yeah,its just evolution really,buy the 600d now and be all cool,but in 9 months time the 650 will be out,with some advanced gimmick like 3d , 30mega pixels or see thro the models drors vision! .then your good ''old'' 600d price will plummet.I have the 500d its pretty good but no means perfect,i think there is an inherent flaw on all of these cameras. unfortunately i cant afford the money to prove it.thats why ill stick with my ''old'' 500d.

If you are a first timer this is the camera for you. The 500D is also nice but just because it has High Definition Video but not realy needed if you want to start Photography and learn the essentials. It also has 15.1Megapixel Sensor, But dont think that 15.1 Mps means better it does not. But it does mean bigger photos. The Motordrive on the 450d is faster . This is in my opinion the best Beginners DSLR. If you want high specs and future proof but costs more then the 50D is also good.

@spanners08 Hard to understand exactly what you meant, but changing the camera to auto will remove any settings (like aperture) that you had set in a manual mode. You can have different settings in every mode in fact, and the camera remembers them!

Don't buy the Sigma 18-200mm lens but buy the Canon 18-200mm because the canon has a better autofocus and diafragma. The Canon lens is just a few euro's expensive but a lot better.

I assume you're buying the D50 as used, try finding 450D used too :P, since you shouldn't use that much money to the camera, the lenses are more important.

The 450D is a beautiful cam, but you can also find earlier versions that are jus tas great. Difference being the pixels. Check on Ebay, I found a Canon EOS 10mp, refurbished for $350 (CAD) not including the lense. You can also find lenses on Ebay used.

this is weird, i know to get a focused shot using the live view, all you have to do is press the AF button right? but this video shows he's going on and off the live view to get it focused. weird... weird.

They obviously didn't read the manual. You can focus in live view, all you have to do is press the button on the top right corner of the back side with the "-" sign and the little magnifying glass, and it'll flip the mirror up focus and get you back in live view on its own in an instant (that is as soon as it focuses). Also i think it can focus like regular non dSLR cameras by measuring contrast, without flopping the mirror up.

right. there's 2 modes, the first one is the quick mode where the mirror flips to get the subject focused. and the live mode where it acts like a point and shoot. but not exactly like how a point and shoot works.
