  • @loverofpie32 the point is they can go there without being frightened on a mac. PCs are a crime ridden area

  • @alanbstard4 I can go anywhere without being frightened on my pc too because i know the right anti-viruses to use, and they're free too

  • theres about 30 million apple iphones & computers out there. Enough fro an enterprizing virus maker. Yet nothing?

  • @alanbstard4

iPhones comprise around 1/4 of the market. RIM comprises another 1/4, and Android beats them both with 50% share. Macintosh computers comprise 6% of the worldwide market share, with Windows machines hovering around 92.27%. 30 million may sound like a lot, but it's absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. It is still the equivalent of a pickpocket plying his trade on Sunday morning on the sidewalk.

  • @MaestroDraven re the iphones. I think after record sales you may have to revise those figures. Mac computers are still the minority, but they are selling better. They never will sell as many as PC

  • @alanbstard4

Record sales mean very little, my friend . The iphone 4 sold like hotcakes when it came out, but they're still pushing half the momentum of the Android platform, which is so far unstoppable. Mac sales are increasing, yes, but depending on whom you speak to, the numbers aren't exactly breathtaking. If independent research firms are to be believed, then Apple has risen only 1%-2% in global market share over the last 5 years. That's extremely unimpressive.

  • i am aware macs get viruses * I have fixed enough of them to know that first hand* I'm mainly saying that "macs get viruses too" for the people who say "macs are better cause they don't get viruses" to which i say bull-flop and that is why i also said it's probably easier to make anti virus/spywhere/ect to fix it then say for a closed system like windows. *and when i say windows is closed i mean it's core programing, not the OS itself.*

  • and even though the stuff i see on mac tends to downplay any problems it has im sure it has issues as well. nothing is perfect and everything has at least some issues. and yes i agree that the whole PC VS MAC *which should be retitled WINDOWS Vs MAC* is silly and ruins real talks about what can be done to improve both systems.

  • hmm ok first off im pretty sure that mac has more then 5-10% of the computer market so that argument is null and void. however if it is as open as people say it is then i can see how making anti virus/spyware for it would be easier to do then say for windows where very few people actually see the core.

  • @Dragonking1984

    There are viruses for Macs,

There are also antiviruses for them.

  • @Dragonking1984

Worldwide Mac market share is around 4%-6%. 9 independent research companies have pretty much agreed that Mac market share is below 5%, as they do not even include it in their numbers because 5% is considered irrelevant. More generous sources can only manage around 6% market share. Considering that 5 years ago, Mac market share hovered around 4.7% worldwide, those are pretty dismal numbers.

  • My favorite argument for Mac vs. PC is this:

    PC stands for Personal Computer.

A Mac is a personal computer.

    Apple says PCs get viruses.

    Mac=PC

    Apple says Macs get viruses.

  • macs suck

  • I think the real reason why you so call Pc lovers are always complaining is because...#1 you can't afford a Mac or #2 you just been using Pc's for so long, you are to afraid to switch because of what your friends might say about you. so my thing is, if you don't like something, why use it's applications like iTunes or Quicktime. so keep in mind, if you don't to much care for Windows media player. you don't like Pc's your self.

  • @BIGBPRODUCTIONS100 That has got to be the most ridiculous statement I have heard. #1- Overpriced for hardware quality and software quality, I can build myself a Hackintosh for the price of a windows PC if i wanted a Mac so badly. #2- What could your friends possibly say about you for changing computer OS's, like seriously? The only reason people use iTunes is because its the best way to access an iPod due to Apple's obsessive need for a closed system. And who the fuck uses Quicktime??

  • @manurules333 I remember I had to download Quicktime for a few games back during 1995-2000, but now I really only use it for opening .gif pics with movement. Which reminds me, time to find a .gif viewer that isn't a laggy mess, if that's possible.

  • @manurules333 I'm building a Hackintosh now, but it still requires Apple OS. That is what makes it better than a PC, but it still is not a Mac pro

  • @BIGBPRODUCTIONS100 There's something called winamp, much nicer than any other media player.

