My point is your not going to have a $5 pack of joints. For example when I buy an oz. for $100 now and I smoke 10 oz per year, plus get busted once I'm looking at anywhere from $1200~2000 yearly cost. When it becomes legal it will have at least half of the % tax tobacco has (being generous here). Your looking at $200~250 per ounce. Thats $2000~2500 a year. Unless you're a dipshit and get busted several times throughout the year you're better off the way it is.

If Holland is anything to go by, the prices of marijuana will remain about the same when legalised. $50 tax per ounce seems about right to me, as manufacturing costs on weed are very low and the only reason it's worth as much as it is, is because it's illegal! Now that extra cost goes to the government instead of the black market. Makes sense to me!!

Just because they would tax it means you wouldn't pay more people. Legalizing it would drive cost down because there is no risk involved in getting caught for growing it. It doesn't cost much to cultivate at all. People have gardens already. Also, Philip morris and other such companies would hope on that so quick, for huge profit gains. This bring compitition which drives cost further down.
