Canada has a very conservative government. Why doesnt the Prime Minister urge voters to scrap their single payer non profit insurance system in favor of an American style system? Because Canadians are happy with what they have. They would kick him out of office if he proposed turning Canadians over to for profit health insurance corporations where a dozen middlemen take a cut of our insurance premiums just for handling our money.
It is true that very few here believe that the American system is one that Canada should adopt.
That said, our system is in horrible shape. People die on waiting lists. I have lost two people due to ridiculous wait times, one being my grandfather.. That is not a lie. You can wait months to see a specialist where I live, months for an MRI, months for surgery. We are severely lacking resources.
So, I would disagree with the statement that Canadians are happy with the system. No one I know is.
The same thing can be said for the heath system here in the USA. In fact there is actually video of a woman dying in a waiting room on the floor while doctors just walk right by her. All of my friends in Canada claim to be satisfied.. In my area of US Missouri nobody I know is happy. I have known several people with insurance that have lost everything and filed bankruptcy due to outstanding medical bills. At least you don't have to worry about that on top of your loss like we do here.

The first question that someone asks in the US when they are sick is, oh God, how are we going to pay for this. That shows no respect for human life. A lot of people die in the US. I have experienced the US and German systems, and I saw little difference in the care. The UK has some issues. Maybe Canada does too. But the US is the least humane because it excludes and punishes people who need help.
The US does NOT exclude people from health care. It is illegal in the US to deny someone health care. And our quality of care is higher, the waits are MUCH shorter, and the poor pay only what they can afford. The costs are shifted to the middle class.

Regarding drugs- I am currently living in the U.S., and a U.S. Citizen, but the chemotherapy regimen I am on was developed by the NHS in Great Britain, so don't tell me there would be no further development of drugs. Also, 29 of the top 50 drug manufacturers in the world are outside the U.S. The U.S. manufacturers might have to settle for 10s or 100s of millions in profits via NHS, instead of billions (oh,the horror!), but most will not go under.
Manufacturing drugs outside of the US is not the issue. Selling drugs in the US is the issue. No drug company would survive without the profits they make IN THIS COUNTRY.

People still have the right to basic health care. Not everything is covered here in Ontario, Canada where I live. For example, I still have to pay $75 if I need an eye exam. But, if someone is dying of cancer, they deserve the same health care regardless of economic class. And, without racking up a huge, unaffordable debt.

You are correct. I would only add that the care of doctors that you mention should also include nursing care and the advanced technology available in the US and the amount of it.
I am all for a private health care option if some believe it can be competitive. But it must be designed in a manner that provides FAIR competition. This is not the case with the current plan. The current public plan shifts the costs to the private plans and can do so without limit. It has no intent on coexisting, rather it seeks to drive out free competition and will result in a socialization of HC and subsequent HC rationing. It must leech since socialism isn't as efficient.

I'm well aware of that fact. The entire system would have been impossible to implement if it didn't even managed to do such a basic thing. But you ask yourself this. How many times a week do you think a doctor have to find some ad hoc solution to treat someone without insurance for something they really need to get treated? Like very early stage cancer or potential hereditary illnesses? And how often do you think these ad hoc solutions are stopped further up the chain?

Well you are assuming Health Care companies will give up and not lower there already high prices and bad service to keep their business going. Government had to get involved because the people asked for it, the people who pay their salaries asked for it, they voted Obama into Office for it. The people want that alternative, maybe you don't and under Obama you will be able to keep ur insurance and maybe even pay lower prices so the insurance companies keep you as a client.
As I've said numerous times here. In your perfect liberal world where government is just another competitor that would be great. But the depth of how much control Obama wants is the issue. Under his plan business will drop private/employee insurance because those businesses know that people can just go on the government plan. So in the end people will be forced on the govt plan. It is true that very few here believe that the American system is one that Canada should adopt.
That said, our system is in horrible shape. People die on waiting lists. I have lost two people due to ridiculous wait times, one being my grandfather.. That is not a lie. You can wait months to see a specialist where I live, months for an MRI, months for surgery. We are severely lacking resources.
So, I would disagree with the statement that Canadians are happy with the system. No one I know is.

