  • Hey, nice video! I'm going to go spearfishing in the Bahamas for the first time soon, and was wondering if you could give me some tips, and let me know if there's any precautions I can make to be safe from sharks. Thank you!

  • @peanutmaster1231

Hey bud! I hope you have a great time in the Bahamas and get plenty of fish! As far as I know you're only allowed to use pole spears or hawaiian slings in the Bahamas, no spearguns....

Sharks are a part of spearfishing, especially in the tropics! Diving with other people is good in sharky areas, that way you can watch each others backs. If you're diving alone, don't burley and do your best to shoot the fish in the brain or spine, that way the sharks won't be as keen!

  • @underseaash Thank you for responding so quickly! I'm going with a friend, so I'll be with other people. And the thing he has is a Hawaiian sling, I didn't know there was a difference between spear guns and hawaiian sling. Thanks again!

  • that is some nice king fish there>>

  • haha you are nuts doing that in WA, whites everywhere

  • Excellent footage from the best country on earth.I admire your guts spearfishing in our wild waters. I gotta ask you, are you paranoid of noahs with all the blood, burley and big fish giving off the i'm injured message in the open ocean? I'm a Soth Aussie and spent most of my youth spearfishing and fishing off our coast but have had a couple of frightening experiences with sharks. How do you overcome this fear in our part of the world?

  • @SouthernCross33

Thanks chief! This vid was filmed at a very sharky spot!

The fear of sharks depends on where we're diving. I find diving up north not too bad because it's mostly whalers and tigers (still can be bastards!). Diving along the coast south of Geraldton increases the chances of bumping into a white which definately plays on my mind, more now than ever (3 fatal attacks in WA in 2 months...) Offshore, the reward of big fish pushes the fear to the back of my mind...

  • Good

  • This looks like a blast!

  • Hey mate, love the vid and admire the catch...

Why dont you like Samsonfish to eat? Ive only ever shot them around the 60cm mark cause thats as big as they get around the central coast NSW but theyve always been nice eating. Im sure compared to Mackerel they may not be as delicious but I couldnt imagion burleying one up lol Theres Sweep and Luderic for that here :) Spose its all relative...

Hope your not taking the likes of YAYAIL to heart hahaha internet doesnt deny access to the ignorent lol

  • @bluesirsanchez

Cheers bud, glad you liked it!

As you said, compared to mackerel and wa dhu fish, sambo doesn't cut the mustard... We don't shoot them very often, only if there are no buff bream around as they make better burley anyway.

I don't take anyone's ingnorant comments to heart, some people will never open their mind.

Check out my other vids - underseaash

  • @underseaash

Hahahaha I dont feel any better about you burleying up Bream that I can only imagion would make the paper here lol

It fustrates me so I keep my vids within the group or on my FB page...

Yea I checked out a few of them... love the big sambo chasing the fish on yuor spear hahaha I wish lol

What size shafts are you predominantly using?

Mad to see such fishlife... Ill straight up admit that the amount of fish Ive seen over the past 12yrs is severly less here on the Central Coast :

  • @bluesirsanchez

Most guys over here use 1.3-1.5 railguns with a single 18mm rubber. 7mm shafts and a reel because we don''t get a lot of boat traffic and floatlines suck! Although I used one for years and didn't mind it, until I got a reel.

We don't burley bream, buff 'bream' are actually silver drummer, sooo many of them here and they taste like crap. I've eaten a couple back in NSW and didn't think they were too bad though...

  • @underseaash

Do you ever bend the 7mm shafts? Or do you find that because theyve got a bit more give you dont bend them?

Im going back spearing in Thailand next August and no ones got any definitive advice regarding whether to go the 7 or 7.5mm shaft?

I havnt yet tried a reel but cant go without a float here... rock hopping makes them handy anyway, that and their compulsory now with any club cause a guy got blended by a prop last April in a Sydney comp, hes only just gotten on crutches.

  • @bluesirsanchez Blended, good descriptive term used. Anyway i thought it was law in all of Oz to have the dive float markers, is this not so?

  • @SouthernCross33

Never heard of it being a 'law', its certainly recommended by the USFA and club policy though. It maybe law to use bouys in areas of high boat traffic but then it would be common sense anyway and areas of high boat traffic like harbours your not allowed to spear in anyway

  • Gotten used to the finer things in life :)

How far from Perth do you treck to do the diving you show?

    Is it weekendable?

  • @underseaash WA stand for Washinghton or what?

  • @MrSbronzo

Or what... WA = Western Australia.

  • @MrSbronzo BAHAHAHA spearfishing in Washington??? The only thing you could shoot there is neocon sharks

  • watch out for the red jellies :{ poisonous bastards

  • Got a good laugh out of all the names guys are calling these fish. Mackerel?? Tuna?? All I saw were yellowtail (Seriola Dorsalis). I guess they're called kingfish in Australia, but yellowtail in the U.S. Nice fish.

