you talk about, I would like to read one. Whats the best one of of the 4 ???

    Thanks

  • Precious Sword, Gold Hairpin is great but it all depends on what you like best they should have made all of them into films its 5 books i put a link in a private message for you. be blessed. :D

  • The ending makes me cry every time

  • Yo Yo Ma playing Tan Dun's heartwarming score is what dose it for me :P

  • i like your interpertation but have one question didnt in the book that follows this called Iron Knight, Silver Vase jen and lo have a son just wondering

  • @BiggousDickous i got a big dick

  • @Soniapickles me 2,ending is amazing

  • You know, I didn't really know how to take this ending, but your interpretation makes alot of since. And in some strange way, I feel like that was somewhat the way I felt about it too. So thanks :)