  • Utter tripe

  • why don't Mac get viruses? easy cause majority of people use PC, no one want to make a virus for a computer on which barely anyone uses, % wise, hackers and virus makers have better opportunity to get at people on PC because there is just that many more people using PCs, oh and guess what macs do get viruses too hell even my computer tech prof get it and he's starting to complain about it. but every computer gets viruses, just PC has more users and will be attacked more often.

  • idiots!every system gets viruses,if mac cant get viruses then why windows is first in popular?why there is a name called windows and microsoft?

  • @Macprogrammar Virus' are made for the lulz, so they don't care who they aim it at..

  • Sounds great on paper, but people don't live in a theoretical world.

The bottom line is that using a Windows machine means CONSTANT exposure to viruses, and using Linux is really only practical for very technically proficient people.

Macs may or may not have the most securely designed OSs, but for all intents and purposes they run far more smoothly than the competition, and so, really for most people, they are the only practical choice.

  • Ive Had A Mac For Over a Year and i Download Movies and Music Every Day That Lets Say Im Not Suppost To Be.. And I Havent Gotten A Virus.... I Had A PC For About 5 Month Doin The Same WITH A Anti Virus Program And It Got A Virus!

  • @iLoveDJPatron what a load of bs, i've used a pc without any anti virus download movies and games and shit from the web and doesn't get any viruses for the last iuno since january?

  • so wait do they or they dont get viruses???

  • @IXxRGExXI they dont get viruses because no one wants to make a virus to 10 percent of all computers

  • I've had the same Mac laptop since 2005, an iBook G4. The only "problem" I've ever had with it is when I mistakenly poured orange juice directly into the keyboard.

I've never installed virus software, and I've never had a virus. Right now my dad is at the computer store spending lots of money to get his brand-new HP fixed on account of a virus.

  • @bensmith3200

    =.="

he could fix it with a decent and FREE antivirus such as avast. malwarebytes is also a very good addition to any antivirus. and i can beat that. I have a windows 98se that never got a virus cuz I ALWAYS USE AN ANTIVIRUS. btw, without any protection, u are open to keyloggers, phishing sites, worms, tracking cookies, and other malware.

  • the Virus writers know that Steve jobs had already too much for the Imac range of over priced under powered computers. Sorry more like a Monitor with a tiny 2 year old computer low spec attached being passed as latest technology. The Mac OS X and windows 7 64 bit are good (vista SxxT) . Buy Any monitor over 300 quid, you get 3 year warranty-. Imacs should have a 3 year warranty as default if they are so reliable.

  • I have had different virusscanners for my crappy old PC. So why not get one for my new and way more expensive Macbook Pro. I wanna keep that shit clean man.

  • they do get viruses. but not as much as windows. just dont watch porn or download cracked versions

  • blah, blah macs don't get viruses...yeahh they do ,if they didn't why do companies make anti virus programmes for macs?.Such a concieted and arrogant view surely would make a virus designer want to make a virus for the Mac OS system.

  • Actually, the first virus ever made was on an Apple computer.

  • Can somebody say Fanboys..?

  • my mac has a virus so hah beatch

  • @fleshhound88 what virus?

  • @fleshhound88 Maybe you just dropped it one-too many times...

  • Mac without viruses is myth !

  • Um you said BSD is a form of Linux, don't you mean UNIX?

  • any computer access to the internet can get a virus

  • it's "Merry Christmas" not "happy holiday"

  • Why dont they get viruses? hmm lets see...the same reason why there are tons of emulators for the Playstation 1 but only 1 for the Atari Jaguar. One sucked as a console and the other one didn't. PC is better than Mac you can debate it til the cows come home but its the truth im afraid especially when it comes to gaming unless you like games made by Blizzard or the Sims 3... :/ but yeah anyway more people use PC so hence why theres more viruses, why would you hack a system no one uses? lol

  • Mac's can't get viruses because it runs in BSD. This means it's only vulnerable by Java Exploits. Which are also vulnerable for PC's Just run Onyx and clean All caches and temporary files.

  • Most mac users are the uneducated dumb gulible(who won't to gulible enough to pay 2x for a computer) fools who would open stuff and download crap, so they spead that way....

