  • 耳痛い!

  • a japanese song sung by a korean singer remade into an american song... cool

  • 発音がちょっと残念だけど悪くないね

  • nice

  • meri kurisumasu!!

  • wow...they covered this pretty well...

  • hahaha..awesome cover.i love boa but this is amazing as well.kudos to rivers.

  • @CatMaDeOfSalad Rivers' voice is NOT coarse, it is just cool.

  • ..as a Japanese major, I'd say his pronunciation is actually pretty good : )

  • @aerinzero yea its pretty good but a still a good amount american accent

  • This is actually really cool. It's a different side of Weezer than I'm used to, but I like it! And as far as whether they speak Japanese fluently or not...who cares? Plenty of Asian singers use English in their songs despite not speaking it fluently. I'm sure the Japanese just appreciate Weezer's effort, and they can enjoy it either way. Americans always get hung up on not being able to understand a song. Who cares? Just relax and enjoy it!

  • Oh wow. This has been one of my favorite Jpop songs, and I think it's freakin' awesome that one of my favorite bands covered it. ^_^

  • His Japanese pronunciation just made me almost die laughing!

  • @uiggu better than gackt trying to sing english.

  • That's crazy! Incidentally, "Meri Kudi" is romanized Punjabi for "My Girl"

  • :I didnt know they had this! This makes me happy :)

  • this is different. I like.

  • Always loved this song by BoA. And yet, Weezer's version is very appealing as well.

  • well i think it's really good... voice wise... and i love this song. but the accent is really... thick, to say the least

  • I'm not sure if weezer meant this to be a joke. Sounds pretty bad. But he probably does a better job than I ever could. =)

  • Listen to the song Agony by The Gazette. Cringe as you hear them try to speak English instead of bitching about the Japanese.

  • The high notes are barely in his range. I can't really comment on his Japanese, but hey, it's a great effort.

  • i swear i just heard this version on the radio... fm yokohama 84.7 at around 3:45 on christmas... hilarious...

  • he's singing this with like the same tone as ging nang boyz

    i enjoy

  • Hmmmm.... of course there is some accent, but he is pronouncing things correctly; his R's sounds like Japanese R's, his vowels sound right, etc. Trust me, I'm a linguist.

And yeah, this type of accent seems to be what a lot of J singers try to aim for...which I never really understand.

  • trust me, i am learning japanese. i trust myself on this, cause i fluently speak two other languages which have almost identical accents to japanese his vowels are not correct at all. its better than most americans, but his "a" is not right... i don't know how to describe it, but its off. Same with his "i" from time to time. Also his "t" sound sounds like like an english T.

But I'll admit it, his japanese R is pretty good. he doesn't do it perfectly every time, but he usually does

  • I LOVE THIS.

  • I love the harmonica on this version....Go Weezer

  • x-X

  • You're all wrong. I'm a fluent speaker of japanese and I had no problem understanding any of the words. His pronounciation of course wasnt native level, but it was great for a native english speaker.

  • i understood it just fine too

  • his pronounciation might be painful to listen to, but that happens when japanese singers sing in english, so we shouldn't complain xD

However, i must admit that its really cool that they did this

And I have it on my iPod xD

  • i actually kinda likehis jap voice

  • BoA rules, glad to see weezer has such great taste

  • @ramenchan41 YES, GREAT TASTE BUT EVEN GREAT SENSE OF IRONY....

  • DUDE

I have so much more respect for Weezer now.

Even though I adore them anyway ;D

    xx

  • ♥3♥!!!

  • his japanese isn't that bad. it's covered up a little bit by the singing.

  • Hmm... love the song, but I can't say I enjoyed this rendition =(

  • This song is boss.

  • it was ok i guess

but it's cool how an american band sang a japanese

song instead of like BoA singing one of their songs

...LOL can u imagine BoA singing pork&beans?! ;D

  • I would love to hear BoA sing "Say It Ain't So" or "Pink Triangle."

  • This is my favorite BoA song, but I dunno if this guy's voice is cut out for this kind of ballad.

His pronunciation sounds about the same as any gaijin speaking Japanese. I didn't think it was too bad, but my Japanese friend says it sucks. LOL

  • Just thought I'd add to that, this guy's Japanese is definitely no worse than when Japanese people try to sing in English!!

Or even when BoA tried to sing in English on her earliest albums (before her U.S. debut) her English was soooo horrible it's painful to listen to & you can't understand but maybe a couple of words here and there. XD

  • i wish i knew what the lyrics mreant but honestly im always amazed at rivers cuiomo delivery...i think hge has one of the best voices out of all the male vocalist in "rock" music

  • lol weezer singing japanese

  • It was the thought that counts and BoA seemed to appreciate it.

  • Exactly: BoA said she was honored.

  • Can They Actually Speak Japanese....Or Did They Learn It Phonetically!!!

  • Well, Rivers' wife is Japanese, so I imagine he's gotten better at speaking it over the years, but I'm not sure if he's fluent in Japanese yet. I don't think the rest of the band speaks Japanese though.

  • I can't understand what he's singing. It's like he's speaking a different language.

  • REALLY!? omg You're a genius. The dude is singing in Japanese. The song was originally recorded by BoA. Sorry.. Didn't mean to be mean just now, but that WAS kind of funny. lol... Smoke pot much? And yes, Weezer butchers the song, although it IS cute.

  • I think maybe that was sarcasm...

  • WOW i thought they would sing it in english O_O

OMG JAPANESE. this turned out awesome.

  • The song is good. Weezer butchers it.

  • It's...interesting O_O I have to admit, I saw something online that said "Meri Kuri - Weezer" and I started laughing out loud, like, "haha, that's not right, you idiots!" But OMG...

  • <33 i love it !! :]..

  • wow IT IS THe WEezer sing it ..O.O (omg surprise) <(OO<) luv it

  • A BoA/Weezer combination, weird but awesome.

  • Yeah, definitely unexpected, but I love it. haha

  • ' ...taka kara nomuro, fujiro nakombeeeeeeee... '

    ; P

  • sugoi!

  • ddaisuki dayo!!!

    BoA's song!!!

    meri kuri(merry chri)

BoA also have a version of it in korean..

    kakkoii!!!!!!!!

  • We always here Asian covers of American songs, but this is really different. Wow. I like Weezer, and I like BoA (but unfortunately I've never liked this song) and this is fairly interesting. Thanks for uploading.

  • No problem! It's a beautiful song, I love Weezer's version. :o)

  • You spelled it correctly, but I'm not sure it's fitting. I'm told it means 'cute', in a delicate, little-girl sort of way.

  • It means "scared."

  • It's spelled correctly. You're thinking of the word "kowai" which means scary. "Kawaii" though, indeed means 'cute'.

  • :D :D kawaii!!!hope I spelled it right XD

  • I have no idea hahaha But I'm glad you like it! lol