  • @vancecarriere The first fish is a samson fish, the second is a Yellowtail Kingfish, the 3rd is a Spanish Mackerel(you guys in the US call it a Kingfish), 4th is a Shark mackerel and the last is another Spanish. Different countries have different names for their fish mate.

  • isn't dangerous to be around bleeding fish like that i mean all that blood might attract sharks to the area?

  • @l0oAzizo0l Thats the beauty of spear fishing, u are always looking out or fish and u have a scary gun. Sharks will rarely risk it. He should though be knifing there spines to stop them flapping about.

  • what kind of fish are these?

  • @nickmarvstutzman

Spanish Mackerel, Shark Mackerel and Samson Fish

  • Do you know why they call wahoos "wahoos"? Because when you catch one you say.......

  • great video mate u boys have balls berelying up over there with those big whites cruising around. keep up the good stuff! ps remind those idiots who critisize spearo's that our way is more fish friendly with ZERO by catch

  • I DONT LIKE KIILING

  • @YAYAIL12

As you can see from the movie, I enjoy hunting and eating seafood.

So I gather you don't eat meat or fish, wear leather shoes or eat Jelly? If so good for you, you're making a huge difference. If not, I admire your hypocrisy...

  • @YAYAIL12 so why watch it clown?

  • @YAYAIL12

well unless ur vegan...please shut up :)... he atleast had the decency to put the fish out of its misery immediately after the shot..meanin he didn't allow it to suffer...if u really wanna complain abt cruelty with killin..go KFC of BK or somethin..

  • @YAYAIL12

  • @YAYAIL12 then why watch a spearfishing clip then

  • nice

  • et avec une canne du fil et un jigg, un popper... ? au moin ça permet d'en remettre a l'eau.

  • How much practice does it take to make a hit? Was this relatively easy to learn?

  • nice vid !!

  • beutiful fish!!

  • Can a person make a living doing this?

  • @shindak666 i think so if u shoot it in the right spot and not mess up the fish :D

  • Nice Wahoo

  • Very good video! Nice fish! I love shooting mackrels.

  • Western Australia

  • u sure this is washington? this is bullshit! no such fish here

  • @eauboi HAHAHAHA!!!! it is WA as in Western Australia in Australia. Its ok it is a pretty common mistake.

  • Very good video! Good fish!

  • Very good video! Very good music! Perfect!

  • nice video guys. i was just in seattle but did not get the chance to go spearfish. i am in the keys now and getting some spearfishing in. not as much as i would like to but some is better than none

  • STOP THAT CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Good Video, but why shoot sambos ? they are not a good eating fish unless ur a hardcore crabber that wants them for pot bait, put ur skills to good use and spear some trout or tuskers something GOOD 2 EAT. Thats not spearing u used bearlie for those fish 2, wheres the skill ?.

  • @mattycazam2

Just went to your youtube account and can't see any spearing vids...? Where are the vids of all of your fish?

We use sambo's for dog food and burley. And as you are an expert on freedive spearfishing 'skill', you would know that coral trout are one of the most difficult fish to spear.... pffft

  • @underseaash its soo funny half the people on here are the biggest critics and probably have never touched the water lmao...nicee vid!

  • @mattycazam2

And onother thing to do with sambos: fish chowder. :) tasty

  • @mattycazam2 ummm i dont think u know to much of diving? sambos are good to eat if they dont have worms and little ones like that are sick, and any one worth diving with knows berelying is a very good option to get sambos, macks, yellowtail kings(as shot in this vid), we have even had great white come in for berely, this is a sick vid with very nice and fish, research before u criticise

  • @mattycazam2

hahaha, i agree with underseaash, dont talk about things you dont know about, first of all some sambos do taste good, and if i smoke em they taste just like smoked mackerel, second of all if u knew anything about diving u would know bererlying is a very effective and commonly used method, let see you get in the water, shoot a 25kg mack, bererly or not. also just like to add underseaash, very good vid man, how much did that big macky go? and where abouts was this?

  • where are all the freedivers in washington at? I guess they're a rare bunch in these parts.

  • great fish! excellent shots! awesome camera work

  • Hey I'm gonna be moving to seattle in summer and I'm trying to meet some people to go spearfishing. I live in spokane but have been diving for 10+ years in the pacific, Mediterranean and Aegean waters. If you are a member in spearboard please contact me my nick is @ Aegean.

    Nice video by the way.

  • actually all of you its a shark mackeral

  • @surfskatesail actualy mate , its a spanish mackerel , i had a close look , i thought it was a sharkie aswell , but u rarely see a sharkie that big.....

  • wats the song?

  • @OlracCrisisX actually thats a spanish mackerel

  • what is the fish at 2:20?? a wahoo?

  • @zeusfaber11 its a bluefin tuna
