I read the Turkish newspaper reviews of Mr. Malkovich's performances, and they were really quite adoring. This one was an exception. It's truly hilarious, especially translated this way. I like the part about deportation with Turkish delight! But I don't see Mr. Malkovich's sense of humor in his performance. He seems truly angry, and the video in general is loaded with a nasty and humorless sub-text. I found its message disturbing.
@carpentun Well yes, disturbing it is, that we all sign. But it proves, in my humble opinion what a great actor Malkovich is, since he actually LOVES the review and finds it not just funny, but also well written. We rehearsed it with great spirit and no anger. John and all of us believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion. But you know what the beauty of art is? To one person its full of humour, to the other humourless, to one it has a nasty sub-text and to the other its peotry. Peace.
@carpentun I think Malkovich was not angry in this video, it was the 'reviewer' who was really angry. I think this show shared the same logic with The Infernal Comedy, which is that Malkovich just acted as a role on the stage, and when he acted, he was the role, not only himself. In The Infernal Comedy, he was the killer, and in this show, he was the reviewer. We saw he seemed angry, that was because he was casting the reviewer who should be angry. Please forgive my poor English.:)
Could someone PLEASE tell me what's the piece starting at 5:12? It's AMAZING!

As always, very creative. Nice little ditty, too. That bass line reinvents the "dies irae" concept. Rach on, Aleksey. ;-)
