Nice I bought one just like it new, it had 9 miles on it and I was told it was driven 100 miles to our dealership from New York -- go figure. I traded a Triumph TR-3 for it and cash. One of the brake pads was installed backwards in the front which gave me grief. Electric overdrive and Lucas "flame thrower fog lights - Loved the car. I had it until it got a small hit and I could never get the paint to match. 1 year and a half mine till I got a 66 Ford LTD !! Sad huh ?
I registered a youtube account just to tell you how wonderful this is. My father passed away 2 months ago and he owned a car just like this. We worked on it hours together and these cars are very special. The car had to be sold some years ago, but today I own another one of his more recent sport cars. I'll also miss my dad and treasure his car. You did a beautiful thing here. Thanks for sharing it.
This is a car to die for thats for sure. Love what you did with the SatNav, hiding in the grill. Very clever. I was thinking of the same idea for my MGC. I have a home model (rhd) and was thinking of puting a SatNav device behind the grill. Would be interested in your setup if you wouldn't mind sharing. Very Very nice resto.
That was something of an emotional viewing for me....I sense someone's looking from above rather chuffed and very proud of you....He's had quite an influence on his boy....and that BJ8 is.....sublime. VERY WELL DONE ! Thanks for posting this..Regards Chris (Co. Durham, England)
an awesome machine... you have made some great add-ins like the gps and cup holder that do not take away from the authenticity... shall get my metallic golden beige unit out soon and do some changes too..
Flawless restoration. You have made you father proud. Not only is it a nice car but it has such sentimental value. Not many classics stay in the same family for a while.
This is an absolutely beautiful 3000, easily one of the best I've ever seen. I love the way you incorporated newer features into the car while keeping it historically accurate. It must be incredibly fun to drive. Wonderful restoration and a wonderful video. I am truly envious of your fantastic car. Cheers!
@jewlzorjay well you would need to learn how to spell Austin Healey but you would have to go to the owner of the name... @rfcHealey awesome video beautiful car must be such a pleasure
The bad spelling would be due to dyslexia ( which ironically i can't spell properly either and is a silly word to use for sombody who has bad spelling)
But anyway with the Healey name i was thinking more along the lines of how would i claim the name if it no longer had an owner? If the name was no longer i use and the rights were no longer reserved ( if that can happen) i know it sounds far fetched but there is method to my madness.
excellent...very nice...I like what you did behind the old speaker plate...I did somewhat the same, except I put a CB radio...However you did a much nicer job!
daholocaust is mistaken. The "phase one" MK III like mine had a single duel purpose parking/directional light. The phase two, MKIII, starting in 1965 till the end of production in 1967 had separate parking and directional lights. Cheers.
Nice story. You Brits do things a little differently over there, don't you. Here in the States, we try to avoid hitting the pub and park out side. Thanks for saying hello... mate. Cheers!
I went to a British Public School (Mill Hill) in the late 60's. Buddy of mine at school used to borrow his brothers 1962 AH3000 and we used to cruise through London (Kings Road, Picadilly, West End) with the top down trying to hit all the pubs we could. You have created a gem. I wouldn't take a dime under $100K, if you ever decided to sell it. Congrats!
my pleasure rfchealey...a real credit to you and to BMC.i have had a love affair with the AH3000 for many years, never owned one,but when i go to classic car shows here in england i always spend a great deal of time around the AH3000s that are at the show,i was standing by a rally AH3000 for 25 mins the engine was running at the time...(a wonderful sound)..and the engine never missed a beat..as i said a real credit to you my friend...may you have many years of happy motoring all the best...LZDEN.
Healey Blue, Black, Florida Green, Colorado Red, Ivory White, British Racing Green Dark, Metallic Golden Beige, and the two tones: Healey Blue/Ivory White, Black/Colorado Red, Florida Green/Ivory White, Colorado Red/Black and Ivory White/Black.
Colorado Red was a popular standard factory colour was was the Colorado Red over Black. Still this is a wonderful restoration in loving memory of your father. Great job you did. It must be wonderful to drive.
I would love to see the photos of when you started this project. You have done such an amazing job, it looks better than new. I am currently doing a mk III ready to arrive to the church for my wedding in September 2010 but there is no way its going to look anything like this. I just love the sneaky sat nav and your dad would be so so so proud. Well done
P.S I live in Wales UK and if youre ever around give me a shout you can do mine to the same standard. ;-)
Picture the car painted BRG and held together by rust. 4 year nut and bolt restoration. Best of luck with your restoration. Congrats on the wedding! Thank you for your wonderful comments. Cheers.
I worked for the Toy Shop in Southern Cal for many years, its an Austin Healey restoration shop and is where I got my 69 Sprite MK IV. Just wanted to say you did an excellent job... These cars a pulling 90 thousand + dollars today. You certainly have yourself a winner its beautiful and a great memory of your Dad. God Bless.
Thank you SendinK9. Being you worked in a Healey restoration shop, you know what it takes to bring these cars back to like new condition. I thank my family, friends, British Car Forum and my British mechanic for their help along the way. Sometimes I think my beloved Father was somehow guiding me too. God Bless.
No need to think "rfchealey", he is there and always will be my friend. I am sure you made him very proud and I am sure he rides at your side every time you go for a ride... Once again beautiful job, not only your Dad but Donald Healey would also be proud. Take care my friend. I have photos of Donald sitting in my Sprite back in the 80's. Long Story...
Thank you steinwaygrande1. I am proud that my father choose this car to drive when he was in his 30's. Now that I am driving one, people tell me what a beautiful car I drive. Thank you Dad, I'm proud to be driving one now.
Your not alone with your opinion. The most popular color for the Healey's was, Healey Blue, aka Light Blue Metallic. The two tone, Healey Blue with Old English White coves was an option. Cheers.
I did the full restoration and I am lucky to have an experienced British mechanic that l bring her to. He keeps her running in tip-top shape. She drives as good as she looks. Cheers.
Oh my god. She's beautiful.