  • Why don't macs get viruses? Hmmm, silly question to be honest... That's kinda like asking, "Why arn't these retards on this crap channel, biased, wanker dick head retards?" And "Why do these retarded wanabes know so much about technology?". You get the point....

  • 3 o clock! thats early!

  • @wanker222222 hav u ever had one before?

  • that BSD is a form of linux killed me inside.

BSD and Linux though similar (and using the same graphical enviroments) are very different.

  • one reason is because of flash

  • rrr

  • MAC FANBOY NUB TV! YAY!

  • you sirs are idiots, every OSs have viruses Mac, Linux, BSD,Windows,Solaris w/e

and if you dont use a AV your just stupid sorry, then again with out people like you we the people who fix PCs wouldnt have so much jobs, so thank you

  • Just, because the possibility is like 5% to have a virus or some bad program doesn't mean it can't get viruses. There are viruses for mac, but more rare.

  • As mach2motocross stated, MAC's are always the first to get hacked at the expos.

  • when getting linux install these apps: no scrpt

, adblock plus , flash block

  • since when is BSD linux? Pretty sure its UNIX.

  • IDIOTS IDIOTS IDIOTS ! ! !

  • Based on LINUX ? I think NOT.... BSD is Unix. Linux is Unix like...

  • correction: macs dont get windows viruses

no idiotic hacker would make a virus for macs. macs only make up about 10% of computer users. hmmm make something for 1 person or 9 people?...

  • @seyjune That argument is absolutely terrible. Please stop perpetuating that line of logic.

    Hackers hack EVERYTHING. Absolutely everything.

THe reason macs do no have many viruses is that apparently it is very difficult to write viruses for a UNIX based OS.

  • @Stickmaleboy

ACTUALLY, the real reason is a combo of yours and seyjune's reasons. Hackers don't want to take the time or effort to write viruses for Macs because the time put into it, and the effort expended, simply is not worth the small range of targets (i.e.: 10-15% of users). It's not that Macs cant have viruses written for them, its just that it's in no way worth to effort. Once Macs REALLY gain in popularity, you'll see that change.

  • @seyjune Correction: Macs do get Windows virus but it isn't executable on the mac OS. So technically, it is just an empty data you get but you could be a carrier and affect other Windows users by spreading the virus. You are correct about your other points. I also want to add that Macs are a bit harder to exploit than Windows based PCs due to the Kernel they use.

  • @seyjune which is why you should get a mac.

  • @seyjune When we are talking about malicious virus that is meant to spread then no, there aren't any hacker who would actually see that much effort to design Mac virus.

Most Mac viruses I ran into are either funny or annoying for example one made screen freeze and opened video clip where polar bear dances, after minute or so, one hunter comes and shoots the bear and all is back to normal.

In my opinion, reason why macs don't have so many (serious) viruses, is because of popularity of PC

  • The biggest pile of crap I ever heard. It has nothing to do with market share at all!! I don't use Mac... I use Linux but the basis is similar. The main reasons for windows having more viruses is this. 1. It has the ability to execute programs that will affect/infect the entire OS from just a single click. 2. It has a registry where viruses can hide and can't be detected my anti-virus programs no matter how much updating you do unless scanned by an external program. 3. A single user platform :)

  • @seyjune

See that's the big deal. This is what many people think. But what about that mac is used for people who usually do business. Do you want an mac big miljonair hacked or do you want a silly shopworker? And another thing. There are some things that use the same basic programming language on mac. iPod's, iPhone's and iPad's, if you got a virus for mac you can go from the computer to these things. And iPhone's are for about 30% of the market used. And that it growing!

  • @seyjune

    More like 6% actually.

  • Mac OS X was hacked in 2006 less than 30 minutes, and within 2 minutes in a contest in 2008, and within 10 seconds in 2009. In 2008, Linux and Vista were not hacked until another day when restrictions were lowered. Vista was next, and then Linux. In 2009 Windows 7 fell shortly after the Mac but Linux was unscathed.

  • @Mach2Motocross i hacked a mac in 4hours :) and im just an ordinary guy who uses a PC!

