I was there at the inaugrial game. I remember both Adelaide and Brisbane players were SHOCKED at the attendance. 4 weeks earlier, Adelaide City were getting their usual 2,000. When they threatened to leave ... and did ... the AU stepped in and EVERYBODY in Adelaide came out in force. They had been waiting for a CULTURALLY NEUTRAL team for over 20 years ... and the opportunity final came. Even though Brisbane lost, THEY TOO were clapping back at the crowd at the end, in AWE!
@twmarlin It was breath-taking. And it shook all of Australia ... because of the surprise element of Adelaide coming out in forces to see a true Adelaide team - and Australia had not see such a crowd turnaround for a home league team - 2,000 one week for 20 years, then over 16,000 the week after (Perth did have the lead on us in being first). They could not get them all in. There were lines outside of Hindmash and hundreds missed out.
played against him in under 6s( i was in goals and he chipped me from outside the box in u6's) thru to under 12s.. he was and still is an amazing player, he got a bit unfit after this season but then joined adelaide city and is still playing, but just not at the level his sort of talent is capable of
I was there too.....has anyone got video of that first match?
