  • Almost all Taliban leaders, including Mullah Mohammad Omar, were trained in Pakistani madrasas.

  • Now I am convinced that a few Islamic seminaries brainwash students and teach them religious extremism, armed jihad and hatred against the government in Afghanistan and the West.

  • Some madrassas supplied recruits for the Taliban militia that took over Afghanistan in the mid-1990s and harboured Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda network.

  • Taliban is an Arabic word for `students’. It is well known that in the 1990s, when it was founded, many of their foot soldiers were radicalized in Islamic schools across the Afghan-Pakistan border – and they still are.

  • Two-decades of war has severely affected education in Afghanistan and going to school has become increasingly dangerous for students and teachers.

  • Arab nations and extremist groups fund a majority of Islamic seminaries.

  • all credits to pakistan, it has emerged as biggest terrorist country. Poor Afghans, they are suffering because of pakistan, as they made, support taliban against India. Now pakistanis are also getting killed everyday. Soon pakistan will be same as Afghan.

  • I do agree with the thinking that Madaris are producing some militants but what causes the parents to send their children to these seminaries?? Revenge, anger oppression!! Most public sector schools are giving education that is useless and costly, whereas, Madaris provide everything free of cost, and that is a blessing for the poor parents, who cannot afford quality education to their children. You need to notice that all these taliban footsoldiers come from downtrodden and oppressed classes.

  • As yet we don’t have the list of existing religious seminaries, but the truth is there are no checks and balances about the work they are doing.

  • Many “deeni madrassas” or religious seminaries exist, and the kind of education they are imparting to children is harmful. Are they giving the right education to children or do they have some other agenda?

  • Pakistan saw a spectacular rise in the number of madrasas in the 1980s when schools, backed by funding from Arab countries, became recruiting grounds for Islamic volunteers covertly funded by the West to fight Soviet forces in neighbouring Afghanistan.

  • Today, the Taliban has become a synonym for the insurgents.