  • wow i dont say this much but these guys are very very stupid 1st macs have and can get viruses 2nd darwin is open source but other components are closed source. 3rd

bsd is not linux they are unix which makes them more stable windows nt yes dipshit it still NT is completely closed source and really no one looks at the source code at all so there are thousands maybe millions of exploits just in the kernel now mac osx is not entirely open source so exploits are there not maybe YES THEAY ARE

  • i would say macs can get viruses if they are contactet with online or other pcs- But u dont know that because a mac user is so arrogant that he things my system cant get a virus and thats not right at all only thing that happenes is that mac maybe got some better firewalls thats all. So the windows virus gets into a mac system and maybe cant infect it for shure because there is no compatible file for the virus, one thing maybe is the jpg format or the mp3 format that is to find on both systems

  • Macs = no gaems; Linux = no drivers; Windows = no security. Take your pick.

  • Honestly... I bet you never even used linux before and I bet your going off on some comment someone made on the internet...

A ton of Linux distro's have drivers for most hardware you use... You don't even need to download them or install them since they are already located in the distro's package....

Ubuntu, slackware, suse and redhat should have most drivers made up for them...

The only big problem with Linux are printers... Since most printers use GDI instead of psl or ps.

  • Actually I have and do use Linux. And it's not just printers that often lack driver support or full driver support; it's wireless routers, wireless mice and other peripherals, and sometimes sound cards. Anyhoo, nice try though.

  • Sun

  • @dnddays hehe os's in a nutshell

  • lol hes right even though windows is very in secure macs are starting to get games now they have 25% of the market

  • macs dont get viruses because nobody uses them!! hackers dont want to make a virus that nobody will get...

  • wat a tard you need to just look at sales and i can tell you why they dont get them you want to now repaly and i will tell you ok you pc dick

  • u must admit the guys comment was pretty funny tho

  • Yep, computer viruses are like STD's. You get them by doing dodgy things in the darker corners of the internet.

Mac is the housewifes & OAP's choice, so they rarely catch anything

  • OS X does get malware in the form of trojans. Who ever doesn't know that needs to read.

  • bsd is NOT a form of linux. linux and bsd are based on and were created from UNIX. Macs DO get viruses and there IS antivirus software for macs clamxav is the best mac antivirus. Mac WAS based upon the BSD kernel but now it is a custom kernel because they have changed it so it isn't bsd anymore it is mac.

  • macs dont get viruses because they make up like .000000000000000000001% of the business world

  • You guys are just repeating what they said at the start of the video they have a small market share yes, but Mac OS X is built in unix and if there are virus' which there are from time to time apple can easily release a patch to stop os x from getting infected.

  • Macs are actually less secure than Windows and Linux machines, but don't get viruses because they don't hold enough of a market share. Recent game theory models have shows that at about 20% market share, enough of an incentive to write mac viruses will exists, and mac users will experience a huge influx of new viruses.

  • Macs don't get viruses because nobody wants to create a virus that attacks very very tiny portion of computer users around the world, it's just a waste of time

  • you don't see the joke in my comment?

  • you dont see the joke in my comment?

  • I understand the joke.. But they look at porn too..

But labeling a type of computer to a type of person is misleading..

  • again... it was a joke...

  • os 9 had 2x more viruses as xp and it had like 500 people using it

  • if a kid hacked the iphone, im pretty sure theres a nerd that can create a virus for a mac.....

  • two different OS man and there are viruses for macs but very few

  • Exploits have been found in OS X, but Apple's software update team release a security update within the hour to fix them.

  • PC pays them to create Viruses. And they own big part of Virus Protection sofware companies in the world. They sell PC cheap but it is actually not that cheap. By paying for a virus software you are paying PC back. Mac charges you more up front so they won't have to steal it from you later on. All about money and making more of it. This system is made for making money. They will get rich and richer while you are enjoying your computer and spending freetime instead of doing something better.

