They don't give you a complimentary hatch if you move the companion cube off the button while you are in the room, as I learned the hard way =(.

But it was difficult to do and not even Valve could anticipate that.

I had it leaning on a camera and then shot a portal under the camera.

It could only be done at the right angle with jumping. You could pull it off, but it takes quite a long time.

if i recall correctly, glados says that aperture science materials can survive 4k Kelvin, which could mean companion cube survives. however, when you put it down the chute into the incinerator, theres an explosion

It's other way around. If you manage to push the cube in there, while still being outside (lean it on the door, etc.), then you are forever trapped.

Yeah the same thing happens in test chamber 18, in the 'main' room with the turrets and the plasma launcher. If you stay in the room long enough just doing nothing, the ensnared permanently dialogue comes on

I tried this too on the Xbox 360. It took me forever to get it angled right. I actually had to have the cube up against the door, and two cameras on the other side of the cube so it would be angled right. You COULD always put in the cheat to put portals anywhere and put a portal at the back of the room, too. It doesn't recognize that you trapped yourself until you actually bring the cube in, though.

I found a way to actually get trapped in there by mistake trying to replicate this. I couldn't get the cube like you had it, so I held the button down with the cube, and blocked the door with a camera, then snuck in. When the door closed, it didn't trigger the event, because the cube was still outside the room. Try it yourself(because I don't have any video making software XD)
