The reason this is great Hip Hop is because it has the main, basic features of Hip Hop. A great beat. Great deliverance and flow, but most importantly, an amazing message. Hip Hop is about carrying a message of where you are from. In this song Nas brought the message of how where he grew up, and many other places in the world are so negative and bad. Yet, he changed it into a message of how people can overcome these life obstacles and lead a good life. Instead of the bad ones he saw as a child.
