Yes I agree w/ the second top comment. This is something that we shouldn't have to pay for; we were already robbed, now we have to pay (quite a bit, might I add) for this to be done. It is also important b/c us Africans here in America have lost our identity here-- we have no clue who we truly are. Also, I've been a student for several years now, and although I've been looking into my family heritage since high school, I have yet to be able to do this.
If we do have to pay for it, I think we should support a black run company like African Ancestry.com because they are not just another DNA family tracing company, but their purpose is to restore the African in America not just give DNA results.
He's also one of the friendliest professional athletes you'll ever meet. I've talked to him a couple times after games and he's very polite, accessible and respectful. Despite being absolutely massive (6'9", 260 lbs.) he doesn't come across intimidating at all in person, actually he seems almost gentle in nature. A real cool cat.
Wow, this is pretty cool. I am happy that Black folks can trace their ancestry now. You all deserve it. I'm happy for you all. I am American of European descent particularly Spain and France. I know my ancestry from oral history of elderly family members, from the Canary Islands of Spain, off the coast of North Africa and Central West France. But I want to take one of these tests regardless of what I know. Also, I want to take an autosomal test to see if I have any other racial admixtures in me.
I took mine with 23andMe, a genetic company in California. My Paternal side traces back to Nigeria. My Maternal side traces back to Polynesian Native Americans. It also showed my autosomal DNA makeup: 71% African, 22% European, and 6% Asian (1% got lost in rounding).
@akin242002 that sounds about right black americans have about 70% percent african dna from west africa because of the slave trade and the rest is composed of the different ethnic groups that interracted with the slaves and their progeny over the centuries..
Black were taken from all over west africa and have dna linking them to many different groups all across the coast from senegal to angola but generally speaking.
congratulations on finding out about your African ancestry if you want to know more about who we are read the book titled from Babylon to Timbuktu by Rudolph Windsor you can find it on amazon . com it shows the history of the people from Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Gambia, Yoruba, Senegal, Angola, Nigeria, Dahomey, Gold Coast (Ghana), upper Volta, Ivory Coast, Toga, Mali, San Thome, Gabon, Congo,
@brownryda . At least society of today accept a black than a JIHADIST like you. At least we hold the presidency and the Hollywood in USA .A JIHADIST will just await for the bombing of F-16 to go to ALLAH. You should be wondering about your poor Palestinian brothers and sisters and the trashy SOMALIA and SUDAN and PAKISTAN,IRAK AFGHANISTAN ETC... Don't forget though you live in UK,the world will always take you as a JIHADIST because of your Pakistan background. Mi5 in UK will tell u more.
@brownryda blacks and browns have roots from WEST-AFRICA (a beautiful place on earth ) . It's a privilege to be black in a world that hate JIHADIST and embrace a black president. A black will move freely in this world,a PAKISTANI will always be stripped and search for weapon or bomb wherever he goes .You don't realize how LOW people of your background are treated around the world .Do you know how many bomb is dropped on your people everyday? OBAMA is a christian. you are empty-prideful naive
I think he is writing a book in regards to this as well. When you try to research your history especially if you're from an African nation because all of the results are so sketchy
i think it's like that bc of the mitochondria or something..depending on your maternal side thats who you are..most ppl think it depends on what the father is..just my opinion

since every human is essentially african, why does it really matter the roots of a person? they are some people that don't identify as african but are black (i.e. black south americans or dominicans, haitians, etc.) and yet, they have a different culture at this point. my point is, culture changes, it's part of life.
i just think Obama should make sure people can and will know their roots without paying for it... america should pay for at...cuz they took it from the people.
It's not fair to let the people pay for something thats been stolen from them.
I'm from a meltingpot called Surinam. and they told me I'm from Ghana actually, but there is no proof. The Dutch gouvernment should pay up for a test like this
i am gonna have mine done in february next year, i gotta settle for the paternal test.I cleary know where i am from i am african then my family moved like 13 times across the continent, my current ethnicity is just about 250 years old and the african language i speak is a blend of about 5 other languages,my motivation, i happen to look about like any random black dude, across 3 continents people feel they have seen me, here there , everywhere.People regulary pin about 28 nationalities on me.
I took an ancestry DNA test too! It was definitely worth the money.
I took it for my paternal side so far. I'm African-American, BTW. I've always had an affinity with Indian people, and Indian culture for some reason. I never understood why, untill I got my results back and found out that part of my paternal ancestry traces back to India.
They say 90 something % of African American males who get the test paternal genetics come out European. I think mostly b/c i got the test done and mine came out of brittain, spain, germany, and the netherlands. My maternal came out mafe, hide, and tikar peoples living in cameroon.
That's non sense.... 90%?? It's 35%! You act as if you're glad to find out you're white... I pray to god I have non of that devil blood running through my veins!
...cont'd.... It needs to be a fully funded program that is free to us.
