  • This was not at all what I was expecting. I'm not really sure how it would make sense if it were done liturgically. It's so distracting, that hearing it in preparation for the Great Entrance would be really bizarre. As a choral piece, it's good, but please keep it just that: a concert piece.

  • Sounds like something out of Glee.

  • Artistically beautiful but as others have said, I'm not sure it would work well liturgically. Your Trisagion, on the other hand, is superb!

  • Incredibly and absolutely inappropriate for use in the Church regardless of whether it is Ukrainian Greek Catholic or Orthodox. :(((( If you tried to sing this in a Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Ukraine, they would most likely stop the liturgy and stop you from finishing the piece. Not to be insulting, but this is the kind of music that we should be moving AWAY from in the Church, and move towards the traditional chant styles.

  • I agrre about the dress, but I guess its rehersal....also The Cherubicon is one of the most sublime and important hymns of the Liturgy, I dont know why people think that the "youth" need to have everything "upgraded", Im afraid this sounds like a bad harry potter arrangment. The Vocal qualities are excellent though

  • ((Only.... i would expect people to dress much better than they did when in a Church. One would not dress slopy for the President of whatever place, why would they for the Lord of the Universe?

Anyway, good choir, good song, just not for Liturgy.

  • Not a good liturgy setting... It does not sound Orthodox at all, nor Catholic of any type. Although i must admit it is much better than many of these modern/protestant hymns we sing now days. But either way, when i am ordained, i will have nothing but traditional, True Catholic chants in my Lord's choir. No modern crap.

The composer of this song and this choir did a good job though.

  • Congratulations Simon and choir.Superb

  • I don't know what the other people's comments are talking about, you guys rocked at WYD! It was great listening to you guys everyday in church! Keep up the great work, because you're awesome!

  • Was a choir director for ten years prior to diaconal ordination (six years this January). With no offense intended to the composer, I don't see how you could use this liturgically...the constant repetition of words and phrases makes it extra-liturgical. That said, congrats to the musicians and composer for going outside of the usual Bortniansky copycat routine and using God-given talent. The sound is beautiful. Keep working to put the whole liturgical package together. Otets Mykola

  • Beautiful and creative. Magnificent choir. I'm not certain that the composer meant his rendition to be sung during the DL so for those who vented their criticism, perhaps you need to temper it a bit. Voices raised in praise of God.... how could they possibly be termed: ridiculous? borderline offensive? Nonsense. Congratulations to the composer, choir director and choir for a beautiful rendition.

  • Слава Ісусу Христу!

Father Leontovych (composer of Shchedryk / Carol of the Bells) would probably not agree that this rendition was inappropriate. Besides neither he, you or the celebrant are the audience to be pleased, in the Liturgy the audience is One. I believe He will find the voices of youth raised in divine praise acceptable even if they were singing McCartneys Let it Be.

  • Really interesting. Very creative. And beyond innappropriate as well. It's very entrancing musically, but there is so much focus on the music that the whole point of preparing for the Great Entrance is lost. If I were a priest there is NO WAY I would want this in my church. This is not Orthodox... or Ukrainian Catholic.

  • As an Orthodox Christian, I think this is very inappropriate. The style of the piece is really contemporary and not Orthodox at all...it should not be sung in the Church at all...

  • I absolutely agree with stojan002.

  • While the choir sings well, this is perhaps the worst setting of the Cherubicon I've ever heard. This should be borderline offensive to anyone with any sort of understanding of Orthodox theology.

  • This is beautiful!

what a wonderful way to lift up voices to God!

I bet he doesn't think it is inappropriate-such joy-you can hear it!

  • Thank you very much for your wonderful words!

  • Absolutely fantastic! People must understand that some church music was written specifically for concert and not for actual use in the Divine Liturgy for worship. A great piece; a great choir!

  • My opinoin is that this is just ridiculous...

I agree with stjosephugcc and advokatrj it's fine for concert... but for Divine Liturgy- NO.

  • I wholeheartedly agree with stjosephucc that, while the artistry is to be appreciated, this setting is MOST inappropriate for use in the Divine Liturgy.

  • What wonderful creativity! Bravo to the composer and conductor. I would love to have the score for our choir in Canada.

And I would love to bring this type of praise to our liturgy on occasion. The notes bring praise to God in a wonderful new way. Slava Bohu!

  • beautiful matey am proud to know and work with you xo

  • The performance and artistic interpretation is appreciated, but the musical setting does not match the meaning of the prayer. It is ok for a concert performance as a form of expression, but I do not see how this would be well recieved during the divine liturgy. The priest would be reading the silent prayers with the jumpy melody.

Dont get me wrong I appreciate the artistry, but Liturgical singing is not just about that.

  • I completely agree. Not suitable for Liturgy, but would be WONDERFUL during a Sacred Arts concert.

    Beautiful voices!