  • Mac's are the only computers to piss me off when they claim they are virus free... PC's and Macs both use 1010001 and what not for their programs. i have also seen Macs suffer from virus, albeit they are very rare. If your gonna write a virus to attack millions, you write one for Windows. If a Mac was the most used OS, then Macs would suffer from virus instead of windows

  • A little more to add to your explanation, that 1010001 you were talking about is binary code and that is not what the operating system uses. The OS is an easy way to change a GUI into binary and is not binary it self. Windows uses DOS which is more succecpitable to .exe (the vast majority of viruses out there use this) when a mac is based on the unix kernel. The virus manipulates what the os changes into binary and submits to the computer and on a .exe it can just pop up, mac need conformation.

  • But it's still possible. Once virus makers figure it out, they can make all the mac viruses they want.

  • Not true.

  • macs get viruses but nobody wants to give macs viruses because if they give pcs viruses then they infect millions if they infect macs they infect 1000s because pcs have 90 percent of the market. macs are only good for artistic people but other than that they suck.oh and they are overpriced and their commercials LIE. apples get viruses

  • be prepared mac users , Soon you'll get a surprise in your mac computers.

A team called satte have been working on your present , When the coders have big amount of people infected they are going to active the virus and all macs connected to the internet and are infected by this Virus! , your system will crash as normal but! it won't be back alive .

    koobah.

  • ok I dont think that "Virus" if it exists will infect all Macs in the world the district of my school is such a B****H they blocked everything, for example YouTube, Myspace, addictinggames any games actually, and game downloads...ect. Theres nothing available other than educational sites like nettrecker and search engines: Google and Yahoo, nothing else, so it will block that , but if it did infect them that oughta teach them not to block everything.

  • Windows NT kernel is a actually very complete system. Its the extra stuff that make it easier.

FreeBSD is actually a form of Unix not Linux.

The more eyes better protection theory is a very flawed theory.

  • My opinion on why Macs don't get viruses is because Macs are complete. You see Steve Jobs (Mac) and Bill Gates (Microsoft) were working together to make a computer well Bill Gates stoll Steve Jobs idea on the computer and then went off and made Microsoft. But Steve was not finished with the Mac that's why they came out later. So Macs are more complete and Microsoft is not so it is easier to hack into a Microsoft rather than a mac.

  • your a fool who believes anything he hears and then pretends like hes smart

  • They have less viruses, like a shorter nail, than Windows. But as Macs become more popular, that small nail will probably grow, as it becomes more worth while to creat viruses for Macs.

  • macs do get viruses

look it up b4 you post up a video saying that they don't and looking like a dumbass

  • yes they do but they dont get them as much as microsoft

  • thats what i'm saying :)

people think the macs are virus free and you have no worries

but, there are, watch out you porn watchers :D

  • crap, lol, thats me

  • lol XD

  • How come porn always has lots of viruses?

  • haha

  • because a lot of people like to watch porn

  • @brandikins11

because millions of people are looking at it right now

  • @brandikins11

Because loads of people download porn and the people who give free porn need to make money. So they see that as a good target audience

  • @brandikins11 Because there are lots of sleazy porn sites, and sleazy sites are most likely to have viruses

  • @brandikins11 because guys get so excited that they click on anything. lol

  • @brandikins11 im not sure, but its prob the most looked at sites in the world

  • WTF mac get viruses and there are viruses, google it.

  • Mac users really have the false sense of security. Much as Linux/FreeBSD can get viruses (even without root access), Macs are just as susceptible. However, their strength is in the lack of numbers. If it were reversed, I am willing to bet that Macs would be just as susceptible.

  • Who wouldn't love to be known as the first person to write a successful mac os x virus, you would go down in the hall of fame. Studies have shown that most mac user are better off because the pay more to own a mac, wouldn't people want to go after these rich people and take their credit card info. Who wouldn't love to be able to write a successful virus and not a trojan for a mac that took important info form the rich, so what's stopping Them?

  • Haha. As a Macbook owner who got his computer refurbished, I'd have to agree with that.

If I were the type of jerk who wrote viruses, my intention wouldn't be to just spread my virus willy-nilly to the most amount of people via windows.

Instead, I would go for those snobby Mac a-holes, with their lattes and their black turtlenecks.

I LOVE my Macbook, but I'm not so naive as to think that It's impervious. I get pop-ups too.

Virus designers: leave the masses alone and go for the rich!

