I personally never heard of Rabbi Yaacov Perrin. I am an orthodox jew and there are plenty of "Rabbis" out there who I wouldn't respect an ounce. You can't really pin one comment made by one person on a whole nation, bro.

If you read further you would see that this is but one opinion, and it is not the popular opinion. The Talmud isn't a text of unanomous decisions. Case in point: Hatzoloh (the Orthodox Jewish Volunteer Ambulance group) even breaks the Sabbath to help non-jews.

whats the matter with you people? I saw "Saturday rules" and immediately guessed it was about an eruv. Didnt know there was one in Billyburg though, I only knew of the controversy over the one in Boro Park. No Chillul hashem here, this a controversy like that "between hillel and shamai" so to speak.

it was a rally in response to an attempt by another group to change the rules concerning the shabbos. it was a protest and against the proposed loosening of shabbos rules, although the songs are not protest songs. further there were some scuffles on that day and susequently there were incidents in local synagouges which resulted in criminal charges.

It is in protest to the eruv. The Klausenberger Chassidim approved of the eruv and the Satmar Chassidim (at least for sure R' Zalman Leib's) opposed it
