XP mode was created by Microsoft to run the programs that will not run on 7. You can try backdating them and compatiblising them, but it's far easier to install XPMode

@firendable yup. in order to upgrade it basically reinstalls the operating system. the differences will be slight, but think of it as installing a brand new operating system that looks basically the same