The same thing can be said for the heath system here in the USA. In fact there is actually video of a woman dying in a waiting room on the floor while doctors just walk right by her. All of my friends in Canada claim to be satisfied.. In my area of US Missouri nobody I know is happy. I have known several people with insurance that have lost everything and filed bankruptcy due to outstanding medical bills. At least you don't have to worry about that on top of your loss like we do here.

The first question that someone asks in the US when they are sick is, oh God, how are we going to pay for this. That shows no respect for human life. A lot of people die in the US. I have experienced the US and German systems, and I saw little difference in the care. The UK has some issues. Maybe Canada does too. But the US is the least humane because it excludes and punishes people who need help.

Regarding drugs- I am currently living in the U.S., and a U.S. Citizen, but the chemotherapy regimen I am on was developed by the NHS in Great Britain, so don't tell me there would be no further development of drugs. Also, 29 of the top 50 drug manufacturers in the world are outside the U.S. The U.S. manufacturers might have to settle for 10s or 100s of millions in profits via NHS, instead of billions (oh,the horror!), but most will not go under.

I'm a Canadian citizen and this is laughable. Look at the numbers. The United States ranks 37th in the world's health systems, behind all the countries mentioned. The rest of the world sits and watches in awe how American politicians try (and succeed) to convince some American people that the government helping to cover everybody in the country is a bad thing.
Clearly, what your doing now isn't really working. Well, not for everyone.

People still have the right to basic health care. Not everything is covered here in Ontario, Canada where I live. For example, I still have to pay $75 if I need an eye exam. But, if someone is dying of cancer, they deserve the same health care regardless of economic class. And, without racking up a huge, unaffordable debt.
Companies should not be making profits off of people's health.

I am all for a private health care option if some believe it can be competitive. But it must be designed in a manner that provides FAIR competition. This is not the case with the current plan. The current public plan shifts the costs to the private plans and can do so without limit. It has no intent on coexisting, rather it seeks to drive out free competition and will result in a socialization of HC and subsequent HC rationing. It must leech since socialism isn't as efficient.

We won't save money. That much is obvious. When in the history of government has socialism saved money. Socialism is an untenable system and ALWAYS results in lower efficiency and higher cost. The free markets do it best. Socialism is in fact one of the PROBLEMS we need to address. We certainly don't need MORE of it. The government can't even run the DMV and you want them running our health care?

This is not the case. The facts bare out the opposite. This plan in its current form will result in a fully socialized system. It bares no resemblence to competition. It shifts the burden of cost from the public option to the private option without limit. It must as the government system is inherently LESS effficient as is always the case. The end result will be the socialization of health care and the eventual rationing of care. It will destroy the highest quality HC system in the world.

I'm well aware of that fact. The entire system would have been impossible to implement if it didn't even managed to do such a basic thing. But you ask yourself this. How many times a week do you think a doctor have to find some ad hoc solution to treat someone without insurance for something they really need to get treated? Like very early stage cancer or potential hereditary illnesses? And how often do you think these ad hoc solutions are stopped further up the chain?

Well you are assuming Health Care companies will give up and not lower there already high prices and bad service to keep their business going. Government had to get involved because the people asked for it, the people who pay their salaries asked for it, they voted Obama into Office for it. The people want that alternative, maybe you don't and under Obama you will be able to keep ur insurance and maybe even pay lower prices so the insurance companies keep you as a client.

Under his plan business will drop private/employee insurance because those businesses know that people can just go on the government plan. So in the end people will be forced on the govt plan. The US health care quality is so far ahead of the socialized countries it isn't even questionable. Every major study has shown our health care to be #1. The problem we need to address isn't one of quality. It is one of cost. There are many issues that relate to the cost of health care in the US. Partial socialism is already one of them. Other issues involve the socialist systems leeching off of the US system. We also need insurance reform perhaps as well as tort reform.

People and business SHOULD continue to spend money to improve alternative energies but they should not be FORCED to do it through high taxes on business. This is why the global warming hoax is pushed by the left so much. The more fear they can instill in people about how bad the planet is the more people will want gov't to force spending on alternative energies. Again people should spend on alternatives engergies but NOT forced to do so.