  • what mac book do you have i have the pro, well its not mine its my parents but i use it most of the time im using it right now writing this comment oh did you know that the desk top macs have HD screens?

  • I was thinking no one used them....

  • just less likely, like the video explains.

  • macs get viruses end of story. the big difference is that on windows you are a true admin and can modify the core os files, & on unix based systems(mac osx) you cant mess up the core so viruses cant either, you have to be logged in with root account, when u create an acount on mac osx u are just a user, not root user, so viruses can only modify your files, so your operating system is not harmed/modified. i would go for linux if you know how to work the os and modify it to your standards.

  • I'm sure its possible for macs to get viruses, but it seems to be very rare.: I've had a Mac for 4 years. Half that time I didn't even have an antivirus program; when I did I hardly ever ran it and I did it never found a single problem. I did all the things you can get viruses from- downloaded music, went to porn sites, online TV/movies, etc.. My mac's in the shop (non-virus related), & I borrowed a PC. Within a week (with Norton) it had 3-4 viruses & I had to reformat the hard drive.

  • they now have 21% of the market share

  • they are wrong because when there was os 9 it had like 6 percent market share and it was virus written and os x has like 14 percent market share no viruses a few

  • no i dont think so

  • i saw a girl get a virus on her mac literally 10 minutes after she was bragging in my graphic design class about how macs can't get viruses.

    it was pretty amazing.

  • That is awesome. I'm waiting for my over-confident friend with a MacBook to get a virus. It will be so awesome. She loves to brag about how 'awesome' it is.

  • Agreed. lol.

  • @amerikanzero Yeah, right. How do you know it was a virus? Macs don't get viruses. They just don't get them. OS X has better Unix security features. Not only that, but there just aren't any known viruses in the wild for the Mac. The only way you're going to get viruses is through the internet. Viruses have to spread. Viruses just don't spread from Mac to Mac. It's useless to even own Anti-Virus software if you own a Mac.

  • @blicksflicks Hehe pretty funny troll, Thumbs up, you made my day ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @happygamestvfun1 It's true. Macs just don't get viruses. There aren't any known viruses in the wild for Mac. You can count the malware on one hand, and you still have to enter your admin name and password to willingly install the junk. Anti-virus on a Mac is really only needed to protect PC users from Windows viruses. Macs just don't get viruses, because OS X has better security features.

  • How come OS9 with small market share has a lot of virus, now that OSX has more market share but less virus??

  • my vista nothing can crash it i had 39 trojans nothing hapend it didnt effect anything on my computer i just deleted later whis avg

  • Ahhh... Be nice to have it for home use. Interesting, eh?

  • Very interesting

  • Macs do have viruses, only reason people claim they can't get viruses is because there aren't as many people using the Mac, so the Mac is not safe from viruses it's just less likely to get them, if you were really computer geeks you should know that

  • illage2, I've gotten maybe one virus since buying my Mac nearly two years ago. Also, I'm not even sure if it was that malicious, because supposedly there's this virus for Macs that's harmless. Funny thing it was. I sent my Mac to Apple for a Logic Board failure, and they sent it back infected with this virus. It was pretty funny. I removed it after that. I guess they knew I had Virus Barrier X and decided to help feel like it was worth buying a virus scanner. lol

  • it's funny, i love the work u guys are in but I hate the people that are in the work your in! Mostly cuz on my way to the top of the IT world, computer geeks are smart ass nerds that get revenge on the people that beat them up in high school by letting them know they know everything about computers and you don't. But maybe u guys are different....

  • Free BSD is a form of Unix, not Linux.

  • what about the lack of malware and spyware n a mac

  • Free BSD is a form of Unix, not Linux.

  • Simple. What about the lack of interest in Macs across the board? Why would crackers or malware writers waste their time writing virus or malware code that may never get activated due to lack of interest in their target platform.

  • Well, basically, the major, major reason Macs don't have as many viruses as Macs do is because even the files themselves are admin password protected. If you seek to change anything on a Mac's file structure, you must enter an admin password to install, remove or anything else. I like that on my Macbook Pro. Not many people are going to brute force a sixteen character/numeric length password. On Windows, installation is not password protected, and it's much easier to install a server virus.
