btw, we make popcorn or puffed rice differently. we use high pressure iron cylinder heated with gas or kerosene burner. while heating, the operator will constantly turn the cylinder. after certain pressure is achieved (there's a small indicator), the burner is set aside and a sack is placed on the mouth of the cylinder. the operator then turn the cover latch off and a big "bang" ensue. there you have your puffed rice.
That's interesting - sounds like the way they make 'Mi Xiang' puffed rice in Taiwan. We have avid of it on YouTube you can watch by searching for 'Mi Xiang'
