So many singers add too much ornamentation to this aria, but Teresa keeps it simple and I think that really allows the beauty of the aria to shine through. I really respect her a lot for sticking to what's written in the score. This is something she always lived by. I think this shows a lot of respect for the composer.
This is from the Jean-Pierre Ponnelle movie of Barbiere, with the same cast as the DG recording. It sounds as if the recitatives were recorded separately, so that they would match up to the action in the movie. Berganza's great charm and warmth come through here, as well as her effortless, gorgeous singing. She is my favorite Rossini mezzo of all time, and one of my favorite singers ever.
Teresa indeed was, in my oppinion, the best Rossina we know. Which is amazing to me after having a teacher like Lola Rodriguez de Aragon. I don't know anybody who has destroyed more voices than Lola. Specially male voices.
I just finished watching Katherine Jenkins butcher this aria and needed some aural relief. This is like aural and psychological candy after that. I watched this particular DVD a while ago, and still love it now.
I´m in love with her voice. Perfect control of the fiato, the coloratura and the high notes. And an awesome interpretation of the character of Rossina too.

I hate to watch these dubbed movie versions where you don't get to see the artists singing in a realitic way. Her singing is utterly delightful, indeed, but the dubbing is annoyingly fake. I also HATE the staging and her "costume." The director should be slapped silly.
How is it that I'm a senior voice major and have never heard of her before? Her voice is amazing! Oh my goodness! I'm so glad I got to hear her interpretation!
Teresa Berganza studied at the Madrid Conservatory under the direction of Lola Rodrígues Aragón. She´s the best mozartian and rossinian singer ever (in my opinion)!
She´s still alive, don´t worry :) Teresa lives in San Lorenzo de el Escorial, but still travels a lot. She´s doing masterclasses in all the world or acts as member of the jury on some singing competitions. And also from time to time she performs some recital. She´s incredible and I love her so much!!!!!!!
She just gave an absolutely fantastic masterclass to two lucky competitors in the Mirjam Helin singing competition. Her warmth and kindness was adorable and helped the young singers to relax and actually learn something important in just 45 minutes.
I think arias, duets, ansambles are from the audio recording which was recorded before - by Deutsche Grammophon... But maybe recitatives were recorded right on the place during shooting the film. t´s my opiniom, I´m not sure, maybe I´m wrong :)
@MegaBreez It is indeed a recording. Ponnelle's Productions always pre-record the music and then simply act out silently on camera, much like modern music videos.

As a Peruvian I think it's easier for a Spanish speaker to pronunce good Italian than vice versa. In Spanish we have some letters that are unpronunceable for foreigners, like the "j" and the "r" which has two sounds, as in the word "rosario" It's not the same "cero" than "cerro" or "pero" and "perro''
