got the Asus G1S-AK005C (Asus Gaming Series) now a month (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.20 Ghz, Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT 256MB (With a total of 1024 MB with 768MB shared memmory) 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, ... also a free backpack and a gaming mouse lol :)
It's really a super thing :D All my games on best settings. I will be able to play Crysis on Mid/high :)
Yeah this laptop is awesome, especially since I upgraded from a 4 year old desktop with integrated graphics. I had to buy a laptop since i'm going to college oversees pretty soon. Only thing that sucks is that the battery life (the battery life decreases rapidly after a few discharges), and laptop and power adapter get very hot after a while. And you can't use the full 1680 1050 resolution in most games since obviously the graphics card can not handle that.
Battery life is pretty good with me ;) but indeed the power adapter gets very hot after a while (but that is normal, the net power gets transformed to what the laptop needs so every laptop has that problem...) and the laptop is build to resist heat, so no problem :P (if you want you can use a laptop cooler....)
yeah i just bought the G1S-B1 latest version of this model, it friggen rapes, i love it. On most games i can run it on 1680 x 1050 though, as long as i have the high performance clocking on, but on the others it tends to be laggy. Like on WoW i get full 60fps with everything on max.
Actually I was seriously considering this since I was going to run games off the hdd. But after getting advice at notebookreview, I kept the 5400 r.p.m. after finding out that the different in write/read speeds is negligible. Even if your running games off the hard drive, it doesn't make a difference.
wtf? No difference between 5400 and 7200? This is just not true, sorry but notebookreview should stop smoking weed, what they told is just not true, believe a CIS graduate and upgrade your HD for much better experience, if you have enough money you can get a 10k, you will sure see the difference. Regards.
Yes there is a difference. Its like having a faster memory stick. 7200rpm may have faster write speeds, but 5400rpm is more than enough for read speeds (no lag). Thats why even faster speeds exist, most laptops still use 5400 rpm.
What country did u purchase this in and what was the price? How much more expensive was it over the regular g1? Your reply would be much appreciated as i am seriously considering purchasing this amazing laptop.
I was initially going to buy from milestonepc which is both a very good american/canadian dealer. I later found a slightly cheaper price at NCIX in Langley, Canada($1899.99 CAD after 90$ CAD rebate) so i decided to buy it there.

Try DELL M1521, then configure it to be the same specs as ASUS G1S-A1, it is about one hundred and 50 lower.
Plus you can get 3 things better.
1. 2.0mb pixel webcam
2. 160 GB HD with 7200RPM
3. better sound card [creative]
