I picked this game up for $1.99 at the mall the other day, because of Scott Pilgrim, and am I sure glad I did. Definitely a very underrated and cool game.
I hated this game as a kid and I still hate it. The music is oppressive, gameplay terrible, and why does it make that annoying sound when the subtitles are being read every 5 seconds?
OMG I've been looking for this game for so long. I played it when I was like preschool age (a good 18 years ago) but I never knew the title so it was impossible to search for. TYSM for uploading this.
It wasn't until coming across this vid that I realized that I actually owned this title as a no more then a 11 or 12 year old kid. Admittedly I didn't realize back then how much the climbing animation appears to show our hero enjoys humping walls.
Does anyone remember a game where the main character is a kid and there is a woman he buys things from once in a while and sometimes she gets mad and says "You don't have enough money. Quit bugging me" but if you buy alot her eyes sparkle. Anybody know what game i mean? its driving me nuts
@Gmetroid: There are several references to video games in Scott Pilgrim (which is a comic book, not a movie, the movie came after it). Actually, most of it is a reference to retro VGs. "Sex bob-omb" is a pun between "sex bomb" and Super Mario's enemies Bob-ombs. The fights in the movie are pretty video-game like, like boss battles in the games. Scott literally "gests a life", a 1-UP bonus. The it even has 8-bit videogames sound and visual effects. Even the opening titles are made 8-bit style.
@Shendue not to mention the ninja gaiden reference (page 186, 187; book 4) and the numerous games that scott plays. it's implied that scott has a psp go (book 6, near the start), and some title cards (book 4 is sonic 2, book 5 is double dragon (or, at least that's the best guess I can make).
@lookatmeanimator: Yep. "Due" means "Two" in my mother language, italian. Shen-due in fact stands for "Shenmue 2". I chose it as my nickname in a Sega Dreamcast forum a few years ago when i found that both the nickname i commonly used, "Eymerich" and "Shenmue" were already taken. People liked it so i kept using it in other forums and now it's the nickname i use the most.
This company also made Daedalian Opus for the Gameboy. Probably one of the more difficult puzzle games out there. Great fun if you enjoy racking your brain. I still play it to this day.
Wow Thank you so so much for posting this classic game! I thought I was the only kid who had this game! my parents bought it for me on the QVC channel in 1989! I loved this game! I haven't seen it since today! Awesome! ! !
This was the first video game that I ever beat. I must have been 7 or 8 years old. I just played it earlier today and beat it in two hours. God I love this game!
This IS one of the greatest games on the NES. When I think about it, this may have been my first exposure to anime. (the opening cutscene) Very Japanese game, that's why it's so awesome, and wierd. I still get this music stuck in my head sometimes. :)
I remember I had this game. One thing I can never forget is that his friend was hurt and I came back to the same area and his friend end up being a skeleton.
@HalDanGhor Yea, if you immediately climb back down the ladder after leaving the area you can keep watching him decompose, and talk to his dead body. It's great.
Very underrated game. Aside from being unable to complete it, it's a very deep adventure that rivals modern games in terms of difficulty and adventure.
Man my brother and I spent hours and hours trying to figure out what the hell to do in this game. We never even managed to figure out how to buy items and use them. I think this game fucked up my psyche, along with dozens of other horrible NES games. Mystery Quest stands out in my mind.
yes sir! it does!!!!!!!!!!! when i was a kid, i used to beg my friend to let me in to watch him play NES games. He never used to allow me to play (i have felt bad many many days during those days)
The same kind kind of things happened to me too when I was young. However, when I was 9 years old, I bought my own NES, and never again I got this problem. Yes, those games still give me great nostalgy. I hope my vids can take you into a dream world! ;)
One of the few games I required a Game Genie to complete...damn this was hard (for an 8 year old) LOL

@WaffleJesus
It's a dual reference to Mario and also the classic punk band Flipper's "hit" song "Sex Bomb", one of the classic 80's punk songs.
