  • "WE WEREN'T WAVIN' FOR CELEBRATION" ....haha they deserved to be sunk

  • This happened in Milwaukee, Wi on board a Coast Guard Auxiliary Boat. The Aux Coxswain was clearly at fault no matter how you look at it. He failed to take any and all action necessary to avoid a collision. He was a wanna be that was showing off to the TV crew on board while enforcing a security zone for fireworks. I know I was a Coxswain at station Milwaukee at the time.

  • shit like this pisses me off. its like someone who pulls out to early for a left turn and oncoming traffic not slowing down because its not there fault. who cares whose fault it is if you can avoid a accident or collision then why the fuck not!

  • Thats what you get! lol. Pay more attention next time. Its a good thing no one was hurt

  • There is plenty of stupidity by the civilian boater the USCG is clearly at fault.

I think that was the end of that man's career.

  • USCG skipper should be discharged, using his boats status and authority to force the other to yield.

  • I am a USCG Coxswain, and I think its obvious that this collision was the fault of the 41 coxswain. They were not in a narrow channel, they were not protecting a high value asset, and they were aparently not concerned with risking the lives of the general public. I had hoped to find some explanation to defend our guys here, but, judging from the video alone, there is no excuse.

  • Its my understanding that the civilian boat had the right of way (converging from the right side.) Is this true?

  • @seanlee747 True indeed. But the CG was in a hurry to make sure that someone's flares weren't two days our of time and someone else's class IV throwable wasn't too soft for the new standards even though it is USCG approved anyway. Prolly looking for the guy who used a combination padlock to secure his MSD so they can quiz him about "how can you be sure none of the passengers know the combination?"

  • @polster22

Thanks for your service, it's tough enough on the water w/o this. And you nailed it.

    USCGAux

  • @polster22 really... did you even notice that it was not even a 41... that's the Coast Guard Auxiliary there buddy. But yes it was at fault of the coxswain. Unfortunately the Coast Guard was given a bad rep here, but not at fault to the Coast Guard, this was auxiliary playing cops again...

  • Of course the drive of the civilian boat is a fucking idiot. But you know, the coxswain of that 41 UTB was a dumbass too. He should have cut his engines long before the collision occurred.

  • The coxswain should have adjusted. This was a case of the coxswain being ignorant.

  • CG boat was the Give-Way vessel. The speed boat was the Stand-On vessel. Why did they (CG) not reduce power to avoid the collision? Obviously they saw the other boat.

    Just crazy.

  • Speed boat--Failed to maintain proper lookout-- admits it!

Coast Guard--yells at boat (why? no horn?) but does not take action to avoid collision

Right of way hard to determine but may not have mattered see 1 and 2 above. commenter below is incorrect about military and law enforcement vessels

Amazing to me that the cg did not turn to port or stop engines. ??? (I have been a licensed mariner since 1979)

  • god thats a shit show

  • sure is. The coxswain should have adjusted. This was a case of the coxswain being ignorant.

  • That's one way to board a vessel...friggin' morons.

It seems like the Coasties could have cut hard to port, just from the video. Then again, I have no idea what was beside them.

  • holy shit! i saw something like that happen one time when me and my dad where fishing on our boat in jersey. it was 2 yachts that collided into each other and that was scary as all hell. we called the coast guard on our radio and they were at the scene in 5 minutes, i have respect for the u.s. coast guard.

  • I remember seeing this on the news when it happened. After investigation, the Coast Guard was deemed at fault. I can't seem to find a link now, though.

  • actually thats untrue, any special forces craft has exemption and right of way when the other vessel is more manouverable than the other.

  • That's insane. The CG vessel was the give-way vessel in this case, since they had the other vessel on their starboard side. Yes, the guy on the othert vessel was obviously not paying attention, but on a CG vessel with multiple "professionals", it's hard to believe that kind of lacking in knowledge of the rules. And no, there is NO provision that gives goevernment/military/law enforcement vessels ANY special privleges in the rules - even when responding to an emergency.

  • What would you know??? Obviously nothing

  • Percussionmafia is 100% correct. 72 Col-Regs rule 15,16(a)&(b) where violated. Even though CG was at fault, the speed boat was in violation of rule 5. I know of the laws because Im a USCG approved instructor for training new captains.

  • maybe next time dumass should look around more often before changing corse lol.
