  • This interview must be baffling to anyone non-English.

  • @EmptyGlass99Friends, unfortunately I am an American. With all due respect, can anyone explain why as an American, this is difficult to understand? As in, what's the difference between English/American humor? Are we all just a bunch of idiots?

  • @MurphyBurrito I'm not talking about the humour, just that this conversation is littered with English cultural references that would probably pass you by if you're not English.

  • Miss Peter being around shame he died quite young aswell .

  • I love this man... Cook, I mean...

  • Cook is so beautiful a human being....

  • Peter Cook reminds me of Steve Coogan =P

  • A true genius. It's such a shame he let his addiction get the better of him. A brilliant mind and a part of English comedy heritage.

  • Did he say cunthorpe?

  • Ha, didn't even bother to dress up. I think the fact that he's so funny comes from the way that you almost expect him not to be funny. Think about it, he looks like he should be in some sort of "respectable job" and then he comes out and does E.L. Wisty!

  • In this clip, Peter looks a little bit like Julie andrews!

  • What a cunt!

  • Ironically he was a dying breed of Englishman

  • love the t-shirt- whats the worst job youve ever had??? the worst job i ever had with jane mansfield

  • ahh in john peel's 'margrave of the marches' he mentioned male rape happening in his school and also that peter cook was also there

  • @fuckamericanidiot No, Cook wasn't at Shrewsbury.

  • I love the fact he is introduced with 'Take Five'. :-)

  • Well you're looking well haha

  • Awesome - but you still won't make me laugh lad! :P

  • There is another clip on Youtube where Cook speaks about being a test tube baby and wondering what magazine was used and saying that it was not popular mechanics.

  • oh what a darling he was

  • "trying to avoid buggery" brilliant!

  • I knew a clever man like Peter Cook would detest a shit game like rugby league!

  • great outfit. red shoes!

  • Comment removed

  • bugger time bahaha

  • Readers of the D.Mail......what a shame Peter Cook had to quote that right-wing rag...

  • He wrote a column in it for a while in the 1970s.

  • The Poms produce the best comedy in the world and Pete was the funniest of the funny.

I still can't believe the BBC deleted all his shows because video tape is a re-usable resource. I mean the man was voted the funniest man of all time by other comedians!

    RIP Pete.

  • is that true? Are they completely stupid?

  • Yep. The BBC wiped a lot of stuff in the... I think it was mid '80s...

Pete tried to buy his stuff, I think. I can't remember exactly why the BBC wouldn't have it. Perhaps something to do with copyright issues.

  • Peter offered to replace the tapes but the person at the BBC said that it wasn't worth it as it was too hard to schedule.

  • bastards

  • Wouldn't have been the 80's. The BBC's policy of archiving and banning tape wiping came into effect in the mid-1970's I think.

  • Is it me, or does he actually still look slightly angry while telling the Ted Dexter story?

  • Incredible how buggery was so commonplace and non-taboo.

  • @tomsega yes, thank god the act has been banned and abhorred by all right-thinking people

  • incredibly louche but also incredibly hetero...

  • cool drinking cider at Henley regatta.. cool, i will be there for a year :)

but i doubt that i will drink any Cider.

  • Ah Public school...private school to our friends in the U.S...it's all bad plumbing and buggery..hey-ho.

  • Public school in the UK is different from private school.

  • No. You are wrong. There are differences.

    A) A private school is a fee paying school, a public school is a fee-paying school but with the headmaster as a member of the head-masters conference.

    B) There is a very distinct difference between a school like Eton compared to a small private girls school. Eton is considered a public school, and many small private girls schools arn't.

  • I wonder how many of today's so-called "stars" could roll up to a live talkshow half cut and still entertain the pants off everyone.

  • He's so funny and you can tell there's no effort in it. He'd be the best guy to sit down with and just talk. Too bad.

  • Its bugger time!! hahahaha mmmm

  • 1976 but peter cook has what appears to be converses how cool. peter cook is cool

  • converse are from the 70's lol watch grease or google them :P

  • They're from the '50's. Basketball shoes.

  • Funniest man ever...

    Come on you Spurs.

  • Cook's t-shirt has "What's the worst job you've ever had?" written on it. This is a reference to, what they think was, the first 'Derek & Clive' sketch recorded in New York when they were on tour with 'Behind the Fridge'. Derek & Clive are discussing the worst job they've ever had and Derek (Cook) says the worst job he ever had was retrieving lobsters from Jayne Mansfield's bum!

  • ah, i was trying to read what it said, but i just couldn't figure "job" out

  • you miss the point....he's just funny and English...whats the problem ? Just becausae he's funny cant he be English ??

  • So because he's english then there's no way he can be a jew?

  • Yeah, what about Stephen Fry?

  • I do not agree. You might have personal issues with this ??

  • If I could be half as funny as the great Peter Cook on a bad day, I would be a happy man... One of the greatest.

  • The sincerity in his face when he reported "trying to avoid buggery". Gloriously funny man.

  • Most hilarious person ever.

  • Peter Cook was AMAZING before the drink really took a hold of his life.

  • when was this filmed?

  • Parkinson says ''in 1976''

  • brilliant interview!! and I like the fact they play golden brown as he comes on =]

  • ...errr. No. That's actually Take Five by Dave Brubeck. Golden Brown didn't appear until six years later, in 1982.

  • A ball bearing business? Was that around the same time he persuaded his girl to appear on the tv show "Blow yer tits up " ?

  • Yeah it was. The girl , was she from Chiswick? You know, the one he f***ed and nailed to the wall.

  • Peter Cook used to own a ball-bearing business.

  • It's doin' quite well.

  • Strange how the funniest people often have such unhappy personal lives or depression.

Peter Cook, Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan,

    Kenneth Williams...

  • Christ, does it matter if he was Jewish?

He was Peter Cook. That's all.

  • Classic. What a genius.

  • Thanks for these, Mrs. Praline!

  • No, I'm not. I'm also aware that Peter Cook wasn't a Jew. I merely asked the question (admittedly a rhetorical one) in order to quote one of Cook's (or Jonathan Millar's) classic quips.

  • Jew-ish I reckon! lol

  • Funny, Peter doesn't look Jewish!

  • Was he a Jew? (Or just "Jew-ish, you know, not the whole hog".)

  • Probably not, but who cares?

  • Cookie was the funniest man in England, during his life.

  • Yes,a beautiful man and a brilliant comedian

  • The funniest man ever. cheers.

  • Peter Cook is sublime.

  • The more you watch him, the more you miss him. Thanks for posting MrsPraline

  • Thanks for this. Much appreciated. Classic television.

  • brilliant,my fav comedian of all time...many thanks for this

  • thank you so much for this. i miss him.
